- From the much underrated album "Promised Land" which I recently reopened and found a new respect for...Queensryche has always led the way with new and different sounds and VERY relevant songwriting. I have found myself going back and reading the lyrics of their earlier albums before the breakup and am always blown away with the depth and musicianship or this amazing group. Of course you already know I'm the biggest Scott Rockenfield fan so there's that too...Played to a drumless track I created from the Xtrax Stems 2 program and on a kit I specifically built in the TD-30 module for this album sound. I dare you to compare it to the original!!
- Hudba
The Roland TD-30 is one of the best sounding drum kits I have ever heard. They are totally in their own league and no other Roland drums sound anything like them.
One of my favorite Queensryche songs and you killed it!
Hell yeah surprised you knew this song. Promised land is an underrated album.
Man I loved so many things on this video: from your amazing kit, that overhead shot angle, lighting to your awesome open handed playing style! The sound was totally top notch. I enjoyed the whole video, thanks!!
Thank you so much! In a world of online drum cover-Ers I’m trying to stay different and not get bored with my own repetition lol. The open hand is still a work in progress but has been the best change I have made to my style in the last 10 years. Thanks for your feedback!
Love this song and album! Great playing! 🤘
Man , You are now an absolute guarantee!
Amazing sounds and performances!
Perfect cover!
Amazing job Mike, and and a fantastic song.
Everytime I see that Birdseye...I just don't think there is a better angle on CZcams. I can watch you play all day. Great performance on this one, Mike. Love the independence. Awesome stuff.
Haha I know I can’t seem to get away from that thumbnail lol. It’s almost a trademark of sorts. Thanks for your support brother! Stay safe
You always play Queensryche/Scott Rockenfield so well! That hihat/ride shuffle is a trademark of SR. I dig the lighting, camera work and quality sound! Great cover by drumdog69!!!
Thanks Rich Dawg! Yes I love the the a Ride/hat groove Scott has played in many of my favorite Ryche songs. He also throws in many subtle splashes and off beat accents that he never used to do before Promised Land. He, as well as the band was always changing and learning new styles, yet another reason I appreciate him and how he has influenced me over the years!
Perfecto amigo sigue subiendo videos un saludos desde MÉXICO las tomas aéreas están excelentes y queensryche de mis grupos favoritos🎧🎶🎵
awesome dude....did great job
Mike, honestly ... you should consider developing your own sound package for Roland modules and sell them online. Amazing work, brilliant drumming, a pure joy to watch. Hope you are safe, my friend.
Not a bad idea Mike although I’m more interested now in developing the sounds from samples. Hmmmm I wonder who got me into that? Well aside from that I considered sharing some of my own presets and have already. It would be nice to get paid from them though! Thanks for watching my friend
Queensryche is a great band and that was some great drumming bro ! :D
Great job!! Cheers!
Again. Amazing job buddy. Thank you for spoiling us with your wonderful skill
No spoilers here Cary! Just having fun lol
Mike man..........unreal! Straight up, I wasn't familiar with this one. Went and pulled up the track and did an A/B - you OWNED this! The dynamic range you display, the drive, the energy, the visual side incorporated into the playing (which I love) - this is fanf*ckingtastic dude.
You are the best!
Absolutely great my friend, cool song and you rocked it 😍🤘
Thanks Tati! Nice to hear from you again!✌️🤟
Nice Mike! Killed it as always! Love the strobes... gives your studio & the song a little flair!!! 👍💯
Yeah I'm always looking to mix it up a bit. $30 for some sound activated LED's is doable haha! Thanks for checking it out Tracy!
that was an absolute killer run thru of that song!!! I agree on Promised Land being very underrated. I did a take of a much older QR song a month or two back as well. Rockenfield was a beast of a drummer for sure. Subscribed to your channel!
Thanks Eric! I’ll check out your channel. Anyone cool enough to cover Scott Rock deserves a look 🤘🤘
@@mfournier01 i wish he were still with the band.....
So accurate!! Amazing job
Thanks dude!
Great album,great song also disconnected
Wow MIKE! Just noticed this one and DANGGG! Killer performance and mastery of the mix. I always love covers that sound like the drum performance is part of the song. You and Trey B are favs because of that. You guys make it sound like you were part of the band. You have nailed the V-Drum world perfectly. Just a great vid of a really cool song, period.
True I’ve always found it fun and challenging to sound like I’ve “replaced” the original drummer with not only the sound, but the style as well. Trey has a much better mixing/engineering talent than I but with the V-Drums I don’t have to worry about mics/room/bleed etc. it’s nice to just plug in, set my levels, and go at it! Thanks for your observations brother!
Killer cover man, nice work!! Really dig the lights in the back too
AJS Drums thank you for the feedback sir! The lights are anew addition to try to bring back that live feel I experienced back in the day lol!
Incredible sound, nice job dude :D
Progressive rock will always be my second love, next to the drums that is. A well deserved thumbs up from myself buddy.
Thanks much Stephen! I’m always looking for some new ideas and your channel has some good stuff! Like the play like the pros lessons. New sub here!
I appreciate that man I really really do. Hopefully I be in a position to start uploading fresh content again soon but plenty there to get your tastebuds flowing. Thank you!
