    🤔Ummm. Yeah. I forgot to add a major tip...start conditioning your thighs for low kicks. Kind of important.

      Yep! On that note, I’ve recruited my kids, both of whom have good round kicks, to help with my low leg conditioning. Family time now consists of kicking dad’s quads for about 10 minutes a day.

      When I started kickboxing a few years ago I always had awesome bruises on my legs to show people how cool I was. But now that my legs are more conditioned they barely bruise anymore!

      @@Markperna1 hey Gabriel, is it true you're doing a camp this year out in the Pacific Northwest? I thought my coach said you'd be out here in WA state to visit and help teach a weekend camp. Just was wo dering if that was true. Also, I saw your piano short! Way to shred bro! I'm a drummer and thought you sounded good!

    Many people tell me not to throw naked kicks. I understand what they are getting at, but it was good to hear you say that sometimes you can throw various kicks in order to open up with the hands more. Eventually, a 1-2-3-low kick will become incredibly predictable, so it's important to be able to do it all.

    Hey Gabriel! A follow up episode would be great! You covered a lot of points I could relate to.
    I just transitioned from boxing to Muay Thai and, when starting out, I had a lot of difficulty.
    I kept being told to stand up straighter and less hunched, for example: sitting down on my punches less.
    Another thing I noticed was that, in boxing, I would use my footwork to hop out of range. However, I would be out of punching range but I quickly realized that I was still in kicking range.
    Great content as always. Thanks!

      if kicks kills your boxing rhythm then focus more on boxing and elbow combos use knee and sometimes setup for low kick , i had the problem but i fixed through that i don’t use kick much mostly punch knee elbow

    Hey Gabriel, love the videos man. I wanted to ask you about how to figure out and my striking style. I have been training for 2 years now and I tried a few different styles from a bladed blitzing karate syle to a plodding Muay Thai style, but I can't really put stuff together and make my own style. I constantly switch between being one style of fighter to another. Could you provide some guidance on this?

    I started kickboxing/muay thai this year, and the head movement thing is real. One guy slipped way too low into a knee and broke his nose. Wasn't even the kicker's fault, he was going for a standard roundhouse to the body, but the other guy just ran his face into a knee.

    Most boxers don't have a bladed stance at all. That's more an amateur style or one that older slower boxers pick up in order to preserve energy and take advantage of years of experience
    Mexican style fighters, peek a boo style, and many power punchers or pressure fighters stand more square
    Karate teaches the bladed wide legged stance yet they don't get kicked in the legs all the time

    Extremely useful. Two questions to follow-up:
    1/ Should we keep the chin down in muay thai like we do in boxing? I've been noticing that muay thai fighters keep their chin a bit higher to be able to better see and anticipate whatever's coming up (notably kicks, which is hardly traceable when you keep your chin down I guess)
    2/ Where do you look? In boxing I tend to keep my eyes on my oppenent's upper chest area... It seems it's not that effective in muay thai, because it impedes you from anticipating the kicks.
    Thanks for you insights

    • @FernandoDelgado-ez3dk
      @FernandoDelgado-ez3dk Před 9 měsíci +1

      Muay Thai beginner here so take this with a grain of salt. Chin is still down but because of the stance it won’t be as exaggerated as boxing. You can look at the upper chest area still but use your peripheral vision to watch the hips for kicks. Or vice versa, I feel like there’s a trade off so you have to see what you value looking at more at that moment. Just my two cents tho I just started 3 months ago 🤷.

    Good morning Gabriel, I had a little doubt, I'm a professional boxer and I've been doing kickboxing for a year since I want to go do mma since I also have great experience in grappling and I have a problem, I can't get used to leading the leg facing forward so that Do not break my leg with lowkicks, any tips to be able to use the lead leg as in boxing at 45 degrees and be able to successfully defend lowkicks? I already defend in case I'm not afraid I use the fotwork and if I read that they are coming lowkick I enter with a cross or a takedown, but what scares me is throwing the jab at the same time that I enter in case I get caught with a lowkick, thank you very much seriously I'm learning a lot about kickboxing, I thought it was just boxing with kicks and it's not like that, so have a great champ day :)

    @chucknorris202 Před rokem

    I started out in Jiu jitsu, did a couple years of that, but I got my start in striking in Muay Thai.
    That said I think I'll try starting many of my punching combinations with kicks - esp lead leg roundhouses, or anything besides push kicks. I usually end my combos with leg or body kicks I never considered closing the distance with a kick before; I'll have to practice that before I use it in sparring. But it sounds like it could be very useful esp against guys that do a little too much head movement.
    My coach says I stand too square but - I have ran into so many of the problems you mentioned when I try to use my more bladed stance. Plus its just more fatiguing for me. I'm not used to that wide bladed stance, not even the version of it that's modified for muay thai/kickboxing, where the lead leg is loose enough that you can easily lift it for kick checking. So my style is more vulnerable to body shots I suppose since my defense is focused on my head and legs and what body shots I am able to stop(not all). Cardio is my worst enemy at present...I gotta keep working on building it back up to what it was pre-COVID. Doesn't matter how good you fight if you're too tired to actually move and throw and even defend like you are able to when you're not to the point of exhaustion...though defense is the last thing to go even when tired(cause its natural to go all out when defending, so you dont get hit esp in the head or face).
