Hey there, I'm the creator of this map. I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to check it out and I'm glad you enjoyed it! It took me well over a year to complete, and I'm happy it's finally getting some attention. As for the random invisible models, I'm not sure what causes that as it doesn't happen on my end. Maybe someone else with more Gmod experience can chime in and help? Anyways, thanks again for checking it out!

Fantastic mapping, very consistent atmosphere with lots of storytelling by how objects are placed. The only thing I would mention that keeps me wondering is why all the car lights are on. In a situation like this I would expect maybe 1-2 as the most recent ones. But after hours or days most car lights would be off and batteries dead.

    • @kylesanford5514
      @kylesanford5514 Před 2 lety +19

@@aurigo_tech Thank you for the nice comment! Regarding the lights, I know but its not very realistic for them to be on. The main reason I chose to have them on was to light up more areas in the map, as well as keeping with the Left 4 Dead theme, seeing as how lots of vehicles in the game also have their lights on still. Makes it more eerie, as well as more atmospheric (at least in my opinion!)

14:55 I can imagine admins and moderators setting up spawners in the corn fields and the forest to spawn zombies slowly over time. That way players can roleplay and potentially organically respond to something like a large swarm of zombies that wandered over to where they are situated.

Honestly, all of the maps that i see in Garry's mod with Left 4 Dead 2 assets sometimes gives me fun memories when i played it since 2020, what always comes to my mind is a very good zombie survival game. Idk why but L4D2 maps can be Eerie at some point because the music and the surrounding indicates the outbreak and the glimpse of the previous event that happened here. That is why the game music is more Eerie than listening to Myuu's soundtracks

I’ve mentioned this in a previous video, but I really appreciate this aspect of “E-tourism” these videos provide. This ability to see things that couldn’t exist or would be very hard to replicate in real life.
If you ever feel like you are running out of map ideas, I am completely content with exploring maps that are purely visual eye-candy or for ‘vibes’, whether it’s ‘neon ethereal spaces with cool ambience’, or ‘city with colorful, glowy geometry’.

train nerd here to answer all of your train needs
#1 seeing as the L4D locomotive is based of a EMD GP38-2 (a american design) its safe to say that this is in america, which is the basically one of,if not,the worst place in the world for electric trains. Most trains (passenger and freight) in america are diesel electric, which means that they are giant generators that take fuel and turn it into electricity for their traction motors to move their wheels,And passenger locomotives have something called HEP (Head End Power) which is a separate generator used to power light and electrics in the passenger cars, solely diesel powered trains are a thing of the past because they cause lots of pollution. And they arnt used on only long distance hauls, they are used on most stuff, shortline railroads in cities, commuter lines, freight across nation, local freight, switching, long distance travel, etc etc
#2 i dont know much about fueling but as far as i know, trains dont stop at tanks next to the tracks to fuel up like gas station, trains get fueled up at the train yard where it came from, and if it runs out of fuel it is ether A)refueled in a train yard or B) swapped out for a different locomotive
#3 i can say for a fact that i may be wrong on this, but i dont think trains would stop at any railroad crossing to pick up people, why? because trains, specifically freight trains like the one shown here, take a long time to stop because freight trains that are in basically anywhere except Europe are massive,im talking that on average, they are more then a mile long, and stopping and moving all of that takes a long time when you have steel wheels on steel rails,so for the freight train shown here,no i dont think they would stop and go at level crossings because to stop at the crossing, they may need to go slow, which gives infected zombies a chance to get on board,if it was a passenger train,it may be more vulnerable because unlike freight cars which have no windows, and sometimes no upper structure on top, passenger trains have doors(can vary depending on the time the car came from), and windows that could be broken, maybe if they were reinforced but then again,as seen with the person shot outside the farm at the start, would the military really allow that in this particular map?
#4 also that propane tank thingy is unnervingly close to the tracks, with the exceptions of stations, loading platforms, and tunnels, everything has to be set a certain distance away from the train tracks so they wont get hit, even other infrastructure like signals and track switch levers has to be farther away

One of my favorite activities back when I played Garry's Mod was to load up the zs_obj versions of these zombie survival maps with all the scripts, paired with the mod that dynamically spawns enemies everywhere converging in on me and with cover from a few other NPC followers with slow firing guns try to complete all the map objectives with as many of them surviving as possible. My favorite of them to explore was Vertigo where you steadily make your way up a damaged skyscraper to the helipad on the roof.

