This is one of the top selling duffel bags, We liked the external pocket, padded bottom, fabric, and attention to detail. We wish it had a pocket to store the shoulder straps in which would make it better as a travel duffel.

Turns out it is lockable. All you have to do is get one of the small TSA locks and put it through the ends of the zipper pulls. Worked great on a recent trip.

Hi Craig, Great review! Do you know How this one compares with the osprey duffel 95 L. I am between those two? osprey seem to have better/more comfortable backpack system but Patagonia seems more durable and waterproof.

Can you make a shoulder strap for the duffle bag? I want to get the duffle bag, but prefer a single shoulder strap.

I own and have used both the Patagonia and TNF duffle. If I had to buy again I would go TNF: bigger D-opening, more durable, and can be locked.

It's a black hole because we don't see the insides and so I guess it is just a big deep rectangle with those two mesh envelopes?

Have two duffel bags from Ortlieb and in my opinion they make the best waterproof bags. And you can roll over them with a tank

Is there really no way to lock this bag up? This seems right on the border of a carry-on size...if the airline has me check it in wouldn't I be SOL?

  • @trtlzfrggy

The backpack straps definitely remove from both ends and VERY easily. The bottom is a click buckle like he said. The top is just a rectangular piece of plastic that on the strap fits inside of another plastic oval shaped ring attached to the bag. If you pull the plastic piece attached to the strap, it gives you enough slack to rotate that plastic piece (about 90 deg) and slide it out of the piece attached to the bag.
He also didn't mention the two sets of compression straps inside the bag (at least on the 90L) or the cool feature that this bag will fold up into that outside pocket for convenient storage.
Awesome bag, but the review didn't do it justice.

I just received this bag today and had it not been for your comment I'd have thought I was missing some straps. It wasn't too difficult to figure out one fit inside the other, but I wasn't about to test it without confirmation. Not sure why it wasn't mentioned in the video, but thanks for writing your comment! :-)

Had both - you want this type of bag to be simple and bulletproof so for me it has to be TNF - looks cooler too ;)

You can carry it a couple miles from a vehicle to a camp site, but it's not something you'd want to spend all day carrying.

the Cargon has been updated with no end pockets. Straps can't easily be removed either. I went with it due to less blingy shiny appearance, but some of the features this reviewer likes, have been removed

+Brett G this bag handles splahes like a champ, use it boating and take waves over the bow mid race all the time. If you let it sit in water though it will leak. I also treat mine a couple times a year with a rain repellent.

I have been a professional guid for 10 years and this is not my first or second choice on the river or boating. It will leak like sieve not because of the fabric but because of the zipper.

No shoulder strap is a deal breaker for me. It's a lot more trouble putting it on as a backpack than throwing it over your shoulder. It doesn't look good as a backpack either. I almost bought this bag and then realized at the last minute it was missing the shoulder strap. Whew!

    • @rosnow
