From a lifeguard: Never fight against a rip current always let it take you out, it won’t take you out too far. Once you are out of the rip swim at least 5 metres across then start heading back to shore always save your energy for waving for help. Rips don’t kill you, tiredness does.
So if there is a sweep, should you try to swim in the direction of it? You know how when you go in the water you end up way further across the beach over time. Would it be possible to swim horizontally, but against a sweep?
I have a question. Is there a difference between a rip current and a strong current? Why are some beaches just closed to the public like Reynisfjara because of the « currents » Isn’t it just rip current? What if some world pro open water swimming goes there and doesn’t fight against the current. Will it be a regular rip in cold waters? Or is it literally too strong of a current that’ll take you extremely far.
For those that don't know, you swim parallel to the shore to get out. If you are tired just relax, theres nothing wrong with floating out a bit and enjoying the view while you catch your breath
I’ve had to rescue people 3 times from rip current. 1st thing-Look at the surface of the water before entering. Rip currents are easy to spot typically. Looks for a calm area to enter the water. Rip currents look like a river running in a specific area. If you get caught in one stay calm. It will decrease in strength as it pulls you out. And you need your strength once it calms down. Swim sideways with the shoreline. When surfing, a rip currents is a great place to paddle out into the line up.
It can take you up to twenty miles out to sea. Best bet is always swim parallel to the beach out of the current or diagonally to the beach. Currents like that are usually only narrow. Not convinced this is a riptide they usually pull you down and out FAST
@@gringa978 In a river you swim diagonal with the current as the whole river can be the current. Riptides are a narrow channel of fast out bound water.
My friend did not know about rip current and drowned last week. If he just knew this, relax - save your energy. If you have lots of energy swim 90 degrees to the current. But most important stay calm, lower your pulse. Try to float... never try to fight the current...
Well, the best thing to do if you ever get get a tide just keep your body still you will find yourself at another part of the ocean land and then from there you can swim back
ive surfed and bodyboarded socal all my life, and rip currents arent this serious lol. swim parallel to the beach 30 feet and you're good. This is overly dramatic, helmet and all
Bro Been there Hope you had a flotation device Chill enjoy the escalator ride out , swim across then come in best you can either body surfing or back swim on t your back allowing the waves to bring you in one at a time until you’re all the way back in😊
When stuck in a current, don't ever swim against it. It'll make you tired so all you need to do it is swim to the side. Eventually it'll take you back to shore. You might be on the other side of the beach but you'll be back on shore, alive lmaoooooo
Hey, if you actually got hit on the corals, you must've had some scars left (it happened to me once). If they're not there, you are indeed in a parallel universe where you survived
@@BrentWeldonna u look cool u been there and u know what to do. u seem more worried about the waves crashing. Which u r a bit prepared for. Great videos 👍 And stay safe
@@BenAissa-vr1lu thanks man. Yeah I was fine. Just taking my time to get back to the inside where I like to shoot. No point in fighting the rip when it starts taking you to the outside like that
That ain’t no rip current. In a rip current is sucking so hard against the waves. You would see so much more cross chop on the surface. This guy is just splashing camera around. And making himself go under water. A rip current will not take you under water and if he is knowingly in a rip current he would be swimming parallel to the shore. Us surfers on big days stand on the beach looking for rip currents to help us paddle out faster and easier. We use them. And this guy having a wet suit on. Knows rip currents and what to do. And the biggest rip current I’ve seen was only 20 feet wide at most. So being in the middle of one. All you have to do is paddle over 10-11 feet and you’re literally out of it. This is fake trolling video
What are you do8ng filming a video go get help
Haha I had to wait for the Rio to slow down a little bit
You realize you can’t just go anywhere when you’re in a rip current, also rip currents aren’t dangerous at all unless you’re retarted

Super wrong!!! You’ll end up miles offshore…. ALWAYS SWIM PARALLEL TO THE BEACH then when your out of the rip, swim back in!!

it's awesome you were able to post comments while getting sucked out to sea. That's dedication right there.

Rip tides will typically not have breaking waves. They’re channels of deeper water. Something smells funny here.
Let the rip take you out then swim side ways and then swim in. Don’t fight the current, you’ll always lose. If the waves are big, wave for help.
His immediate reaction while he’s almost drowning and getting drawn into the sea is to film himself 😅😅
Glad your ok man. Crazy video
Swim parrallel to the shore. Never try to fight it. It pull you away, but moving perpindicular to the current, you can escape it and get to shore

Stay calm and swim along the coast line, like swim sideways instead of directly back to shore.

waves take you in... go to the waves
