"Jimi Thing" 5.19.12 from Gexa Energy Pavilion, Dallas, TX Tickets for Dave Matthews Band Summer Tour 2013 available now. More info available at davematthewsband.com/tour
This has got to be one of the best feelings in the world. Being a singer/songwriter, and having the masses know & sing every line of your song. Truly awesome.
First and I can remember that they sang his song big time good. OMG WOW truly has got to have Dave on a cloud. He will even get better now that’s huge. I’m sure they are feeling it about now. They honored him very well. I wish I could sing a song with no words to it. Only sexy Dave. I think they need to turn down Tim’s amp some It takes away from Boyd.
The recording on this is super good! Can hear bass clearly and the audience too which usually doesn't happen. Outstanding! Great version!!! Thank you for posting!
It has to be the coolest feeling as a singer/songwriter to have tens of thousands of people know, love and sing your own lyrics at shows all around the globe. Dave is the man.
Yes!! It's their memory, too, sometimes moreso than the band who plays every town on their tour with the same sets. Still and all, they loved being their too!!
Jeff and Rashawn havin' a conversation with with trumpet and sax, that special kind of talk between musical kindred spirits, don't need a translator, you just feel it in your soul
Can't get enough of how much Dave enjoys this. I remember singing the hell out of this when I was there, thinking it was the most badass thing ever. Texans love a little Jimi Thing
Gotta be the most amazing feeling in the world to hear thousands of people singing the lyrics to a song back to you, which you wrote in your bedroom when you were younger. must feel incredible
I think this is every Dave Matthews Band fan's dream. What an amazing experience. (To those who listen to the share...the last 2 mins or so has some strong language..if you are offended, simply stop the video!)
Experienced this in cincy two years ago, the whole song with the crowd. And it was a jam song, 15ish minutes. My girlfriend was like what’s this song now, I told her it was the same one and she bout shit when the verse and chorus came back after like a 10min jam session.
That's what I was thinking. I was looking at his expression when the crowd was singing even the second verse and seeing that smile come on his face. I thought "Gee, he's probably so tickled to hear his own lyrics being sang back to him." Then I thought about how that would make ME feel hearing my own words sang to me by thousands of people. I even imagined it in the ethers on other dimensions & what attention he's getting with his energy pinging from one end of the galaxy to the other. Awesome.
Today DMB is a quarantine buster. If you don't feel something or like me 'feel everything' fro the band, please get a Translator. Start my day feel peace & vibes to pick one Warehouse, Everyday, Rapunzel & the iconic Jimi Thing FROM the free B side of 'What would you say' on cassette at any record store. Know Producer Steve Lily-white swiped it up , never to hear music the same. A freebe in record store Parkersburg WV... In my heart & soul until 4 ever
Carter sits on the throne for a reason. This band is named after Dave, but it is led by Carter. What a consummate leader he is. I'd love to sit in on the sessions where they dream up the little things to add to these decades old songs. What an incredible group.
All I can say is The Dave Matthews Band is extremely Bad Ass!!! Each and every one involved in making the show possible for the fans deserves MUCH CREDIT. Total entertainment at it's best. Thanks Dave Matthews Band.
Violin I love that beautiful music that comes from it. I love when Boyd takes it away. Then Carter & Dave get him back to his spot & cut his parts short because of Tim. I also think they have his Amp turned up to high and sometimes it muffles Boyd. They have also given him long parts and notice it cuts Boyd’s parts somewhat and I don’t like that. I’m not sure yet but will find out why he is no longer with the band. When they were not touring Dave spent lots of time with Tim and my take & feeling is Dave wanted Tim in and has his volume on his guitar is drowning out Boyd & his Violin. I also carter gets more pumped up with Tim. Dave & Carter laugh at him when he moves around the stage & make fun of his dancing and that is not cool what so ever. Some of this songs were wrote with violin parts in them. I heard some of them a couple hours ago & they suck. Why would they even try to play those songs when they knew how they would sound with out the violin being played in there. They sucked big time. It’s almost like they pushed him out for Tim. I don’t think you should have that instrument being played next to a violin it’s over kill. They should have one or the other I’m not saying I don’t like those sound when they can reall make them talk., but you can make a violin talk also. I think of other kinds of music being written that they are awesome. I don’t like it in Dave’s style of music. I love all horns all clarinets flutes etc. and they fit beautifully. I picture all rock and roll songs with them. I just think it’s shitty and not no way shape or form a fit into that band. I for sure that someone would have said something about that to Dave since he doesn’t know & also doesn’t know how it’s going to change his music style. If you seen Warren Haynes when he played with them it was overkill and Dave you could tell he didn’t like it to much for he had control not Dave. Warren was trying to make them sound like Leonard Skinner. Don’t get me wrong they can be played so well and maybe that’s why they never want to share when there playing. Trumpets horns violin etc to me are meant to be played a there longer parts. Even the horns etc. stop in between until there next parts also violin have to stop. Any performer that plays those guitars think most they run the show for they can stretch out a whole song plus they play from start of a song to end. They can be very loud when turned up and standing next to the violin player it also takes away from the sounds of the violin

My favorite jimi thing video. The energy is outstanding. I smile like a big idiot when i watch this
I was there for this! Although, I was admittedly in a vodka-coma laying in the lawn section. BUT I WAS THERE!
HA!!
Possibly one of the best Jimi Things ever... blessed to have been there in person!!
The experience of not singing a word and hearing a crowd that big that knows a song you wrote that good must be utterly amazing!
it TRULY IS!!! bravo!
Hearing that sax really makes me miss Leroi. You are missed greatly by many.
When Aristotle said "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts” he anticipated the Dave Matthews Band.
When it's 0510 in the morning and you KNOW you need to leave for work or you'll be late....but there's still 7 minutes of the video left :D
The recording on this is super good! Can hear bass clearly and the audience too which usually doesn't happen. Outstanding! Great version!!! Thank you for posting!

Jeff Coffin is unbelievably talented! Love that he's with DMB!
That kicked ass! Love it when the crowd owns it!
Yes!! It's their memory, too, sometimes moreso than the band who plays every town on their tour with the same sets. Still and all, they loved being their too!!

Its by far one of the best shows Ive seen and Ive seen quite a bit
It's amazing to see a band that genuinely loves to be on stage, and has fun performing for their fans!

DMB is so awesome that even Chandler Bing is singing along at 2:47
