Since I recently caught up with the third season of Attack on Titan, I realized that any song composed by Linked Horizon is simply god-tier. Therefore, I decided to upload a piano cover that I should have done a long time ago: A piano arrangement of the FULL version of Guren no Yumiya - the legendary first OP song from the first season!
Unlike my piano cover from 2013 ( • Guren no Yumiya (TV si... ) which was an extended TV-size, this full version arrangement follows the exact same song structure as the original song.
I tried to replicate the song as best as I could on the piano but it borders on the almost impossible. Just too many things is happening at the same in the musical score of the original Guren no Yumiya: Sword clashing SFX, epic guitar solos, ominous German narrating, monumental choir in the background, more German words, a full blown orchestra and basically, everything else Linked Horizon could have thought of.
Guren no Yumiya is literally an overkill of a song. And that's why I love it so much.
Well then, I hope you enjoyed this small nostalgia throwback!
I am also glad to finally catch up with the Attack on Titan franchise. I did not even have a chance to watch the second season of Attack on Titan until a few weeks ago, nor did I follow the Manga. I was basically completely clueless about the story after season 1 and for almost 6 years, I hadn’t been spoiled at all (I don't know how I managed to pull it off, lol).
Needless to say, I was absolutely amazed at the plot twists in Season 2 and Season 3 and the reveals about [potential spoiler] and [potential spoiler] were completely mindblowing.
I am absolutely looking forward to the final season of Attack on Titan, which will be airing in fall Season 2020. Hopefully Revo from Linked Horizon can deliver another awesome opening song again.

This is without a doubt, one of the most intense and FUN experience I've ever listened to the piano cover ever. This arrangement is like a celebration in a way, an explosive firework of piano shred that screams "MY NAME IS ANIMENZ AND THIS IS MY ARRANGEMENT" XD You seems to have a lot of fun playing this piece too, which is nice too see :3
This piece seems like a perfect combination of power and technical finesse imo, all the chromaticism a classical-esque technique was combined with sheer power and insanity of octave jumps and runs. If I were to see, it's like the technical complexity like your "Attack on Titan OST - Attack on Titan" was combined with pure power like your "aLIEz" or "Bios" arrangement, resulting in a bombastic piano piece that simply HYPE INDUCING TRAIN that manage to exudes the refined aura and elegance. Very nice work man, I'll be sure to loop this arrangement many times in the future for sure :D
I also realized that in the recent videos my face is showing up more often, due to the intense headbanging when playing the piano, haha. But yeah, this piece literally is sheer power and insanity from start to finish, there is almost not a single second where you can rest. Th-thanks Revo

Back in 10th grade, I got really into Attack on Titan. Now, I‘m a really mediocre pianist, but I was determined. I practiced for hours every day and after about a month I was able to play your original version of Guren no Yumiya. Of course not up to speed and with some mistakes, but I was insanely proud and it showed me that I can play any piece if I set my mind to it. Seems like a new challenge awaits me!

Also, I'm currently learning your This Game arrangement, and having trouble with the arpeggios on measures 28 and 32. My arpeggios are pretty bad in general. Do you have any tips for them or should I just practice more until they become comfortable?

I love how his covers always sound so distinctly like the song they’re from. All the nuance of the original song can be heard and that is WILD with only one instrument played by one person with no editing. Other piano covers trying to do the same thing don’t do this anywhere near as well. The emotion he puts into the songs is amazing too. Animenz is one special cookie.

I didn't find the joy to love music. Then, I found your video about Guren no Yumiya first version. I have been inspired by this song from that time. I have seen Animenz played this full cover in lots of concerts. Finally, it becomes a proper arrangement today. It is just so awesome. Also, I think that although all the openings from Attack on Titan are pretty good, the best one is Guren no Yumia. This song has even won Heisei Anisong Taisho. All the opening after Guren no Yumia seemed to copy it at some point. Anyway, nicely done. It is so powerful and dynamic. It reminds me of the suicide charge managed by Erwin. If you already finished watching all 3 seasons, it feels different when you are listening to this song.
I picked out the best ideas from each live concert performance of this song and combined them together to this final version of Guren no Yumiya. And yes, I agree. That final charge by Erwin smith is just soooo legendary, definitely one of the most awesome moments in anime I have ever watched.

This is so good on so many levels...The harmonisations, the progressions, the amazing arpeggios, the dynamics, the really impressive and seemingly impossible jumps...it's all so overwhelmingly amazing! Yeah, this song never gets old. In fact, this is the very first anime piano piece I have performed live as Animenz. It was the first piece of the Singapore 2013 live concert, together with TehIshter. Good times, haha
Listening back to the 2013 arrangement, it's insane how much he has improved. I already thought the 2013 arrangement was really fast and powerful, but now it pales in comparison. The new full arrangement completely triumphs over it. Glad he uploaded this.

My favourite memory of Animenz is from one of his masterclasses/concerts in Brisbane, in the Q/A I asked him how he arranged the intro part 0:30 and he agreed to show me at the end of the concert. It was super cool! Glad I met him!
