In my opinion this song very much is an expression of things beginning and sadly it will find an end. When Jeff plays his solo it takes me on a trip...a trip to remind me that life is short...and we all, we all must enjoy the moments we have. Hug one another, love one another and express how you feel from the bottom of your heart, while you might only have one chance. A good man told me.... for "life is short but sweet for certain." God bless you all.
A 4 MINUTE LONG PENNY WHISTLE SOLO!!!!!! I have great respect for LeRoi but DAMN! Jeff Coffin is a God!! Who else could do a face-melting whistle solo?!?
@@villainboxing4653 do you know who John Henry Bonham was? Look up the song Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin if you haven't ever watched it. Bonham was pretty phenomenal. When you watch him doing stuff on that song for 13 or so minutes it's pretty cool.. They're both unique in certain ways that makes it fun to listen to.
I just realized that I was bobbin' my head and totally enjoying (for like the tenth time repeating this song)... a 6 minute flute solo. When has this ever happened? Dave Matthews Band is magic. :-)
You know... in my country DMB are almost unknown.. I moved out and now I live in a different country. And they came this year and I went to their concert FOR THE FIRST TIME... last sunday... waited for this opportunity for so, so many years... I CRIED when they got into the stage... I coudn't believe. Well everything was so perfect... and waited for this song, they played only 3 acoustic songs, and Bartender had to be one of those!!! I was a bit sad... of course it was a beautiful moment, but I truly wanted to be an electric version... because only this way BARTENDER is so so... magnificent. Maybe next time... :)
They are all so "intune" to each other here, it's wonderful to see and hear. They took a hard hit losing LeRoi, but wow for Jeff! Toughest shoes to ever have stepped into and he's done well amazing job. Boyd is awesome, they're truly magic:)
Sheila Barron I’ve seen them 37 times I’ve seen him and Tim Reynolds twice I’ve seen Bruce Springsteen seven times but that’s only because I could never afford the tickets but I used to go see Dave Matthews in a bar in Virginia when Stefan Lessard Was only 15
governors island i think was the best caravan show. it was the best setlist and best crowd ever!! The fact that it was right before the hurricane made it awesome too lol
ME TOO on the Tears!!! My eyes start to water up when he is singing that part where his voice is going higher and higher building up to the part when he is literally screaming. First time I heard this song was at a concert. I was so blown away I was literally balling my eyes out. My buddy was like what the hell is wrong with you LOL.
@Broadwaymungo I am on the FREAKING FLOOR TOO!! That was unbelievable. Just like you I became a HUGE DMB fan in 1998 and they remain my FAVORITE band by far today. I am a tad cynical about DMB from everyday onward as well. The first time I heard this song was the first year he started playing Bartender live along with gray street. I have been OBSESSED with this song ever sense. This is the best one I have heard too, and all the other ones i have heard were hard to beat. WOW
While a very good version, the tempo, I feel, was far too fast & and you could see Dave doing more yelling than singing along with not being able to use his creativity. The song was *extremely* rushed. There are better versions out there although of course, Dave can do no wrong in my book. ♡♡
I was there, it was amazing! The only time this song touched me more was when they opened the weekend with it (at the Gorge) a week after Le Roi died. Though that time may have had more to do with the crowd. Not a single dry eye in sight...
That is INSANE. IN-SANE. I'm a hardcore "Bring Back Steve Lillywhite to produce NOW!" DMB from 1998 type DMB Fan. Meaning; I'm a tad cynical about DMB from "Everyday" onward. That said, this is one of the greatest performances of this song I have EVER seen. EVER. This is certainly one of, if not the best after LeRoi's passing performances of Bartender I've ever heard. I am on the freaking FLOOR right now. Did I say "Wow?"
I agree everything was good than the Lillywhite sessions were leaked and everything afterwards I look and listen too differently. This song is great..they r hitting on all cylinders
i grew up listening to the old DMB. I'm 15 yrs old and my parents literally have every album until the past couple years. Bartender has always been a favorite.
The comments on Tim are quite clear I think. He only had real added value on specific songs, but not on all of them. He has a tendency to play too many notes, where DMB used to be about space and air between the big sounds... Just my 2c...
love this guy... glad he's found happiness with his wife- otherwise I'd be wantin some Daveness all over me- and I'm freaking lesbian!! But this guy hits every spot needing attention.

I have to disagree about his voice. It sounds strong as ever to me. On the other hand I am with you 100 percent when you say there is no need for Tim in this song.Seriously there is Way too much going on in most of the songs with Tim.I was annoyed by this when I saw them last live as well.I play acoustic guitar and I love to pick out what Dave is playing all the time and Tim making all that extraneous noise all the time is distracting at times making it harder for Daves playing to be heard.

You can tell Dave loves this song. How hard he hits
This is without a doubt the best version of this song ever played.
With the whole band, maybe. Bur the best version of this song is Dave and Tim at Radio city music hall. Goosebumps every time I hear that version.

Tim is just wailin' back there the whole time!
Jeff Coffin is one SICK horn player wow so good DMB you are truly the best live band ever!!
drummer one of the best in the world.
*the best in the world. I fixed it for you.

No offense...I love LeRoi; but he was nowhere in the class of a musician as Jeff. Jeff is "World Class" Sax and winds player!!! RIP LeRoi
@@tonyinmiami99 I saw someone make a perfect comparison. Jeff has more technical skill as a horn player, but LeRoi had more soul.
Beautiful!!! It was absolutely amazing seeing Dave Matthews play in Virginia.

This song will always be my favorite from the band. I've been very fortunate to see it many times in concert. It always brings a tear to my eye...
From the darkness to the light... holy shit
INSANE LIVE. NO WORDS. DMB BEST BAND EVER.
So amazing its ridiculous.!!!! Wow.
the best version of this song on the internet hands down.

this version sucks. sorry.
I bought this webcast and when I first seen Rashawn I was like "WOW! HE DROPPED A LOT OF WEIGHT!"
A boire jusqu'à la dernière goutte et sans modération!
When i heard mention of a 4 minute penny whistle solo... i was like maybe i'll skip that part... but holy shit, that was awesome!!!!!!!!

Was this in Kansas or something? Any significance to the Wizard of Oz tease or was this something they did on every stop of the tour?
I do miss Boyd

LOL that made no sense, but hey I needed a laugh this morning. :)
No you doesn't. He adds a lot of great harmonies to the song and a lot of other songs they play.

Then you clearly have not listened to Dave's solo work or the band's history for long.
Bitter!!!!!!!

Not a better arrangement around !!!
