I kicked 60-62 punts many times when the field was long---- on the fly. I was pulled out of practice after kicking it over the head of our return man--- an eventual NFL punt return Hall of Famer.
Our coach replaced an 18-tear head coach--- and this fool recruited abpunter. Needing to NOT look like a fool for having a full scholarship punter on the bench, he replaced a porential All-American punter--- who was also a potential All-American Safety.
Oh! The bad decisions of a new head coach promoting his new team, and ignoring the real talent in his seniors. 😎

Rutgers’ Adam Korsak should have won the Ray Guy that year. Adam had better statistics in EVERY major category that goes into making that decision.
The Ray Guy Award voting panel was apparently seduced by the long ball.
Rutgers standout Adam Korsak was denied school history Thursday night when San Diego State’s Matt Araiza won the honor, given annually to the nation’s top punter, during ESPN’s college football awards show.
Korsak was bidding to become the first Scarlet Knight in program history to win a major national on-field individual award. But Araiza, who has become a viral sensation due to his booming kicks and “Punt God” nickname, got the nod over Korsak and fellow finalist Jordan Stout of Penn State.
And to be frank, Korsak and Rutgers have several reasons to believe the Australian star got hosed.
According to criteria outlined by the Augusta Sports Council, which created and manages the award named for the late Guy, a College Football and Pro Football Hall of Famer, “particular emphasis is placed on the following statistics: net average, percentage of total punts inside the 20-yard line and percentage of punts not returned.”
Korsak’s 45.34 net average this season currently stands as a new NCAA single-season team record, and he had superior percentages of kicks downed inside the 20 and kicks returned compared to Araiza and Stout. Korsak also went the entire year without a touchback (and hasn’t had one since 2019) while Araiza had 14 touchbacks in the regular season and had a punt to be returned for a touchdown after out-kicking his coverage.
But in the end, Araiza’s booming kicks and 51.4 average per kick -- on pace to be a new NCAA record -- overpowered the criteria.
Korsak, who already owns all the Rutgers career punting records, will return for his final year of eligibility in 2022.
Korsak ended up winning in the 2022 season BUT should have definitely won it in 2021. Nothing again Matt personally and just a total hose job for Adam by the committee when looking at what was supposed to matter in 2021.

Minus -9 yard line? The ball would be one yard from the back of the end zone, and the punter would be punting from out of bounds. I would gladly make a bet with my life savings that has never happened.

I was a punter throughout high school and no one was able to tell me why the rule was set like it is. My kicking coach, who ended up coaching 5 teams in the NFL with two Super Bowl rings, had no idea why. The only thing I could figure out was the field goal has a set spot the kicker has to kick at. A punter moves from any given point after the snap and there is no set point to mark. Therefore, the set line of scrimmage is the point of reference. Guess it made it easier for the statisticians back in the day to spot the point where to start the yardage.

    64.7 - Nick Setta (2008)
