As a 68 year old grandfather (that had the privilege to see Led Zeppelin 4 times in Seattle Washington) I love seeing the younger generation react to the "Hammer of the Gods".

Hey, 65 yrs old, and saw them in 73, 75 and 77 in Seattle. The second concert I ever went to was Led Zeppelin in 1973, at 14. (Having friends with older brothers is a great thing at that age!) Only recently stumbled onto the whole "reaction video" thing, and you're right; it's fun seeing young people discover what we experienced.
Likewise in my middle 60's but never had the privilege to see them live. But like every rockin kid in the 70's Zap was blaring constantly. Nice to see such a young girl listening to what is some of the most powerful music ever laid down by man.
Led zeppelin is the only band on the planet that had the greatest drummer to ever walk this earth. Best bassist, one of the most influential guitar player of our time. And one of the most iconic singers ever!!!

I had the pleasure of seeing Zep @ MSG in June 1977. They played this song and was just blown away. I have seen 100s of concerts since I saw Zep and it's still the best show I have ever seen. Most concerts that I have been to were amazing. But seeing Zep was a musical experience that words cannot properly express how good it was. There are so many Zep songs you can react to that are winners. The 2 songs I like to recommend is Going To California. There's an excellent live version on YT from 1975 ((Live at Earls Court) and the other is What Is and What Should Never Be . The live version from 1970 at The Robert Hall,.

I saw them the same year outdoors. July 77 in Oakland. Last North American Concert. Incredible
Me too. They played 6 shows in 7 days, sold all of them out. My seat was behind the stage and sucked, so I moved to the opposite end of the venue, absolute top level, and stood there for 2 hours. Ushers didn't care. Ear splitting volume. Stuffy ears until the next day. Probably damaged my hearing for life.
I also saw them in 1977 but Chicago in April. Then mid summer I was at a Bad Company concert and it was first announced new LZ dates added for later in year and ticket sales the next morning. We got in line after the concert and next morning purchased eight row center tickets! I was so stoked! But it was not to be as tragically Robert Plants son died which led to cancellation of remaking dates including mine. I have also seen hundreds of concerts but my one and only time seeing the great Led Zepplin I have so few memories. 😢

I highly recommend delving deep into Led Zeppelin, you can’t go wrong with any of their songs. I personally only have 2 that aren’t my favorites, & the majority of Led Zeppelin fans have very few also. Such a variety of genres, & always done with passion & perfection, they don’t just perform they feel the music.

“The first time I saw Led Zeppelin was in 1973. They came straight out and into Rock and Roll. ‘Bang, I hit you, right between the eyes!’
John Bonham was living up to his reputation as Rock's most powerful drummer, Jimmy Page was duck walking across the stage firing out these incendiary guitar lines, and Robert Plant, let's be honest, probably didn't require any amplification at all on that colossal voice. Stage left was John Paul Jones playing bass, slightly in the background almost like he didn't belong there. I started to focus, to zone in on his playing, and it dawned on me how huge his contribution was to this powerhouse of a band. At times he would be holding down the rhythm, seemingly locked into Bonham's snare and bass drums as well as mirroring perfectly Bonzo's drum fills. Then he would join Paige on those classic riffs, but there was variation.
At various times he would really attack those strings adding a percussive part to underpin Page's guitar. Then he would play these little improvised runs, but the genius here was he chose his notes, he kept it simple, clean, and he didn't interfere with what Page or Plant were doing as a more busy a bassist might have. Jones would also play just in front of the beat, pushing the music along or a hair's breath behind that beat. A bit like Keith Richards does for the Stones. Playing behind the beat gives the music swing and a kind of primal funkiness. As the concert progressed John Paul switched to keyboards eerie electric piano for ‘No quarter’ melotron, and organ for ‘Stairway to Heaven’, and a killer organ solo on ‘Thank you’, all the while playing tourist base pedals beneath those keyboards. I left the venue that night in awe of the man.”
Many experts say that John Paul Jones, as a musician, was the greatest genius of them all, and I don't mean just his bandmates. It appears to me, that the more of a musician you are, the more you appreciate his colossal talent and contribution to Rock and to music as a whole.
My friend, what are the chances of something like this to ever happen again?
Four absolute geniuses in the prime of their lives and energy, to meet each other, joining their colossal talents in an unparalleled bond and build, from scratch, a band like Led Zeppelin?
I cannot possibly put into words the amount of joy and sheer happiness these four gentlemen have brought into my life. How can one ever repay such a thing, is a question I often ask myself…
I have lived long enough to witness innumerous extremely talented musicians and bands, with impeccable technique and artistry, but Rock/Music delivered with heart and soul like Led Zeppelin I am yet to see.
As a fan, I feel grateful and blessed to have come across the “Led Zeppelin experience”.
To share it, I believe, is not only a duty but an obligation. Every human has the right to know Led Zeppelin, the Gods of Rock.

I had to laugh at "He obviously took very good care of his voice" if you watch the movie *The Song Remains the Same* which this song is part of, you see Robert smoking cigarettes and then going on stage singing (although that was normal back then)
@@d.l.607 If seen the movie many times. He's smoking a cig on stage at Royal Albert Hall right as the music begins. He was in his early twenties back then and of course you can do anything at that age. When did he quit smoking? Or did he?

