The U.S. production of Sherman's was 50 thousand
Of which thousands went to the UK, thousands to the Pacific, thousands to Russia. The free French and free Poles also got them.
"In the Mood" was also the title of a big-band hit song by Glenn Miller. You hear it in almost EVERY American WW II movie, and even a few British movies.
That Tank is outside the lake in the UK somewhere on display. Someone found it!
Lol😂😂😂
Cigarettes actually came in their rations so they always had cigarettes.
Can't give one person in a crew an award. It's a TEAM effort. His team was also "the best of the best".
Yes, movie cameras existed in the late nineteenth century; but in the WWII era they were still bulky and expensive and used film that was not exactly cheap, so it's not like you had regular people running around with video cameras filming their family birthday parties and whatnot. (That didn't happen on any kind of widespread scale until the advent of camcorders, i.e., cameras that could record onto re-usable magnetic tape.) But, boxing was a much bigger deal back then than it is now, so the current boxing world champion sparring with the troops to boost morale is exactly the sort of thing that got filmed.
They actually have film from the front lines in WW 2.
Since they have war video, this is probably the actual video. They could've video all of Joe's sparring matches. That's awesome he found it. Good reaction.
I am surprised that you were surprised that they had film of the Joe Louis fight. WTF!! They had film before the first world war. There are movies from that time.
Videos shown of FDR and other moments… nothing.
Videos of the fight: shocked Pikachu face.
Sometimes I wonder about Kabir. Lol
Like, dude… the first videos were in the late 1800’s. Laurel and Hardy were from the 1920’s and on.
@@alexanderzadoroznyj I always thought that the Europeans had superior education, but watching some of these you tubers make me wonder
@@gregorywilliams1308 I’m now also questioning if he truly got the “inches are better than centimeters” joke. 😅
@@alexanderzadoroznyj not to mention that the military doesn't take people with bad eye sight, because they are afraid they will be sued.
I mean cinema history here, D.W. Griffiths super controversial 3 hour long silent film "The Birth of a Nation" was produced in 1915. If you don't know why it's controversial, it's essentially like Gone with the Wind, but the South wins, and the KKK are the heroes. I absolutely s*it you not, that was essentially what was in that film. Like entire black face, slavery, racial discrimination, supremacy's, etc. and all that modern controversial PC stuff was done back in 1915 for 3 hours in a silent movie. It wasn't even humorous or entertaining like Buster Keaton was for crying out loud.
19:47 You get to keep your uniforms and boots. You do have to turn in all you web gear i.e., helmet, canteen, gas mask ammo pouches et al. You also have to clean the stuff. It's kinda a nervous joyous time.
My grandfather was a tank driver in the 4th AD. They were some pretty bad dudes too!
I know you mean he was a driver, but that typo is funny man, a tank diver 😂
@@Sarge80 oops!🤣
What set the Medal of Honor as different is service "above and beyond the call of duty." His tank warfare was inside the "call of duty." It was great, but was IN his set of orders.
Normally eye exams for something like that is they'll put the chart up and point at a line and say, "Read this line." If you've memorized the entire chart, all you need to really see is which line they're pointing to and you recall what's on that line.
You also need to recognize that American Sherman tanks were built differently than other WWII tanks and there's really 1 reason why it can't be compared to any other tank produced during the war. Name 1 other tank that wasn't made in the US that had to be hauled over an ocean in either direction before it could be used. Name any other nation that was fighting to the scale the Major Allied nations and Axis powers were that vehicles separated from their factories by an entire ocean. The US shipped out Sherman's with reliability and ease of maintenance in mind.
Also a tank being taken out doesn't necessarily mean the thing is a burning wreck and can only be written off. If you hit a tank and you sever the fuel lines, that tank is pretty much knocked out. You fire at a tank and you jam its turret and then also blow a hole in its barrel and then blow off one of its tracks, it's effectively knocked out. A taken out tank is more or less the tank is unable to pose any active threat on the battlefield anymore. Sure it's got holes in its armor now, but when you get an entire "bone yard" of knocked out tanks and a bunch of spare parts sent over with the tanks, you can salvage and frankenstein working tanks out of what you've got, ship back the unsalvageable stuff back to the US. If it could be repaired, the US repaired it because we couldn't just call up Detroit and ask them to send 4 more tanks down the street and get them to us in an hour. It was a case of they get here when they get here and you get whatever makes it.
