    Fibre wheel is for noise reduction. Alloy wheel is usually only used with a manual advance

      Interesting! Thanks! Hadn't considered vibration as a rationalization. Seems like an odd trade off - that level of reduced reliability vs vibration, but I suppose maybe the magneto is sensitive, though trying to manage any specific vibration of a 53 Triumph in that way seems a bit like a squirt gun in a forest fire, but certainly could be! I always figured the fibre wheel was sacrificial to protect the mag if it jammed lightly, but I suppose only the engineers that made the call would know. Thanks for the insight!

    Hi; a nylon sprocket is a very good solution as provided in my 40 000 km on the 48 500. Also I had the older auto advance the one with the brass balls. I think now I have this other, I really do not remember; many years without opening the cover. I have a Hunt magneto. Bike starts first kick. Also a new concentric have it.

      Awesome! Mind sharing where you found the nylon sprocket? I found aluminum and the original fiber but have not seen nylon.

    Nice video. I got a hold of metal gears with holes for the advance. I’m looking forward to replacing that stupid fiber gear.

      Good luck! I'd love to see how that was put together and what it's made out of! I kind of assume it would be aluminum to retain the fail-first design, but would love to see any detail.

      @@positiveground2995 you know I have to say it’s very interesting that so many people say the same thing. That the reason for the fiber gear is in case it fails. I wonder if that’s a common theory or fact? I don’t know. I’m always worried that I’m gonna be on the road in the middle of nowhere and it’s going to fail. I wish I could post some pictures on here of the gears that I bought. They’re perfect for riveting on advance units. They are made out of some alloy, but you may be right in the fact that it’s aluminum I’ll have to check.

      Ha, yeah its very comfortable, though the 650 kicks pretty smoothly anyway. No I didn't make it - I believe the prior owner did, but I'll ask next time I speak with him.
