    I just got the exact same bike last weekend. I'm 5'7 with a 29 inseam and I'm really glad I got the small. If anything I'm a tad stretched out as well but I can fit it perfect with some tweaks. Also just took it for a good ride on mixed terrain and it ate up everything in its path. I hummed and hawed over the 27.5, but I know I'll be doing more commuting than bike packing and this thing is super quick. Great video, thanks for posting!

      yes, the frame sizing is key - everything else can be adjusted. i checked craigslist around me, and i already see people selling 27.5 wheelsets for $100-200. since it's quick release, it's not going to be expensive to have an extra wheelset around, if desired. i wish i had purchased the small. hard purchasing bikes during quarantine...

    I am post acquisition review checker. Nice job. I am also 5'9" (gravity works by your 6th decade) with a 30 1/2" inseam. Also longer reach or ape index. I have the Surly Bridge Club but in the 27.5 and Schram Eagle SX 1x12 that they added in April. yes Grandma's Lipstick. This is May 2020, and I took what I could get, and for me with 200 miles now, it has been solid. Right after I bought mine through my local small shop, Surly cut them off for awhile. I live in a small Wyoming city with a more county gravel and public land two track. So a thirty mile ride from my city doorstep can be 30% tarmac, 50 % gravel graded road, and nearly 20% fair weather or rutted public access tracks.

      that sounds like a nice place to live and a nice bike to ride through that nice place. i wish they still made that blue color they discontinued this year. that color along with the black bits (seat post, stem, bar) in 27.5 would have been my top choice. i do prefer the shimano over the sram. i had nx on my last bike, and it was very meh.

    I'm 5'8", 30" inseam. I got the medium frame because that was all that was available to me. Could have gotten the small in the 27.5 version. Who knows if it was a mistake. My bike is fun to ride but looks gigantic. I have the handlebars up high for an upright riding position. It's all good but I want to put my baby on the bike in a baby seat and I feel so high off the ground! Maybe when there is better availability I'll trade it out

    I'm 5'7' (or maybe 5'8"), 30" inseam. Just got the 700c in size Med. Stand over is OK, I have about an inch of space. It's fun to ride, feels like a beach cruiser that is lightweight and easy to climb hills. I have the handlebars up super high. But, every time a friend sees it, they say, "wow that's a big bike". I want to put my one year old on the back or maybe the front, i'm a little nervous because it's so high up. I'm wondering if the 27.5 or size small would have been better. It would be kind of expensive to put smaller wheels on this bike. Maybe I'll just do what you did and sell it and look for a small. How did that go? Did you lose money when you sold it? Did you find a small? I actually rode a small 27.5 and was really torn between the two. The smaller one felt like a fun bike, but seemed like the big wheels would feel draggy up hills on pavement and that on longer rides, it might not be as comfortable. I mostly want it as a commuter bike for me and my baby. Any suggestions?

      i personally don't like drop bar bikes for any rough/off road riding or commuting, as i don't feel in command of the brakes. i also prefer steel to aluminum. they do have the flat bar version - is that the one you were thinking of?

    Thanks for the video! I'm looking at purchasing this exact bike. I'm also 5'9". I have like a 29.5" inseam. Can you tell me your inseam? I fear a small would cause me to sit to aggressive and I want to be upright. You going to swap out the handlebar? I was thinking of getting a Jones H bar.

    • @omgbikes
      @omgbikes  Před 4 lety

      Thanks for watching! My inseam is 29.5, so same as yours. Small would be less aggressive, as the effective top tube length is shorter. Keeping the bar for now as I’m just using the bike to chase my daughter around. Will get to more aggressive riding later.

  • @charlessanchez3148
    @charlessanchez3148 Před 4 lety

    This was an informative video. It also influenced my future frame selection on any Surly bike. The standover heights are higher than other bikes of the same frame size. The reason I am commenting is because I noticed that your seat is very high which did not allow your legs to have the proper 25 degree angle at the 6 o'clock position. This may be part of the reason your bike fits big; consider getting a shorter stem. Have you made any changes since the video to help make the bike fit smalle?

    • @omgbikes
      @omgbikes  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks! Yes - I sold the bike. Waiting for small size to become available to purchase! Seat and cockpit are adjustable - stand over height is not and I should have remembered my experience with the disc trucker before ordering the bridge club.

    • @charlessanchez3148
      @charlessanchez3148 Před 4 lety

      @@omgbikes Good! I hope you make another video assembling the smaller framed Bridge Clud. It will go along smoother and quicker--I imagine. I am considering buying one or buying a Surly Troll. I am 5'7" and my inseam in bare feet is 30 1/4 inches. I hate buying too small, but it's better than buying too big, I quess. Good luck, I am anxiously waiting for the new video.

    • @omgbikes
      @omgbikes  Před 4 lety

      @@charlessanchez3148 that's one of the downsides of buying a brand like surly - very hard to get one to test ride, so you're buying blind in a lot of cases - especially now. bike rode great though, and i enjoyed the little trip around my neighborhood. a lot of people don't really care about stand-over as long as reach is right, but my personal preference is to get the stand-over right and tweak reach, seat, etc. via the replaceable bits.

    • @charlessanchez3148
      @charlessanchez3148 Před 4 lety

      @@omgbikes I agree: the standover height is more important, at least, to me. I would use the seat, the stem, and the order of the spacers on the headset for the adjustables. The reason I am responding is because you can get a frameset and build the Bridge Club with the adjustments in mind but still go with the "small" frame. It will probably be more expensive. You have the experience since you built your Long Haul Disc Trucker. And you can make a video of the Bridge Club build. Just a thought. Good luck.

    • @omgbikes
      @omgbikes  Před 4 lety

      @@charlessanchez3148 yes, i always think frame first and build up, but you're exactly right - it will cost more in the end. i have a family member that builds wheels, so i need to check with him how much a wheelset would cost - after the frame, that's typically the most expensive part of a build (that and the groupset) - after that it's either the bits you have lying around the garage or you can go nuts with brand new pieces.

      @@omgbikes Small is fitting great! stand over height feels a bit low but is pretty much perfect. Took it fully loaded with front rack and panniers along the Tahoe Pyramid trail 50 mile round trip out of Reno and it was exceptional. I can't say anything about the stock reach as the bike shop messed up so I had to buy my own stem (went with 90mm instead of 80mm) but it feels pretty good, very upright. Switched out the saddle for my Brooks B17 as well. The grips do leave something to be desired after 50 miles with unpadded gloves my hands did hurt a bit. But besides that the bike is perfect really enjoying it!
