Its easy
Step 1: get to max wanted level. (4 swords)
Step 2: get chased
Step 3: let the level 60 Man o' War get close enough to swim over to in a reasonable time but not close enough to detect you
Step 4: leave the wheel
Step 5: swim over and kill the entire crew
Step 6: climb aboard the jackdaw, ram the Man o' War, and board it
Step 7: profit
Discovered this exploit in a recent playthrough. Pirate hunters will stop whenever you leave the wheel.
You can indeed attempt that with every ship

I remember the first time I played this. Still so new. I decided to travel to the top left corner of the map. Hopefully find cool loot on an island or something. Then this fucking thing shows up. Music gets all intense. Keep in mind everything I . had was still level one.

Theres a legendary ship in the northeast, i saw it bust escaped before the fight could start. I decided to head to Havanna, and when i was halfway there the intro played and then the legendary ship started fading out of the fog. TO BE CONTINUED ---->
Cool story bro, but legendary ship battled have to be triggered with a cutscene by going into its yellow circle on the minimap. It doesn't follow you if dont trigger, and if you do trigger the rest of the open world is shut down for the battle.

@@sublimewins2186 you simply jump off your ship when you are at fair range, swim over to the other ship and kill everyone .. very easy, not sure why people say crew spawn, in my experience none do, maybe you have to kill the captain first? not sure but thats normally what I do.

I used to use this trick all the time against man o' wars in general, before I got any upgrades. Sure, it's cheap, but it damn sure is a badass way to get the job done.
Yeah ... I've faced one when I was missing all the elite upgrades. In less than 30s I was desynced. 😅

@@titaiao I`m not sure what it`s like for other platforms, but for ps3, I market the legendary ships on map. To see the distances before the cutscenes happens, then I reset and do the same thing. Only this time I hold the button to get out of steering wheel, a couple of seconds before I hit that number. And then once the cutscene happens, I went to the highest part of the ship, then waited for the other ship to get closes, to jump onto it.
It takes a couple of attempts to pull it off, but I found climbing the legendary ship from the water, was not possible. And when I was on the ship most of it was not climbable or had invisible barriers. But killing with rang weapons gets the job done from above, then like this video you just return to your ship, and blow it up.
Don't you love it when your harpooning and the random guy at the end is like "yeah, alright!!" 😅😂😂

It's not even a glitch tbh. I'm pretty sure the game intended for you to be able to just climb aboard and kill everyone if you can. Always loved that.
i think it was intended then they last second changed it. cuz there is a place on top la dama that you can monkey bars basically its realy cool.
As much a I like that u can tace these situations in strange ways that lean more towards whatever style you have developed or strategy you have forged over time, I think it's really odd that you can just kill a few people and then fire a single canine shot. I would have liked the method developed further so that you actually kill every single person aboard the ship and capture it for increased rewards, or even to make ot your own ship

I still think that if the reward was higher when jumping on board and killing everyone on the ship nobody would fight the ships in any other way. Battling big ships is sometimes really hard, and jumping on board is mostly just about good luck when trying to board.
Not for the Legendary Ships. If you touch the hull in the water you instantly desynch.
They add it because if you kill all crue than who should swim the ship? And it is already broken because why to destroy ship wich not moving? You can have your trasure for even jumping on board because it have to be Perfect timing otherwise you will fell to sea and with normal sailing ships chaseing in it is impossible

I just succeeded with fully upgraded Jackdaw. This one wasn't really that hard, if you keep a moderate distance.

