the melty looking moon is actually from a VERY old black and white movie called "A Trip To the Moon" from 1902

This game takes a lot of PNG’s from public domain and non-public domain cartoons. Public domain for example being the mad doctor “boss” and an example of non-public domain being Betty boop.
The witch alongside him is also the evil stepmother from the Snow White Betty Boop short.

"Takes pngs" is a pretty generous way of saying "traced". Also the Mad Doctor is half NOT public domain, during that Mr. Hyde phase. That's from a film from 1986, (The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) that film won't be public domain for another 8 years.

"Not Snoopy" That's Felix the Cat, he entered public domain about a year before Mickey I think.
"Swole Scientist" ... that is clearly a reference to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, that book is so old that even Bugs Bunny cartons from the 50s were referencing it

I remember when Sherlock Holmes was entering public domain the rights holders managed to argue that only the original version of him did and that modern Sherlock Holmes had a different personality. That's the same thing happening with Mickey, the way he looked and acted in Steamboat Willie has entered public domain but not more recent versions.

Big fan of how they straight up just traced the Lackadaisy dance for the cactus, expression and all.
The bear level with Uncle Sam is a reference to the rock band "The Grateful Dead." You can see the band's emblem in the sun and on the bear's vest, and the fight takes place in front of Terrapin Station (a song they performed more than a few times). The presence of Uncle Sam is a reference to "United States Blues" (a song they also performed quite a bit). The bear is likely a reference to the "Jerry Bears" that are associated with the band (thought they don't really look anything like the boss...).
Edit: Just noticed that the bear is riding a giant blunt during the "Zeus" Phase. This probably references one of the Dead's New Years Eve shows (I think at Winterland auditorium) where they had an "actor" dressed up as father time riding a giant mary jane cigar.

Santa’s walk cycle is likely traced from Dr. Livesly from the Soviet animated film version of Treasure Island, released in the late 80s.
A lot of the animation is from old cartoons. The chicken 3rd form transition is from swing you sinners short. And couple others are traced from other shorts which explains why the draws are inconsistent.

The developer of the game has commented on some peoples videos (mainly speedruns) and has said he has tested the game and didn't even know the cheat code would be found.

As other people said and the boss title it's known as the Charleston dance which is a social jazz dance that was popular in the 1920s

At 4:30, the moon is from the movie A Trip to the Moon. It is actually public domain! It was made by a man named Georges Méliès, a genius of the time. Many of his movies are lost because they were burnt into shoe heels for the war. His wife and him spent days painting each bit of film to make their movies in color.
There’s a fictional book inspired by his story called “The Invention of Hugo Cabret.” It’s a beautiful story with pen drawn pictures, creative formatting, and a plot that’s stuck with me for over ten years. It seems long, but its length is due to the many pages of pictures and strange formatting at times. I’d highly recommend it to any art, film, or history lovers.
They also made a movie about that fictional book simply titled Hugo, and it wasn’t bad.

The hate enchanted portals got was what this deserved. Enchanted portals did its best with its limitations to make a cuphead like game and this just tried to use mickey and cuphead to get easy profit.

It is shocking how they actually had a boss based around Mickey Mouse thanks to having the Mad Scientist who first appeared in a Mickey cartoon, but the make the boss comprise of other reused but unrelated characters including Frankenstein’s monster, eventually being replaced by Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde
Congratulations on beating the game and being the most knowledgeable person I've found on the greatest game ever made.

"Samurai" Lion (aka apparently "Ninja Sonic")'s animations are traced from an old Japanese anime called Benkei Tei Ushikawa but slapped with a cartoon lion's head on it. The background has CHINESE lions despite supposedly taking place in a Japanese setting.

They should have really had a boss that started on one side of the screen, before relocating itself to the opposite side by taking a straight path, then returning to its original position. It seems like some really untapped potential.

6:23 this "skeleton Uncle Sam" is most likely a reference to a band, the Grateful Dead, who use it as a mascot of sorts. The station in the background is also ripped from the cover of their album Terrapin Station, and the sun is the logo of their band. I have no idea why the creators of this game have such a generic cartoon boss before leaning full on into this theme, or even why they did it anyways, since the Grateful Dead wasn't even around until 37 years after Steamboat Willie was created.

Hi Pogobro! I have a cuphead theory. In the DLC secret level we see the devils skeleton, the angel and devil exit his skull and start to attack. The devil represents...the devil, but the angel represents chef saltbaker. My theory is the devil and chef saltbaker aren't living things and the devil( from secret boss), makes them evil, but the good one: the angel, makes them good, so the devil in the first game was in the state of being bad, just for a very long time, which means he could have been good sometimes, and the warriors from the astral plane tried to the destroy the angel and devil to stop this chaos. In the chef saltbaker boss fight you see him put a pink mushroom in his head while entering phase 2. Notice how the mushroom is pink, pink means parryable. You also see his eyes turn pink while entering phase 2. In inkwell isle 1-3 there are mausoleums, and you need to fend off PINK ghosts, the ghosts are evil, which represents the devil but the mushroom also makes things good, in cuphead there are parryable things that don't try to kill you, sure, the pink spikeballs in run 'n guns can kill you, but it doesn't mean they try to. Every parryable, evil, and good thing is from this mushroom, so the mushroom was what the astral warriors tried to destroy. But the pink mushroom isn't the true evil behind this, but the person who made it. I think an evil being from the astral plane is that he made the mushroom and the other parryables to destroy all beings that weren't on his side, but something made them have a good side. This angered him, so he created a reality, a place where living things thrive, and found a random family, which would be Cuphead and Mugman. He then spread anger around inkwell isle. He then created two guides for him: the devil and chef saltbaker. The devil was used for trying to kill immediately, and chef saltbaker to lure people in a trap. But because the mushroom had a good side, they could sometimes be good. I know your last theory was a year ago and you probably won't see this, but if you do see this message, I just want to let you know this is my theory for the astral plane. (this comment is better than my essays)
for the tooth fairy boss, you are able to clear out some of the dandelions with your i-frames, hopefully that'll make it much easier

Okay, so, I checked the comments to see if anyone else recognized it, but the wolf around the 7 minute range is actually from Disney's "Silly Symphony" series. He did appear in both versions of Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs. Just wanted to share since it brought back memories for me :)