Hi Aaliyah! This has to be one of the greatest blues performances ever recorded. The band are reading each other's minds throughout, creating an organic sound with little conversations between the various parts of the arrangement, which dips its feet into the jazz gene pool from time to time as well. The unsung hero here is bassist John Paul Jones playing keys on this song and playing the bass line on pedals. I loved your analysis of Robert's soaring vocal and look forward to another Zeppelin reaction from you in the future.

I love that even tho all the training you have had should make you wince at the purposeful flats and fry that pushes past the written notes into... A true acting moment of the hurt of betrayal... You can still feel him. Never lose that. Art is making something and having someone react and feel to it. Zeppelin at their best were 4 savants that swam through an ocean of technique talent to somehow land pure emotions. It's ridiculous how good they were.

By nature I'm not a huge blues fan as I tend to lean towards more prog music. BUT...Jimmy and Robert really know how to craft a good blues jam and this is one of my favorite songs Zep ever did and you can easily get immersed in it. This was Robert at his peak.

I know people always call them guitar solos, but I love the amount of driving force from the bass and drums fleshing it out. This track was edging towards the more polite 1980s, but yeah retaining some of that 'light and heavy' 1960s/70s rock vibe that bands like Iron Butterfly did so well.

If you want a taste of Robert's (and Zeppelin's) "Softer side," check out the gorgeous acoustic "Going to California" performance from 1975. And/or "That's the Way" from the same show. "Rock and Roll" from 1973 MSG is a fun and "harder" song. "The Ocean" from the same show is even better! Or mix the soft and hard with the iconic "Stairway to Heaven," also MSG 1973. CHeers!

I saw Led Zeppelin in 1969 and 1970. It was too early for this song but they were electrifying in person.

Yes indeed, you hit one of the best songs Led Zeppelin did and one of the best live versions they ever did. For what I consider another great version they did at the stand of shows at MSG in 1973, do the same song but from the Song Remains the Same concert movie. There is a reason why they picked that one for the movie, it is small, subtle differences in the performance, Jimmy Page is again a master, it sure would be worth seeing as is the entire concert movie. Every song is a banger and some of their very best live stuff. Nice reaction, more Zeppelin, please!!! Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

Led Zeppelin were huge fans of American blues music from the 50's and it shaped the band's early sound... "Since I've been loving you" was their take on the blues, amped up to 11... It was recorded for their 3rd album 'Led Zeppelin III' in 1970, which was a mostly acoustic record.
Zeppelin did not just want to be a 'heavy rock' band, so they also incorporated folk, country, rockabilly... as well as psychedelic and other influences into their music.
Now, the studio version of "Since I've been loving you" was somewhat different in arrangement... Led Zeppelin would often improvise their songs live in concerts (which were usually 3 hrs long) and play extended versions of songs... This could lead to mind-blowing performances like this one, or disastrous sonic shambles... depending on how high the band members were 😂 Thankfully, this one was a great performance, even though the 1973 Madison Square Garden shows filmed for the Led Zeppelin movie were not the best... It was the last show of a long tour and Led Zeppelin were exhausted and not in peak form those nights.

This song is an absolute blast to play on the guitar. Having a minor blues progression like that and being able to put little bits of modality into it is so much fun. Instead of going to the V chord, going Ab Gm7 Fm Eb Bb/Eb? Cm Bb, it's sort of chromatic but not quite but it is at the end Am Ab Cm. It's a very jazzy bit of blues. Page and Plant are so good at the conversation as well.

14:10 ... which is why Plant's voice was pretty much gone by '75. He basically thrashed it and had vocal chord surgery to remove polyps in late 1973-74 and he sounded a lot different on their album Presence in 1976 following his bad car wreck in Greece in '75 and singing in a wheelchair. Zeppelin was "kinda big" to put it mildly lol and I definitely remember them when growing up back in the good 'ol days... Nice channel.

The talent in this band is all-time top five in rock history for each member's respective roles...Plant as top three front men of all-time, Page is one of top three greatest guitarists of all-time (Hendrix/Gilmour other two), Bonham is the greatest drummer of all-time and JPJ is top five (I would say top three) instrumentalist of all-time (have to acknowledge that Who's John Entwistle is greatest bass player...it's close but have to acknowledge greatness) - I hope you will react to some additional Zeppelin tunes going forward...if you aren't familiar with it, and to avoid the copyright issues, check out "Dazed and Confused" from the band's debut album...you will not regret it. I see a lot of people in the comments saying the studio version is better and I beg to differ. Zeppelin was known for their live performances. The studio versions were just a reference. What they did live was phenomenal.

This was before his throat surgery and he was able to sing high notes with ease, the surgery though made it harder for him to hit those high notes after 1975 :(

I'm sure it's been suggested to you already , but you should check out Roberts work with Allison Krauss . It's is one of those vocal combinations where at first you think ?????? and then you hear them sing together and your reaction is 🙂. One of those combinations you don't think will work & then it does quite well in spectacular fashion .

That was interesting, both Led Zep and Janis. If I may draw your attention to two Australian singers/bands you may enjoy
First, Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs. Before ACDC was the Thorpie. Thorpie was hard rock (how hard...Makes ACDC sound soft). ACDC were and still are Rock and Roll. I draw them to your attention as Thorpes voice has been compared favourably with Robert Plants. Not similar, mind you, but better suited to the hard rock. the mad thing is that this is NOT roberts full voice! he had major problems with it at this time. 69-72 was roberts full INCREDIBLE voice. for me his strongest vocal ever live is rock and roll from sydney 72, its INSANE!
