- Enchanted Portals might be bad, but that doest stop other dev studios from taking Cuphead and making it their own. At least these devs avoided the racism stuff so far. Lets check out just what in the inkwell 4 is going on with The Last Cup.

I think all these games could avoid all the controversies if they just brand themselves as fangames
Because, and I might be wrong here, I don't think you can really sell a fan game, since is taking from the original game it would go against copyright laws
Kind of like wanting to sell a Pokemon Hack ROM even if the pokemon and characters are original in some of them
Again I might be getting things wrong but I think that's why they don't market them as fan games

But idk why they don't just...create a new and original game with cuphead as an inspiration instead of making a cuphead fangame and pretending like it isn't. In this way, they would be able to penfit financially and free themselves from controversys and high expectations
Downward fall tried to do that and they got sued into oblivion

@@Hemogg1 Yeah! That clearly should be the aproach, Cup Head is not even like the owner or creator of that art style but these games take so much from Cup Head than just the art style
Enchanted Portal's art style doesn't look like a 1920s rubberhose cartoon, but it's more like this is something straight out of an animated Disney Channel show.
Cuphead looks more of a 30s-40 cartoon than a 20s cartoon.

I couldn’t help but noticed that the character at 2:55 isn’t a dog, but a goat hooked up to a milking machine that is making the snowballs. Now as far as I know that’s a dude goat since it has horns, so that ain’t milk in those snowballs 😭

why does the in-game sprite look like it's "trying" to replicate the 1940s Rubberhouse aesthetic. Meanwhile the promo art looks like... *really* weird Sonic and Knuckles Gijinkas
It's more like the 1920s than the 1940s, considering that this is the time when Tom and Jerry was introduced and The Looney Tunes was at its peak, at least during WW2.

My idea for the name would be _Ink And Paint_
A neat reference to a classic animation term, and there's a lot of things one could do with paint.

I can't wait to play as Playable Character in various locations such as the Lava Level, the Snow Level, the Desert Level and the Grass Level. It will be interesting finding whether the Many-but-small-damage or Slow-but-hit-heavy ammo types suit me better and of course to beat the Fake Final Boss which is definitely the final boss.

@@Thornskade German. I didn't realize he had other names in different languages since German dubs are notorious for simply hamfisting names into dubs. Arktos, huh, would've fit perfectly into German, but I have no idea why they changed it.
Edit: Ok, I think I am experiencing the Mandela effect because I was damn sure his name was Frosta in German, I even checked it again a while ago. I am really confused now.

Enchanted Portals had such potential, it’s such a shame that it didn’t turn out the way we hoped
I feel like the randomly generated levels were due to the low money the devs had, and if that’s the case then the lack of funds were likely behind a large amount of the game’s major issues (the actual gameplay issues I mean, the problems beyond just being similar to cuphead but not as good)

I got an ever BETTER idea! A Wario Land game that has a rubberhose aesthetic. Now it has a Run n Gun segment but here the catch!
It's that its only during the escape sequence and it doubles as a Beat Em Up because when you run out of ammo you go full ham on the enemies
And the more enemies you beat up the more ammo your guns will have! There is a limit to how much ammo your gun can take so once you beat up efficient amount of enemies your gun will be fully loaded.
During the exploration or Wario Land gameplay you can use enemies to harm enemies by thrashing them, throwing them, slamming them, bashing them, etc.
…ok wait I’d *actually* play that.

Man, you see games like these and realize and appreciate just how much hard work and love went into making cuphead and how above and beyond those devs went to give us something truly special.
Cuphead is a goddamn masterpeice.
I'm... dubious as to whether this game is for real or not. There's no link to any other social media from that trailer's CZcams posting, and it said "Summer 2023"... and that has since passed.

Okay, so I did find their Twitter page... and now it's saying, "Summer 2024", in the trailer there. Something's weird about this.

there were multiple examples in the trailers and things that looked very nice and refined that never made it into the game
The last cup + super hard games sounds like something a show would say instead of cuphead like as an off brand
I'll give the new games credit. They both nice animation and interesting characters.
But they would fit well as series than games, tbh.
One thing that bugs me is how these games clearly are inspired by cuphead but the developers don't seem to understand (or care) where cuphead actually draws inspiration from. None of these capture the feeling of rubber hose animation, they TRY using a filter and stereotypical animation tropes like the eyes popping (I'm not even sure of it's from that period of animation, I associate it more with later golden era but I could be wrong), but it feels really disingenuous and superficial. That's why they feel like rip off to me more than everything. It's like that period where everyone was doing analogue horror and they put a VHS filter even when it made no sense.
They could have done another animation style, like imagine a cuphead clone but inspired by internet flash animation

Maybe the cup will be like a macguffin.
I feel really bad for the enchanted portal devs, I had high hopes but the controls just weren’t as good as cuphead’s, which set the devs up for an un-winnable scenario.

I'd like to see people discussing Cосkhead (that's the actual game title) trying to compare that thing with Enchanted Portals and The Last Cup.
I seriously wouldn’t call the animation good though. A lot of the characters are straight up skeletal animations (think moving the characters like a puppet) rather than drawn frame by frame. Which makes it seem super cheap in comparison and doesn’t match the aesthetic.
Not saying it doesn’t make sense since this is kind of a derivative piece with a small team making it as cheaply as possible
The drawings are also somewhat lackluster. Looks very amateurish
So are we not gonna talk about how in the promotional art for the last cup is just a tracing of an Sonic and Shadow artwork?

That wolf boss (both the blunderbuss form and the fairy form) isn't actually Goofy at Home, it's Zeke Wolf (the Big Bad Wolf from Disney's Silly Symphonies) at Home.
I'm also pretty sure the "dog" from the Ice World boss is actually a goat: it has horns and udders, the latter being attached to that shopping cart thing (probably is supposed to be some kind of mobile milking machine?)
Anyway, this looks WAY worse than Enchanted Portals, which final version looks worse than its own Kickstarter trailer. This "Last Cup" thing is too bouncy too smoothly, as if it were all animated in Flash. And that's supposed to come out in 2024, even though we're only shown two bosses with two phases each from that trailer? Yeah I don't have high hopes for this one...

EDIT: Also, the Lotus Knight reminds me of a (whitewashed) Sky: Children of the Light character. She has the white hair and clothes, and there’s also a blossom cape in Sky that’s super close to what the Knight wears!

My god, how hard is it to make a decent protag? If you make them human, you've already failed. There's a million orher things they could be, yet you pick the most overused and BORING creature. Cuphead, while I wasn't a fan of him as a character, at least TRIED to be unique and creative, and his Atomic Bomb form in the flying stages is legit adorable.
Speaking of flying stages, I find it ironic that in both this AND Enchanted Portals, the most likable thing about the characters is related to squirrels. This lets you ride a cute flying squirrel in flying stages, Enchanted Portals turns you into a cute squirrel during the tree phase of the final boss.