Please keep up the best of Fat Electrician - he is such a great storyteller and does his research.
Based on the info I could find there were around 7,100 Shermans that were “lost” on the Western Front. 2712 were British and around 4300-4400 were American. The total production of Sherman tanks for WWII was 50,000 units.
German losses were all of them. Note these losses occurred in the 11 months and 1 day following D-day, June 6, 1944.
Old news reel film footage transferred to video.
It was just the eye exam chart so they;d just memorize what they saw with their good eye they didn;t exactly change it up back then like they could now.
I was a USMC (United States Marine Corps) Tanker, Driver then Gunner, up to 2015.
Easily the Best job I've ever had 🎉
Dude! They had movie cameras then. According to a documentary I just watched, the US produced over 50,000 tanks for WWII.
Watch the movie Tank with James Garner. 👍🏼
Dude, film/motion pictures had been going for quite some time (maybe as early as the late 1800s, not sure) by the time WWII broke out. Not sure when it had sound, but think Charlie Chaplin (1920s?) So, yes, actual film footage of Joe Louis sparring with troops.
Memorize entire chart. It's what I did
The Fat Electrician is awesome! Love your reactions to his content!!!
Kabir? My husband is blind in his right eye. He fooled eye tests by covering his right eye with both hands and reading the chart with his left eye twice.
HE IS A VETERAN. That is why the warped sense of hunor
Be sure to check out Nick's [The FE] episode about the "Doom Turtle"; the experimental super-heavy tank developed by the US during WW II. Check out the one on Admiral Willis Lee as well.
Did they have video during WW2? Really Kabir? I know you are very young but where do you think all the military videos you watch came from? 35 MM film was available.
You should watch the adds because they’re normally hilarious and wait till the very end because lots of times there’s a short clip right at the very end after it shows the logo at the end. Sometimes it’s bloopers and sometimes it’s just something funny that he says to close out the video
I got some fat electrician merch & it’s actually fire, high quality material, looks & fits great, would highly recommend. Got the “it’s never a war crime the first time” hoodie, S.T.E.A.L shirt or to “strategically transfer enemy equipment to alternative locations” & got an offer for a mystery shirt for $15 & got the “warheads on foreheads” shirt as the mystery shirt, which is the one I wanted but wasn’t available to buy in the shop & I got it as a mystery gift, worked out perfect. Not to mention TFE is one of the best CZcamsrs on the platform imo & a US military veteran, I’ve been on yt for well over a decade religiously & that’s the first CZcamsrs merch I’ve ever bought
Have gotten compliments on them when I wear them & from ppl who don’t even know who or what the fat electrician is & I NEVER get compliments on my clothes lmao. First compliments on my clothes in months or years💀 that’s not like a sad thing, you get used to it as a guy unless your like super stylish ig. & to correct myself, you don’t even get used to not receiving a ton of compliments on clothes, you just never do in the first place lmao
Their reason for not awarding him the MOH is bull shit because they gave a submarine commander a MOH
Kabir, I gonna reiterate that you should react to The Fat Electrician “The Real Take Genius of WW2 - Percy “Hobo” Hobart”. A true unsung British hero.
A well trained hand picked team is why. If War Daddy trained them like I read he would be doing drills constantly and not allowing slacking until they were off duty. It's just like special forces can do more then regular infantry - it's the selection and the training that allows them to outperform regular units.
The US Army as well as the press were filming all kinds of things for morale back home and there were hundreds if not thousands of combat photographers and videographers.
The US had thousands of tanks knocked out - but due to the fact we could retrieve them as well as design we were able to repair a lot of them in the battalion or division level repair depots. From what I've read over the years unless the tank detonated or suffered a severe fire they could fix it relatively easily.
Edit to add: You may want to look into the series WW2 in color and Victory at Sea. Both are full of combat footage from WW2.
31:37 Idk if this is the right way to describe it but their unit was basically in my mind like special forces, they were the best of the best, literally. & then I believe to be the best of the best in the US military, you pretty much have to be a natural, I don’t mean achieve high rank, I mean be a legend or special forces. To preform at that high a level, you have to have it in your blood for a lack of a better term, you have to be a warrior. You can teach, train just ab anything but if that person doesn’t have it in them? They don’t have the spirit or instinct for it? You can’t teach that, you can try but you just either have it or you don’t.
