  • Start to finish, from troubleshooting, replacing, setting the right gap and much more, I show you how to replace the points ignition inside your classic motorcycle distributor, using a Triumph TRW as an example.
    Chapters:
    0:00 - Intro
    1:07 - Troubleshooting - Big to Small
2:22 - Narrowed To Ignition System
    3:33 - Understanding The Issue
    4:30 - Fault Found
    5:35 - Analysing The Fault
7:20 - NOS vs Newly Manufactured Parts
    8:10 - Scavenging Parts
    8:50 - Assembling The Points
    11:25 - Installing The Assembly
    14:55 - Testing
The goal with troubleshooting is to understand what we are checking for in order to make sure we are tackling the cause of the problems, not the symptoms. Otherwise, we are left with spending money and time on parts that may not have needed replacing. I show you start to finish the "why" behind the process, to give you a full understanding of how the system works, what to check for, and how to make sure we are fixing the problem.
If you've got any questions, comments or advice, please feel free to leave it in the comment section below.
    Thanks for watching,
    Cheers!

Parts Used for the DKX2A Distributor on the TRW (Which as mentioned below is the same distributor for the Triumph 5T and 6T):
For the Distributor Points Set and Rotor Arm, I purchased my parts through Morrie's Place. The Contact Set is p/n 400415. The description is for a Triumph 5T/6T, but have no fear, they had the exact same DKX Distributor as the TRW. The rotor arm is p/n 400051.
Their store can be found here: morriesplacecycle.com/
The Condenser & baseplate came from the Distributor Doctor. A great company that helped me purchase the right parts the first time. Very high quality and they are superb at anything to do with distributors and ignition systems - not just for the TRW. The condenser is p/n 400308 and the baseplate is p/n 400001
Their shop can be found here: www.distributordoctor.com/
I pinned the comment, but I've also had a few people ask about the wicked hoodie I'm wearing. I got the hoodie from a shop in Australia called Caffeine & Gasoline Clothing Company - a rider who turns out some high quality clothing. You'd have seen a few of his items in my vids, because I just love the stuff. If you'd like that hoodie or similar items, please support a fellow rider who puts out some amazing quality clothing by checking out their page:

CP - thank you very much Sir! I really enjoy doing this, and the hope is always to help the DIY Beginner take hold of their projects and empower them to work on it on their own. Not just to save money, but time as well. Save time from having to muddle through, to spend that time enjoying their classic ride. I wish I had CZcams when I first started out.
None the less, thank you for taking the time to watch and for the comment. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the support. Cheers!

It's a lot of work, but I do enjoy it. I tried a few different things this time as it was the last time I was using the old camera and software, so I thought I'd have some fun with it.
I really appreciate the support and feedback. It's channels and creators like yourself who are helping to shape what I put out. Cheers!

I've been asked by a few viewers before I had a chance to post it - the hoodie that I'm wearing comes from a rider in Australia who runs a clothing shop called Caffeine & Gasoline Clothing Co. You would have seen a few of his items in previous videos. I love the clothing enough that I should have mentioned something sooner. But, the least I can do is post a link here:

Funny you should mention that. Coming up with my own pattern for a lighter linen hat which would be better for the garage! Soon!

Another great video, appropriate use of humour, i would say it's a pass.

Thank you very much! The humour is a balancing act ... too little and I'm as boring as a custom Harley. Too much and I come off as a Harley rider. I'm glad that I hit the right balance. Thanks for the comment and for watching, love the support!