Jonathan Haraden was a pirate who used camouflage to disguise his ship, The General Pickering, to look like a slower merchant ship. He used painted canvas to hide the cannon ports. A British privateer gave chase to his ship as it suspected his vessel of piracy. Haraden allowed the privateer to get close enough to inspect him, and then the pirate gave the British a full broadside at point blank range. Haraden's men then boarded the privateer's vessel and took the sloop for their own.
I did it. Took a bit longer than i expected. At first I swam up to the ship and insta died. Then I inched the ship forward and let go of the wheel periodically to get the cutscene to play. Spent about 30 min missing jumps and realising you cant climb the legendary ships which was what resulted in a lot of the missed jumps. Finally I got a nice overlap and jumped about and was able to execute the takedown which pretty cool to do earlier than intended. Thanks for the guide

Looting is a complete waste of time unless you're looking for any ammo refills...
Just fight ships and sell all your rum and sugar, thats the best way at first... then finding treasures and kenways fleet can earn you some good coin

I used to do that all the time to legendary ships. It is so OP, but it works. As long as you don't join in naval combat, you can do this to any ship. In fact, I often sped up the process of overtaking entire strongholds because I just figured I could...so I did. :) Man O War ships were so easily brought down this way, that I only ever actually fought a handful during my main save.
OCT 2023- don't listen to no one who says this doesn't work, I have done it with both HMS Prince (2nd try) & El Impoluto (1st try) - Dont try and climb the sides of the legendary ship and dont leave any man alive

Ghost Ship is a term that sailor use to indicate a Legendary Ship on sailings.. probably the one they havent seen in a while

haha yup I did this more than 20 times, and got it down like 3 or 4. Its fun to do over and over, but if you heard this commentary I was going o shit I am about die", as I climbed the tower. It doesnt have the instant rise to the top, the way it usually does. Legenadiers dont have that I guess.

I can't wait to try it because this legendary ship is super fast. Somehow I managed to destroy them two legendary ships that have a white sail and black sail. I died nine times against them. Came back as a ghost the tenth time and got my revenge. It was epic!

Yes and the enemy are so over awed by him instead of killing him whilst his back is turned fighting they wait in a gentlemanly manner until he kills the one he's fighting and turns around to face them. How convenient. Then he runs away to reload ALL his muzzle loading pistols (only takes a few seconds) whilst they wait patiently at the other end of the ship for him to come back and shoot them.

Hi from 2020. It's still didn't work for me. When the ship is near, i try to jump for board the ship. But Edward did the f*cking water leap of faith.
Try only pressing the button you run with, it'll automatically, jump into the ship

"Strategy" might be overstating it. More like taking advantage of an oversight on the game designer's part and playing in a way they did not intend, which is basically a nice way of saying exploiting a glitch.
@@177SCmaro Yes, and no IMO. You have to have strategies against these ships. Even if you have a full-on elite ship, you can't fight them like a MoW. There's one you gotta use fire barrels, and another you gotta get in close with heavy shot, and so on. This is as good a strategy as any. I like going south on a new play-through and parking my ship blocking narrow channels. I can sneak onto ships that way and get huge supplies without having to fight them. IMO, that's strategic.
This glitch works on nintendo switch lmao this just shows how much effort Ubisoft puts into ports

Worked for me on xbox one fully updated and all, as of 5/31/2019. I had to angle the bow of the jackdaw directly at the bow of the prince, however (maybe just me, idk but it worked).

So for it to fire at you do you have to be steering the ship normally or do you have to fire the first shot for it to engage a fight
after 1 hour of waiting for the ship to line up so you can jump on it yes it works
but you can't climb the ship so it sucks
i hate the jackdaw to small we should at least be able to build or keep any ship

Still works in 2020 Xbox One. Catches tho. Mark ship on map, Slow down around 600m, release helm around 580-575m. Cutscene starts around 561m. Catch is the ship might glitch out and start circling you lol. Couple of tries youll get it eventually.

@@daniel-alexandruiordache9535 thats why i said a couple tries. Sometimes the ship sways far right but eventually youll get that one shot. If you miss it just reload checkpoint itll put you right there

I love that they never patched this, this game really shows it’s age when you board ships and your crew gets in the way of your combos and gets you hit and it’s just so weird lol. Still having so much fun with black flag though! It is so unreal how beautiful and full of content it is for being so old.