Mike dude!!!! I had no clue that you liked Scott Rockenfield I liked you before I like you even more now Rockenfield is one of my top 5 favorite drummers I have him up there with the likes of Lars Ulrich, Dave Lombardo and the late Nick Menza. I have recently started to listen to Queensryche again and I stumbled upon the live version of this song and it was simply awesome but your cover was 10 TIMES better dude. But what am I to expect from you EVERY cover that you've done you have absolutely killed. I am always excited when you do a cover because I know when I hear it I am always gonna be blown away
No Clue? I'm probably the guy with the most QR covers on YT!. Just search QR drum cover and I guarantee I come up with 5 of the top ten LOL! He's a beast and one of, if not THE biggest influence I have had since The Rage album. Thanks for the support my friend!
Oh my this may be one of my favorite covers I love your electronic drum set and you are quite the drummer I am absolutely featuring you on my weekly cover show next
Thank you Michael! Some heavy hitters on your site! Jeff Holden, Uzi, Trey B., Earl, Rich Raw Dawg, all great guys AND drummers. Subbed your channel. Hope it grows for you! Cheers
Great job on this cover! You gained a new sub 😎👍🎵
Great cover, you should try Burning Man from Queensryche. Great Drums on that track.
Mikey you just cranked it up to another level. Spot on as usual which is always the case. The new video editing is awesome bro. Told you a while back that you should’ve applied for Rockenfield’s job before Grillo took it. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Cheers Paul.
I would have loved that gig Pauly but I’m getting too old to keep up with that kind of schedule lol! Funny thing, Susan Tate reached out to me in Jan. via Facebook from our Kingsryche tribute page and asked me to fill in a few European dates with Geoff’s band. They were doing Rage and Empire albums! I originally said yes and broke down my gear and had a plane ticket in hand...had to cancel though. $ was crap and I would have lost my job and family medical insurance🙁. Was psyched for the offer though. I screen shot the ticket ans some text conversations for proof lol
mfournier01 holy shit!! Man that would’ve been an awesome gig but I totally understand why you didn’t take it. I had the same experience when I was younger and a very popular Aussie band wanted a drummer for a 6 month tour...money was crap and I’d have to give up everything. It’s a hard choice to make.
Cheers Paul.
Have we ever released drum covers on the same day? If not, today is the day! As always, solid playing and amazing song choices! Not gonna lie, I come to see if you got a cover with the SD3 samples working. Still waiting. Happy Father's Day (if applicable), Mike!
Ha good deal Bryan! We should team up to do a double drums cover or something crazy like that! So I just got a 43” TV today for the studio. Father’s Day gift from my two kids. Using it so I can actually see what I’m doing in SD3. I’m having a tough time seeing the screen on my 15” laptop while sitting at the kit. I am also struggling with figuring out the interface. I’m so used to mixing and tweaking the sounds to my liking on the fly, I am unsure how to get the sounds I’m looking for in the program. Maybe I need to use Slate or Addictive? The processing is already done...your opinion?
@@mfournier01 Trying to get the sounds you want in SD3 is a really challenge; I struggle with it to this day. What I typically do is find a preset kit that is close to what I want, and then just start tweaking it from there. Takes time but once you figure it out, it's great. I have the added resource of having multiple sound packs so layering other samples on top of samples helps a whole lot; like did you know my snare and kick sounds are usually 3 different samples? Layering samples is part of the key with SD3.
Great stuff, very talented. Would love to hear you do, the Prophecy by Queensryche, one of my favorite drum performances.
I’d love to hear me do that one too haha! I have to build a kit to sound like the early albums first. I’ve received many requests from that era so I’m overdue. Thanks for watching!
@@mfournier01 oh, okay, had no idea, love your covers, will continue to follow your content!
Man, sounding really good. Your productions are really coming together with the lights too... man looks and sounds great. Question, are those adidas flip flops your wearing. I used to have a pair years ago and they certainly didn’t look too comfortable though they actually were... just curious man, truly awesome video and awesome cover.
Thanks Steve! Just trying to keep things interesting ya know? Yup adidas slides! Most comfortable summertime footwear. Do much do I forgot I was recording in them 😂
mfournier01 it happens to me every time too!!
How about doing Burning Man next?
Damn how did I miss this, you got new IEM's....what did you get? Give me a review on how you like them. I use Sony headphones when tracking/practicing and use my Bose Soundsport (like you have) when making the video.
Ha! Can’t get anything past you can I? So I was reading a string on the V-Drums Facebook page about best headphones to use and many drummers use the KZ ZS-10 pro 1DD in ears. For $45 I was all in. Definitely louder and broader frequency range than the Bose Soundsports. I think the highs are a bit overdriven though. The recording never sounds as bright after the fact so I found myself kicking up the highs to compensate on the track. I had to change the tips to find the right fit which is oddly difficult but they feel comfortable now. I would still mix with the Bose!
@@mfournier01 That's awesome. I have had these on my Amazon wishlist for a while and was always afraid to pull the trigger. I might have to pick up a set based solely off your review. 🙉
I got the IEMs and I do like the sound! Very happy with the purchase, thanks for the recommendation.
Flip flops.
Slides actually 😉