I had lost my dad and it was a rancid time of life, but the tracks gave me a lot of peace. That and me and some friends would explore the drainage tunnels and abandoned down town areas. We never broke into any of the boarded up, now upscale remodeled restaurants and stores l, though.

ZPS teached me that if you have asthma, Zombies will also have even more severe asthma.
ZM teached me that doesn`t matter the size, never corner yourself in tight spaces.
GMOD ZS teached me that proper barricading and coordination are a need for continued survival, even under extreme if not unfair odds. Perseverance!
CSS/CSGO Zombie Escape teached me that you only need 5% of your brain working at all times, the rest is focused on delivering the biggest tsunami of bullets as inhumanly possible.
As far as how it go in ZS... A majority of people would cade in one place, another in another... maybe unlucky ones on a third one... The moment on of the 2 cades seem too weak and a wave ends, there is likely to be a massive exodus seeking the better cade. That is how games go, interval of waves people burst out to kill straggler zombies and bring a bunch more props to cade with.
By the last wave if people make it, it's everyone buying Suicide Packs in case we DO lose. Sometimes a good Samaritan may buy 50 Explosive Belts for everyone.

I've always wanted to see zombie survival maps repurposed for sandbox. Some of them are great to explore but with the ever-present threat of dieing, its really difficult to check out all the little details in maps. Some of my favorite maps as well though have been server specific variants of maps, like they put in the abbreviation of their servers into the map names.

I frequently play on Zombie Survival servers in gmod and you pretty much nailed the way most games go. On the first few waves most people are outside keeping zombies away and farming points while other people build barricades from props scattered around the map. It is possible to have multiple barricaded spots (and it might be required to win on certain maps - depends on the map and server balance). Barricades can be repaired but don't last forever either, so humans keep losing territory as the game goes on. When there is a break between waves humans have to push out and kill any remaining zombies and cover the people rebuilding barricades.

I open GMOD and at face value, seems like it's just a playground to do stupid stuff with basic drop in assets. I see this and wonder where the heck all those assets came from? High quality textures, trees, buildings. Had to be a lot of work to track all that down and get it to work in GMOD vs. just using the well established Unreal assets that are literally endless!

Hey, I'm a huge fan of your videos. It seems like when i play gmod though it doesn't look as clean and full of depth color wise. Is there any advice you could give for that?

Another zombie game that is a reality check is No More Room In Hell. I constantly see comments in zombie media, how stupid the survivors are, the stupid decisions they make and etc. and then you got this game where they waste all of their ammo on the first round, and even dying on the first round. I'm there killing like 50 zombies with the machete, and these guys waste their ammo and still somehow die by the zombies, yes there are fast zombies here and there, but the game simulates really well that we wont survive long, even if the military is helping us.

Honestly I've become so numb to concept of Zombies since the trope has been so saturated in media to the point that it's not really an interesting avenue of horror for me anymore.

I’ve been loving the expansion of the zombie trope.
Like the fungus based ones from last of us,
Or the ones that can still communicate and talk from a variety of media. (Best example would be iZombie and the Korean show All Of Us Are Dead)
Lots of interesting ways it can go and not all are horror

@@ItsJustDoctor Those are the exceptions, imo. Most pieces of zombie media fall into the "standard" format, which I feel the same thing about as Deppo. There's a lot of potential to make weird and interesting zombie variants, but that potential isn't tapped into as often as I'd want it to.
