The rest of the other Spanish teams are like Championship teams? In the 21st century 7 Spanish teams have reached European Cup finals, whilst only 5 English teams have done so, yet they somehow think that anyone beyond the big three in Spain are rubbish. Less money in Spain, but better teams and coaching styles across the league.

Appeal to Europe. Just because Atleti/Barca/RM/Sevilla have had quality over the years doesn't imply that latter teams of Leganes etc replicate similar quality. Quite the opposite.
Truth is their management in the bottom 12 is a shambles, most players are B team farmers with little experience of top football.

On the other hand, this style of playing has brought their international and club success. Wonder who I'd want to be in this case

Well first of all to be the greatest league is subjective. What makes a league the greatest? Does the Premier League have the better parity amongst teams than the other 4? Yes. Is the quality of the premier league teams the best? I wouldnt say so. MLS has even more parity than the Premier League and so does England's Championship as well but I wouldnt call them the greatest. But the debate isnt about which league is the best. If they dont watch La Liga and watch Messi or Cristiano week in and week out they shouldnt give an opinion on who is the deserved best player....

Jay Murthy Penaldo is so arrogant let's go back to 2011.
In 2011, when he won the Golden Shoe as Europe's top scorer, while Messi won the Ballon d'Or, Ronaldo took importance away from the prize supposedly given to the best footballer in the calendar year.
"The Ballon d'Or is votes, but the Golden Shoe is goals, it doesn't depend on anyone's votes," Ronaldo said as he received the award alongside Florention Perez and Alfredo Di Stefano.
We all know what he said this year after winning the same D'or which he criticized coz Messi was winning back to back in that time lol.
This guy don't know a scorer can't be a best player maybe he don't watch Gerd Muller otherwise he would've known he is nothing infront of Gerd lol.
He is not even best in Real Madrid.
Btw i thought D'or is an individual award but lately turns out a team award lol what a disgrace.

Then was seen acting like the manger on the side lines. Ronaldo has won the award because of the media. The ballon dor is voted by the manager of every football team in the world do you really think that they get home and look at all the stats thoroughly before voting no they stick on sky sports and look at the head lines.( “Ronaldo taken off early seen crying he’s so passionate”). Since last November Messi is the only player that has scored for Argentina but yet again that goes unrecognized. From October to mid December Ronaldo went on a 5 game streak of having a 7.5 rating or less, Messi haven’t had less than a 8.3 since last June.Ronaldo has the fake tan the cool hair the six pack he is a media darling. Messi, the playmaker, who plays as CAM, outscores entire Europe, even with players like Gomes, Denis, Deulofeu, who don't deserve Madrid's bench. Compare them with Asensio, who is benched at RM lol. Ask Ronaldo to win UCL with Denis, Gomes, Deulofeu instead of Kroos, Modric, Isco, Marcelo.
      (2) Cr7 is great only at NUTMEGGING HIMSELF, heading, penalties, diving to get penalties/free kicks, modeling, social media craze, and waiting in the box for tapping-in. That's all.

Totally garbage and using far too much of what his teammates and manager contributed in winning titles vs his individual contribution. Supercopa both games, Messi did nothing, while Ronaldo came on as a sub scored one of the best goals of his career and won the game. In addition, Ronaldo destroyed, Juve, Atletico and Bayern to win the UCL. Ronaldo had bad El Classicos but Messi´s champions league finish was lackluster thats why Ronaldo got the nod.

the ballon d'or has become a joke nowadays. it has become a popularity contest. whoever is the most famous player of the team that won the champions league gets the award. in this case, ronaldo. everybody's talking about the important goals that ronaldo scored in the CL knockouts but everyone seems to forget how controversial some of them were. Also if you want to go by stats, messi has the most goals, assists and chances created in europe in 2017. and for anyone who argues about messi playing more games, you have to understand that he has played more games because he is the most important player of Barcelona and they are struggling without him. Moreover, if you want to go by international statistics, yes, ronaldo has scored more goals, but he's been playing against mediocre teams like faroe islands and latvia while messi was playing in the most difficult world cup qualifiers. plus, look at how many points argentina lost when messi was playing and when messi wasn't playing. again, you can see how important messi was for Argentina. I really hope they (whoever votes for the ballon d'or) stop being ignorant and getting brainwashed by the media and next time actually give the award to the player that deserves it

Messi "used to" work harder than him? Messi plays as a midfielder when the game is not flowing, he plays as a winger to create width, he gets in behind if he finds space. On the other hand, Ronaldo keeps asking for crosses so he can head or tap it in. How many times have we seen Ronaldo get behind the team and take control of the whole game? I am not talking about moments of class. So NO Messi WORKS harder than that product.

