still hits ya in the feelz after all these years... RIP IZ

In 1988, the late Israel Kamakawiwo'ole called sound studio at 3am because he had an idea, and if he could come record. IZ was so polite the studio owner said yes. Only 15 minutes later, they met at the studio, and in one take, he recorded this song. Just IZ and his ukelele!

The end is so bittersweet. Hawiians celebrating the life of one of their great artists. RIP IZ 🙏
🌺🌺🌺
I LOVE THIS VERSION, WITH A MODERN TWIST. MAY HE REST IN PEACE.
🌺🌺🌺
Makes me cry every time. Beautiful.😊😂❤ Reason's are my own.
🥰
I never get tired of hearing this rendition of the song. Thanks Aaliyah for this video. Making it even more poignant is the final scene in which his ashes are being spread over the water.
Thanks for watching too🌺
This is one of the most purely beautiful songs that i think ever managed to be produced. He was an amazing man, and an amazing artist, and he was taken from this world far too early
🌺🌺🌺
He really made the song his own. I love the way Judy Garland sang it, but IZ took it to another level. As always, great reaction.
Thanks again Mr. Julian
@@AaliyahCapili you're welcome.
When he passed all of Hawaii mourned. Best rendition of this song ever.
He is amazing
I grew up in the 80's rock era, and this is one of my altime favorites!! It is so beautiful!!
🥰🥰🥰
Bruddah IZ was so special.
🌺
Got to check out Eva Cassidy's version of the same song. A total 180 vibe
Thanks for sharing💕
Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole did a great job. For another great version that was made her own listen to Eva Cassidy's version of the song.
Thanks for sharing
Great reaction, & ur highly gifted...im an idiot, but ive been learning this on guitar the last few days & singing it too...man, its a tricky little version to sing, good lord...im solving the calculus of it slowly, but wow, those extra notes he throws in there are nuanced, & idk, judt tricky for some reason, just thrown in there at the perfect time & place, but damn🤯🤯🤯....anyway, again, great reaction as always:)
Thanks so much for sharing🥰🥰🥰
This was my wedding ouverture's song.😊
♥️♥️♥️
🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸My favorite also.
🥰
I agree with all of that. The song is so soft and gentle, yet not weak- it has a remarkably strong level of emotion for such a quiet tune. I give credit to him for that, may he Rest In Peace. It seems he knew just how much heart and feeling to put into his vocal delivery, to make the song so touching. That proves that he was a gifted singer. It’s a rendition that will always move the soul.
Thanks so much Mr. Matthew for sharing
I really love this song so glad more people are seeing it. 👏🌈
🥰🥰🥰
Keep the tissues close on this one - so amazing! BTW if you want exposure to some Hawaiian Folk with real Hawaiian words being sung check out our other pride and joy (among many) Gabby Pahinui song Hi'ilawe- He was my favorite local artist growing up. His song Moonlight Lady was popular and had Ry Cooder on that one which is in English.
Thanks for sharing🌺
My grandparents lived on Maui and they introduced me to this version- beautiful voice
🥰
You should definitely check out Ray Steven's version of this song. He changes it up, but the way he does it, is amazing.
Thanks for the recommendation
Do "Somewhere over the rainbow" by Eva Cassidy. Warning, have tissues knowing she sang this at a time she knew she had terminal cancer. Very emotional version
Thanks for the recommendation
I love it Aaliyah, ty for something other than metal! my first time hearing this version, it is awesome!
Glad you like it! Thank you for watching
Thanks, Aaliyah.. "the big man" -- IZ.. was amazing.. always loved and remembered.. it's a very emotional video.. at the end, you see all the people who loved him releasing him back to the sea... appreciate your reaction...
Thanks so much for sharing🥰
Amazing video. Hi Aaliyah. I've never seen this until now. I think I heard him sing this song at the end of a movie. 50 First Dates? Maybe. Looked like a celebration of his life at the end. Beautiful.
Thanks so much Dave for watching🌺
Ciao Aaliyah! Grazie per questi splendidi video, sei meravigliosa! Ti adoro 🥰💞
Thanks so much🥰
When he passed all of Hawaii mourned.

Hola. Muy feliz en saludarte. Muy lindo saber que estás bien.
Dios te bendiga y a todos tus seres queridos.
Thanks so much too
Thank you for this, I love your videos. But if I could suggest another version, listen to Ukulele Undergrounds version in memory of one of their members that passed on.
Thanks so much for your recommendation
React to “Like A Surgeon” by “Weird” Al Yankovic. His songs are the best and funny. He makes parodies. His music most likely revolves around the 80s.

Still waiting for iced earth " phantom of the opera"!

Hey sweets, you know in that video they were burying him in the ocean right?😊
🌺🌺🌺
I have a request! lol can you please react to The Darkness: I Believe in a Thing Called Love?
Thanks for your request🌺
This is an absolutely great version of this song, RIP Iz. But another beautiful version is the live version by Eva Cassidy. It's simply stunning; one of those performances that can make you tear up simply because it's so beautiful.
Thanks for sharing too
You haven’t heard Eva Cassidy sing this song if this you think this is the loveliest. I like this guy’s voice, don’t get me wrong, but I do not like versions where people just sing part of the lyrics. Drives me nuts. He can’t even sing a complete sentence.
🌺
Not my favourite take on that song tbh, still great.
Thanks🌺
Yes, if you listen to other hawaiian music like wow they are all good at their vowels
🥰🥰🥰
