Before traveling to the US Virgins Islands, I researched DIY Fly Fishing for various island locations. I found very little on the subject but did gather some tips, advice, and general information after extensive research. I’ll use this video to share what I have learned in hopes it will help someone else. Thanks for watching, sharing and subscribing!

I've fly fished those same flats. Waded for about 90 mins before the bones finally came up onto the flats. They we super spooked. I didn't catch any. I will be back there in August for another go at them. Thanks for the video.

Phil, I fished this same area a month before you Early OCT, I found better shore fishing in ST Thomas, if you get back check out Mandal Bay. We stayed at Sapphire and I was able to fish just about every morning, best luck was shore outside the marina. There are also flats near Lindquist Beach. I am not much of a fly fisherman (spin guy) but did have the must luck fishing flies behind a floating plug, I removed the hooks and added a leader with a fly. I adjusted leader to the depth of the water, 7 species of fish where catch this way, I hope to be back this Oct again and plan on spending more time on the flats.

Thanks for the great tips, Scott!!! My wife and I stayed at Sapphire as well. It was our 25th wedding anniversary. (so I didn't get a lot of fishing in). If we ever go back, I'll definitely take your advice.
BTW.... your comment was in my 'likely spam' folder.... just thought you might want to know.
Anyway.... thanks again for the tips, my friend!

Are you allowed to fish the marina? Stayed at sapphire before and saw a ton of big tarpon at night there when we were walking around

Looks like things are looking WAY up for the Crockett household! When you can't go to the river just ngo to where you don't need one! You need to get up with my son who finally got to Bozeman. He had 3 or 4 tournament boxes FULL by the time he was 12 and there's NO telling what he has now. Tying his own flies and has been fly fishing forever as long as I can tell. He went about a month ago and was getting his stuff out of the back of his Jeep and saw a cougar watching nhim from some rocks across the road. No, I need to stay right where I am. So hope you had a NICE time and have a Jesus week! Thanks, Buddy and GBWYall!

Yes sir, Lewie! 25th wedding anniversary trip! It was a bonus that I got to slip in some quick fly fishing. Been tying saltwater flies for the past couple of months to prepare. I just realized that I don't have any fly tying videos on my channel... I might have to make a few in the future.
You have a son in Bozeman? We flew in to Bozeman on our honeymoon 25 years ago. Drove to Yellowstone. Beautiful place!
Always good to hear from you, Lewie! Send the family my love, and have your son check out my channel. GBWU2!

@@PhilCrockett HAPPY ANNIVERSARY and sure am glad it's not Adversary or Adversity! They got up there this spring from Billings. He's trying to wear the country out if I know him at all. They sent me pictures of Yellowstone and all over. Sure is nice but I better stay here. I'd never survive the 100 degree temperature spread. So THANKS, stay warm and dry and remain calm! (Us'ns)

HAHAHA! I should have kept it. Remember the 'rule of thumb' at the trout parks?... If it's bigger than your thumb, you keep it!
