  • So I was working on a 2002 dodge Durango with a 4.7 in it, And since I know the 4.7 and the 3.7 and all of the jeep/Dodge timing is identical, with very small differences like the reluctor ring on the V-8 and the V6 are different but the timing tensioner‘s , chains guides are are identical!!!! (some of them also have a balance shaft on the center gear in the later models) I discovered something that I found very very interesting, The old timing does NOT have weep holes on the TIP of the timing chain tensioner’s .
In the later years the timing chain Tensioner’s on the right and the left are big problems, (they fail often) but the older style don’t !!!! (at least that’s been my experience)
That’s crazy to think because you would think that having the weep holes in them would make them better …….Well it certainly does Not . it actually takes away from the oil pressure causing cam problems It also makes them move on the tensioner chain guide causing more friction and more wear Overtime so if you can find the old tensioners do not have the holes in the end of them they are actually better and this video shows you why. I thought you might find it interesting I hope you do because I certainly did.
We would very much appreciate if you would watch the whole video .(sometimes I’m fun) So you can inform yourself with all the great information that I put in my videos and God bless. I hope the videos helpful for you!

  • @karlgreen2475

The biggest problem is you go order a 16 timing chain and they give you a 32 timing chain kit and you install it and it won’t start and then your problem starts all over

  • @claudio_sergiacomo

Great tips about the tenssioners... I would like to ask you what do you think about the left tenssioner not installing the back restriction plate that has a little hole? I know it will make the tenssionar work with lots more of oil preassure but maybe would affect the overal oil preassure in the engine if I don't install that back plate?

Hey Clay we have been watching your videos. Having said that we did a head gasket and timing chain set. All went great first fire was perfect. We did have the head resurfaced I don't know how much the machine took off? The jeep ran perfect , for about 7 minuets then a back fire and a no start and no vaccume. We pulled the chain cover and checked the sprocket position and chain tension. All was perfect we pulled the right head to find all the intake valves bent. My question is can you resurface 3.7 heads? And if you do do you need to get thicker head gaskets? The other question is are there different chain sets or are they all the same and we just milled the head to much? Any help would be great

Small question I've got a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.7 l all wheel drive it's got 231,000 mi on it and it is stuck at a gas station here in town but I want to start up and it was shuttering and shaking real bad at very low RPM and it sounded like someone threw a couple rocks and a pop can and then it wouldn't start up I'm pretty sure it's the timing I've done timing jobs before but not when there's three timing chains and the kit that this 3.7 l cost for just wondering if you think I'm correct and it is the timing I washed your video and you said they have a problem with the tensioner arms can you help me out

Hi Clay! Any luck with some info on how to stop Jeep Liberty from auto locking the doors? I deliver food to old folks and can't tell you how many times I've had to walk back up and unlock the doors to get at stuff in the back. I leave the car running as I have the food warming thing plugged in all the time. I try and take a extra key fob along, I just sometimes forget and then it's back and forth time! Happy 4th to you and yours!! Thanks for the educational as well as entertaining videos from Traverse City. (Good grief, just heard Biden was going to be here on the 4th weekend! Just what we need for traffic!!)

  • @JohnODonovan1

Hi Clay, could you tell me how am I to keep the opposing camshaft from turning when I'm torquing down the bolt on the other camshaft. It's hard enough keeping one from turning even with using a vice grips on the shaft. Also even if I had the proper tool with pins for the left sprocket, the right sprocket that came with the cloyes chainset does not have any holes unlike the left one which has three holes or maybe two holes I can't remember. Anyhow everything else is done except for torquing these two bolts down to 90 ft lb and it's taking longer to do this then it has been to do the entire process up to now. I've gone to O'Reilly's and AutoZone and neither of them has a tool that does this. Do you have any advice for me, I'd appreciate it.
