Canadian here, I will not be storming parliament, sorry. Lol. I honestly don’t know how you handle the months and months of campaigning, we had 35 days and I was ready to blow up my tv.
Now you know why Americans are so angry all the time.
Trump never stopped campaigning, even while he was in office. He blew up all the protocols, precedents and norms in that arena! Like he did in so many other areas of the Presidency. He's not a decent man and doesn't have a care in the world about ruining our democracy. He's made the lack of civility normal, and so many are now following his bad behavior. It's acceptable now to call people names, threaten and bully everyone over the smallest of things, and show their guns or shoot someone because they now believe that that's their 1st amendment right, (it's not), per Trump & his enablers.
You say months and months, American politicians start campaigning as soon as they are elected.

@@alvarny77 Americans also vote multiple times a year and that would drive anyone insane. A news outlet from Vancouver was complaining today that the province of BC had gone to the polls in some fashion once every year since 2013, except for 2016.
I’ve voted over 20 times by mail in the US alone, in that same period. Not including the Canadian elections I’ve voted in, too.

Back when The Late Show announced Stephen as the new host upon Lettermen’s retirement, I thought, they could have not done better. Well here we are, he has not disappointed in the least. John and the band are fantastic, the writers are brilliant, this show has it all.
Having said that, I still miss the Colbert character of the old show. Funny how he got out at just the right time. The actual conservative pundits are so outrageous, I don’t know how he could parody that madness.

I love how Canada has a short, but reasonable campaign period for their elections, but the truth is this snap election was still a waste of money. Trudeau only picked up 2 or 3 seats in Parliament, which means he still has to negotiate with other parties to get anything done.
So his election is a success, but in terms of gaining more seats to have a solid majority to pass legislation without the threat of being defeated, not so much.
I thought it was a dumb idea but my father pointed out it was about $20 bucks each to find out that despite the pandemic nobody really changed their mind. I think Ontario and Alberta would like a provincial election though.

You think a minority number of voters (it's the corporations with mega-billions controlling the electorate AND our politicians) should be able to override the majority? If, by example, 5 states understand that climate change and its causes from industrial pollutants is very real, but 2 states don't "believe in climate change", and then those 2 states get to call the race because of the Electoral College...well, you tell me what's wrong with that picture. That's an oligarchy, not a democracy. Fuck your goddamn beliefs. Any smart society knows that in order for it to survive, you don't ignore scientists. Since Y2K, we've seen the devestating consequences of this upsidedown system. It has to change. It HAS to. I'll give you this, though: as it would take time to do something abt the Electoral College, we CAN take faster measures to eliminate Gerrymandering. THAT should go before anything else! It's an insidious device that has NOTHING to do with democracy.

Conan was the best part of that award's show by far. They are always such boring and dry affairs. He brought some fun to it because he just doesn't care anymore since he's done being a late night host.

God, but his Eric Trump impersonation is hilarious. I'd love to see the real Eric Trump watching Stephen's impersonation of him, just to see him tear up at how true it probably is . . . so desperate for approval from the father who was never there to play catch with him. Sorta reminds me of Ralphie Wiggum from the Simpsons, but somewhat less lovable.
Ralph deserves way more sympathy than Eric because his shortcomings are genetic and Eric's is wholly due to his own actions.
I cringe every time I see it. It's very much middle-school mockery. There's so much culpability around the Trump family, that it's distasteful to make the choice of mocking someone for being psychologically harmed by narcissistic parenting.

@@AdrianColley I agree with you - I don't think that the observations themselves (that he tries hard to please his father) are that cringe-y but the way he does his mouth - it is very unbecoming I think to focus on appearance. Sometimes Meyers also goes into appearance which I think is wrong. Punch up not down. Yes, the target this time is well off and powerful but the appearance (lips, fat, etc.) joke can be applicable to others.