Premier league at the end of the day is a league full of average teams right now. I mean look at city right now. Messi plays in the middle of the pitch while hazards more on the left. Hazards moved into the middle this seasons and check who has had more dribbles this season. And about key passes, Barcelona don't shoot as much as other top teams. There are all backed by stats. Hazard has never scored more than 25 goals a season or even assisted as much. Sure,he is very pleasing to watch but messi combined aesthetic pleasure with actual numbers and performances in ucl knockouts in the last decade. He played well in the all games, winning more Man of the Matches than anyone else in Europe. He won his team more points from his goals than any other person in Europe. He won Barca the el clasico in which Ronaldo did nothing but miss chance after chance. This year Ronaldo has the worst conversion rate of the people in Real Madrid. Ronaldo also has the most big chances wasted in all of Europe this season. Of last season's big game goals in the Champions League, Ronaldo had a third offside but still counted. Fact. In the Champions League Messi was moved into midfield against PSG and he thrived in unfamiliar territory helping Barca to make the biggest comeback in Champion's league history. Ronaldo has a higher percentage of assisted goals (other players assisted him) than any other player in Europe who scored

To all those who say "but Ronaldo scored the important goals"; so next year we'll just have Cristiano come in after the quarter finals then as all else doesn't matter (his team will just to care of the rest, no biggie). Besides that, scoring the "important" goals is 80% luck anyway. 80% luck because you were in the right place in the right time and 20% skill because you were in the right place in the right time and you did the right thing. I am aware that there are 22 players on the field and 1 out of 22 is not 20% obviously. I say 20% because skill does affect the game disproportionately and Cristiano has lots of it. Just try not to act like a few important goals is the most incredible thing you can do in football, especially when you are one of the best strikers ever, that is your job, I expect nothing less. Having the best team last year is what won them the cl in the end and everyone knows it (alright and the ref). And I urge everyone to watch that game against Bayern again and really look at Ronaldo's play, it's awful, it really is, important goals or not it was unfitting for "the best" player in the world.

The only two players who have a chance to win it next year (apart from Messi and Ronaldo) as far as I can see are Kevin De Bruyne (and that's coming from an Arsenal fan) and Neymar Jr - and even then it's a long shot. PSG and Manchester City are good enough teams who on their day could win the Champions League (over other sides like Liverpool, Man United, Chelsea, etc.) but then on top of that their national teams (Belgium and Brazil) would also need to win the World Cup. That's the only way one of Messi or Ronaldo won't win it next year.

If a British player led his team to a title winning season, plus Champions League, he has a really good chance of winning the Balon dor. Hell, the World Cup is this coming summer, if an Englishman plays the best out of everyone there and leads his team to a Champions League, perhaps he could win. Then again, the voting is a popularity contest, seen when Mbappe finished higher than Lewandowski in the voting.

Maybe ONE of the best goal-scorers in history and even in that aspect, his efficiency is terrible. The amount of shots CR7 takes to produce his goals is ridiculous. CR7 is a finisher, point blank period. He can barely dribble without falling & he doesn’t CREATE chances, he just scores. Again, a great goal scorer, maybe in the top 10 players of all time, definitely not THE best.

      (1) Cr7 is only good at finishing, and he doesn't even score the most goals, with the best club in the world.
That's all.

The criteria for the shortlist is bollocks nowadays. Stats and trophies rule the roost. They should be basing their decisions on performance alone by all players. Regardless of their position or prior exploits. How have they played this season? That would be my criteria to choosing the rightful winner. If goal scoring is a factor, look no further than Cavani . Again, Harry Kane has been brilliant. I'm in no way advocating for those players but I feel there have been players who bring more to the team than Ronaldo does for Real.

I watched football from the early 2000s and I've always fancy the likes of playmakers like Zidane and Ronaldinho over goalgetters like Schevchenko and Etoo. Premier league is exiting and filled with goals because of the lack of tactics and defensive mistakes in La Liga and Italy that’s not the case there’s less errors and more well organized play. Look at Aguero, Sanchez, Silva, Cazorla, Michu(first season), De Gea, Mata and more they came in put up amazing stats coming form La Liga and it’s because they played under tactics not just physical play scrappy football that you see in England. Messi should have been banned for at least 5 games and FIFA took away the punishment for Messi (after he insulted the ref by saying: "la concha de tu madre" three times) to play for Argentina. Short answer is yes.
    Either CR, or Hazard.
Messi was terrible vs PSG/Juve, I think it's okay for an ageing player to have inconsistencies in parts of the season, granted he delivered when needed most.
Not sure what these clowns are mentioning British players for. They're levels behind Pogba, Mbappe, Dembele, Hazard, etc. Closer to Serbian farmers.
Messi in his prime (2011-12) was hard to match, but prime CR at United was unplayable in most respects.

Hazard will never win, unless he moves to Real. The competition itself these days is much more based on what a team achieves and then the standout player. If you look at individual stats there is no question who deserves to win. Messi. (He got most goals and most assists). However Messi won the Copa Del Rey with Barca, the equivalent to the FA cup in England. Whereas Ronaldo won the Champions league and La Liga and therefore won the Ballon D'or, if it stays the way it is then I can't see an EPL players ever winning it until one wins the champions league.

Why would they bring preimeir league nerds to judge ronaldo or messi? The other guy even said the last time he watched messi play was 12 months ago so how will he know how Messi performed? Those guys don't know anything about la liga.

I disagree with the other guy saying Ronaldo can make his own goals out of nothing. That shows he doesn't watch real Madrid games

Ronaldo played in PL for 6 years!!! and he dominated the PL, he was dribbling more in Man U than RM. So when these pundits say Ronaldo wont be able to get away with it in PL, it's rubbish. Messi is more of a ball hog than Ronaldo (Ronaldo does more 1 touch 2 touch passes now, whereas Messi chooses to carry the ball...) if Messi held onto the the ball for that long in PL i think he would get clattered

How can the English continue to believe all the teams in la liga other than Barca and Real are crap? Just look at the Spanish success in European competition, Champions league and Europa League.