I know what you were getting at regarding the other men seeing how it may have been possible for them to also be awarded the Medal of Honor. leading by example is often what creates the best of teams. but here's the difference: the Medal of Honor is not something you earn. nor should a servicemember be focused on their behavior and achievements merely for the sake of increasing their chances of being bestowed. you don't earn it--you are awarded it, for "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty"; "extraordinary heroism in the line of [their] profession". that is willful selflessness (not recklessness) in defense of nation and fellow soldier, far above what is already expected of you as a member of the US armed forces. compared to most civilians lol, servicemembers go above and beyond every day. to stand out among millions enough to be awarded the Medal of Honor is difficult, but when someone does, you can be pretty certain they deserved every ounce of the honor.
Can you react to Pentagon Hall of Heroes: Staff Sgt. David G. Bellavia's Speech it is about a America's warrior class and those who died on the mission in Fallujah that day.
Every army has its ultra bad asses . The Germans had Whitman & his phenomenal gunner Bobby Wohl
Kabir, try and react to songs from the likes of metal bands such as Amon Amarth, Nightwish, Arch Enemy, Metallica, Killswitch Engage, Anthrax, Trivium, Spiritbox, or Megadeth. You will have a lot of fun doing so.
I “lost” my leather flight jacket and had to pay for it, and it was worth it.
If it gives you some perspective on film. Snow White, the first animated Disney movie, released in 1937.
That's animation. I'm not saying that's not valid it's just different in terms of production and technology. Steamboat Willie released in 1928. Buster Keaton's "The General" was released in 1925. The hyper controversial D.W. Griffith's """hit""" "The Birth of a Nation" was released in 1915. Film has been around for a while and has just a slight head start in front of animation. Snow White was impressive for it's roto-scoping an IRL filmed actress acting Snow White's parts into the animation (which is why she looks quite a bit different style-wise than the rest of the characters.)
He had friends go in and write down each line and he memorized it😂
I would gather since it was promotional they had people recording yes like I would like 9 mm film or something like that background so they probably just enhanced it somehow that’s why it looks better today🧐
16 mm newsreel footage.
In sherman tanks specifically America produced more than 50,000 after the war ended and production stopped
Took a guy going full on forrest gump before they realized maybe holding back people with talent and promise is a bad thing. Capable doesn't seem to equal sensible lol
JEFF was HERE 🏆
Great reaction, FYI , TFE after his merch speech and hazard sign pops up ,he always gives us an "Easter egg" its always hilarious, love his little rants at the very end , Stay Safe , and HAGD , quack bang ~~im out
I was told once while in the Navy I could goto the medics but could face charges of destroying gov property cause I let myself get a bad sunburn. You become government property when you join up.
Nick, The Fat Electrician is former Army like myself.. so he adds a lot of military humor to his videos
He may not got it because he drove that tank into the water member that cost Uncle Sam a lot of money and don’t think they won’t get back at you somewhere another🧐 that’s just my educated guess
👍🏾
Back in then until now. Eye chart always the same. They are printed in high qtys. Keep cost down
A couple variations. Lawson Ramage apparently got a new one thrown up. So it's more or less that they all have the standard 1 and then maybe 1 or 2 rearranged variants as a backup "just in case" a hero's about to step onto the stage.
Today, I think they just do RNG projections. I can't imagine the US Military being denied to the same or better technology than my local ophthalmologist. Last time I went in for an eye exam, it was like just him projecting a line of RNG generated letters and numbers and then he could just have them re-RNG again and again and change the size and everything. Normally it's like the whole chart is up there and they narrow the projection down to one line or section. They just go line, generate new line, generate new line. I'd imagine the Military has the budget for that.
The US built 64k tanks in WWII.
America produced 86,000 tanks in WW@
Oh they had vids back then bud but just not in HD
Dude, you asked how do they have footage from WW2? Are you serious? You do know that movies and news reels have been out since the 1920s, right? They even had sound and color pictures since the 1930s.
When you get out of military it’s not that bad close. You do have to turn in every piece of equipment you was given to you.😢
did you actually ask if they had cameras back then?? where do you think ALL the footage of WWII came from??? DUH....
American lost over 4,000 Sherman's and the British lost over 2,500.
Dumb bombs dude
First
Maybe find another channel?🤷🏾♀️
