    POST FADER Send vs PRE FADER Send FX in CUBASE
    Many engineers are confused about the difference between pre-fader and post-fader sends.
    My goal for this video is to eliminate that confusion for good!
    Check out the video for a few examples, and one of my best tips on when to use pre and post-fader sends.
    Still have a question about this (or anything else…), leave me a comment below!

    Another special use for pre-fader: While recording vocals I send them pre-fader into a reverb. As I use direct monitoring I turn down the fader of the pure vocal track and use just the reverb to make me feel more comfortable while singing and still have no latency on the vocal itself.

    Chris, I remember an old video of yours about inserts pre or post faders (not sends as in this video), where you mentioned that insert post fader could make sense for a dither, for example. That was interesting to know, too.

    Great video. Pre-fader is also great when controlling effects in Dub music. Like temporary have the sound of a rim-shot through a spring reverb, without the actual rim-shot etc

    prefader can also be used if we want to eq the reverb effect and delay effects....that way we can only hear wet signals and making it clear with eq will be easy as hell....agreed ?

    Thanks for this video. I learn a lot from your videos. For the parallel compression case would it not be easier to just do compression in an insert if the compressor has a mix knob? Then you can setup the relationship in one place (the mix knob).

    How would i put an fx channel or group channel before the inserts? I'm trying to put 1 plugin on all my vocals before it hits the insert effects, and i don't want it to be realtime

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  Před 6 měsíci

      You can't in Cubase, for a workaround, you would have to use the audio track to send to a reverb, then route the output of that track into a group track that you will use to add Insert Plugins.

    Could you also just link the drum channels? (My Cubase is a bit rusty hence watching this awesome channel)

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes you can, but a VCA will work better since it's gonna keep a relative volume, balance between the track and parallel compression channel

    One more common time to use Pre-Fader sends: You may need to use them to make a Cue mix for the artist. Cubase Pro har 4 decicated Cue sends, but I'm not sure if all versions of Cubade does. Anyway, if you use a DAW that doesn't provide dedicated Cue-sends (or you need more than 4 in Cubase Pro), you need to use the "regular" sends for this purpose.
    In this case it's vital to use Pre-fader sends, as you don't want the musician(s) mix(s) to change when the engineer changes a level or mutes a channel.

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  Před 2 lety

      Yes, for someone not using Cubase Pro with Cue Sends, this is a very good alternative, thanks for sharing!

    I always found it odd that when adding sidechain sources in cubase they default to POST

  • @ragingchimera8021

    Another use is DI instruments sent to effects and you want to be able to mix in the dry signal. 😉
