    Hey Kruggsmash! Thanks for playing my mod! I've been a long time viewer.
    Egg-laying is a weirdly 'dark magic' part of the game. But it's not really that complicated. It's just a bit micro managy to get working properly. I tried to explain it in the mod's description. But in short, the best way I've found to get it to work is by unlisting ave eggs from all stockpiles, and them mass dumping all the ave's nest boxes every 3 or 4 months.
    Also, my apologies for not responding on Steam. At the time I couldn't believe one of my favorite youtubers was actually trying to contact me.

    Honestly i'm so inspired by all your videos, I've tried to create my own video! I've started playing and recording the content, and just asked myself "but... do i speak what's happening now? Do i write a script? That's alot of work... when do i start drawing? Should i draw all the first 7 dwarves and read their whole bio description?" Questions after questions!
    Also all the dwarves died to the undead, but there were some epic events along the line! Like the last dwarf alive was a Father with 2 Dwarf children who killed 5 Undead by himself where all other dwarves perished. And then just tried to survive, unable to rebuild or do anything productive as I wtched a couple years go by, hoping the oldest dwarven daughter becomes old enough to be able to work and fix up the base.
    If you have any tips, I'd love to hear your process and how you go about doing everything. Much love, Zonalar.

    I would imagine that Ave egg meals would be seen as peasant food. Afterall, it's what the poorest would most likely have to get by on. And there's probably a bit of a stigma attached to it, while other eggs are fine. Like humans and how we refuse to drink milk from humans. People are silly like that.
    But whatever way this culture develops, I am VERY interested! Really nice to see you do something different like this. Living in trees, shooting bows, taming animals, this could have become a dreadful elf fortress! But Aves are great! Because they're not elves.
    Wait did you say one-off? Dangit.

    Unrelated but I remember my favorite fortress to date. I found this massive cliff like 50+ levels high completely flat and built my military around crossbow wielders standing behind fortifications in the cliff. Farming was in the caverns. But everything for the most part was taking place at or above the departure z level. It fell in its 12th year to a dragon breathing fire through the fortifications at the marksdwarves and catching all the cave moss ablaze killing most but the few that survived starved because fire got to the caverns burning the farms.
    Losing is fun.

    About graphics for mods, there is an aschii mode in the game that you can use now. Even if we somehow need a graphics pack, modders can just choose to use letters anyway. In fact, they can always make the letters how they want. They could use other kinds of fonts to distinguish different tiles apart among other tricks that dont require being an artist. Plus, dedicated artists can also make graphics packs for the mods they love if they want to. I don't think any modders should be discouraged just because they still use letters. They will need letters anyway to be able to make mods work in classic.

    It's worth pointing out that Aves is pronounced ay-veez. It's the scientific name for Birds, or it was before birds were reclassified into Dinosauria.

    • @Cyberwar101
      @Cyberwar101 Před rokem +6

      You know, if it's Latin, then it is likely "ay-weez" since they used the v for a w sound. Considering this is partially modeled after Roman stuff in the lore, it would make a lot of sense.

    • @gearandalthefirst7027
      @gearandalthefirst7027 Před rokem +5

      I kind of like it as an Anglicization, it matches Elves and Dwarves too. They're not actually birds (as shown by them having hands AND wings) so using the latin doesn't really make sense.

    • @johanneswerner1140
      @johanneswerner1140 Před rokem +5

      More like "ah - vehs". Not "ay", and the "e" is more like the Canadian "eh?"....
      And despite being in saurischia it is still aves. What has changed is that non-avian dinosaurs are no longer a clade but a grade....
      (meh, who cares, at least commenting feeds the algorithm).

    • @appw_
      @appw_ Před rokem +1

      I've always said it the way Kruggsmash seems to have done. Ay-vs. But who's to say I'm right? I read the word on Wikipedia long before hearing it be pronounced correctly.
      But if you happen to be curious there's a deeper dive into it that reaches outside of DF lore. Bear with me here this gets a bit wacky though. So there's a civilization of aliens that I've been worldbuilding, and accredited for the creation of the Aven mythos. Like their cultural version of Dwarves. They would pronounce it Ah-vehs.

    • @malkomalkavian
      @malkomalkavian Před rokem +1

      @@appw_ I would have said it was a shortening of 'avians' so Ayvs as you say. Pronunciation is not an exact thing anyway. As long as people understand :)

    But watching this episode start off with some tree felling just immediately made me remember my first EVER dwarf fortress run I chopped down my first ever tree and it fell on my colony's starting cow and killed it immediately.

    Reminds me of one of my first fortresses, a fortress called AncientOil. Devastated the goblins, ravaged the forests, wiped to elves to extinction - fell to a bronze colossus that seemed to be carrying a slab and sword as weapons. All hail Etur the God of Death, mountains, and wealth.
