    The white guy said something that I have been trying to put into words (for over 15 years) - he said we lost the Celebrity when we took the mystery away and social media took the mystery away - man i been trying to express that but could not put it into words - that is part of what made the 90s artist Legendary to us (we didn't get to see them every 5 minutes - but whenever we did get a chance to see them in a magazine, movie, commerical, or in person it was a huge moment) - but I been waiting so long to hear someone say what dude just said

    Spotify can't really solve this. Artists sign deals where the label keeps like 80%+ of all money generated. Spotify has nothing to do with that. Spotify gives like 75%+ of their revenue (not profit, revenue) to rights holders. Rights holders then keep 80%+ of that and give the leftover to artists. You fix that, you solve everything.

    They definitely have a HUGE point about the mystique being taken away from ur favorite rappers. As a kid and teenager I used to wonder if Scarface, NWA, DJ Quick, etc, etc, were really living the lives they were rapping about. The mystery helped drive my interest in them and their music. NOW, though, social media has pulled back the curtain on artists. Now u see the assholes, cowards, snitches, etc, etc many of them really are. It makes u not wanna support their music because their character is somuch the OPPOSITE of what they portray in their music.

    The answer is someone actually understanding the streaming business. How much is stream really worth? It’s more of a technology and advertising play. How much would it cost to host or attain the bandwidth to setup a platform where millions even billions of people are listening and or watching tons of content 24/7 without glitches. What information about the user is actually be attained and used? What is it worth to advertisers? Tidal had the correct and fair business model they just didn’t go far enough. Ask every artist or creator to buy in in exchange for their art to be distributed on the platform and they would get their equity share, royalties publishing rights too. Very complex but better than what is out right now

    • @joojoobaw
      @joojoobaw Před 6 měsíci

      I hear you but I think the answer is what Statik said. If you pay $10 a month, $120 a year, your money should be divided up between the artists you ACTUALLY listen to - the majority of profits should not go to Taylor Swift just because she has the most fans
      (and thus “stock” in the company without needing to actually have equity in the company)
      Divide the pie into fair shares amongst who each consumer listens to, not saving the majority of it for those you don’t. It really is that simple to make a huge difference to smaller artists

    So tired of these conversations lol Spotify isn’t r*ping anyone …music is worthless without money behind it and it has to be massively consumed it has always been that way… ppl arent listening to most these peoples music. They could easily put there albums and songs on there website sell it for $20 and 200 people buying it a month would equal 1 million streams so why don’t they do that? Cause they know they can’t get people to buy there music …stop pointing fingers

    I hate when artists place blame on the consumer instead of their unwillingness to fight for anything. They've already accepted defeat and hoping for others to save them. Too many artists have laid the groundwork for how to succeed while being independent. Artist need to stop being lazy and do the work. No matter how they break down the listens, most artists aren't getting enough traffic to make significant money off of streaming.
