    Thanks for the update, Jason. I think remote ID is good and necessary but I imagine only the responsible pilots will implement it.

    Part 107 pilot and Remote pilot 101 Grad. I also fly a Paramotor(aka powered paraglider) under part 103. One solution that I wish they would consider only requiring remote id over populated areas. As a part 103 pilot, we are not allowed to operate over a populated areas. That said us 103 pilots are left scratching our heads as to what a populated actually is as the FAA only defines a "densely populated area", but not a "populated area". Also as a 103 pilot we are not required to broadcast anything. No ADSB and not even required to communicate on aviation bands(I do though).

    Reading the actual FAA regulation was almost overwhelming to me. So thanks Jason for simplifying the overall intent of the new ruling. I don’t have any problem with what the FAA is trying to do. I just hope my current drone can become compliant with just a minor change that doesn’t add any significant weight or cause balance problems.

    Thanks for breaking the new Remote ID rules down for us. As a safe & responsible drone pilot, I feel it’s both my duty and my accountability to view these RID videos and digest all I can learn about the new FAA rules that I will not be complying with.

  • @moodberry
    @moodberry Před 3 lety +1

    Just wondering if RID will be accessible by the general public, or if the FAA might have to have a "key" to decipher the broadcast. Not worried so much by what the FAA knows about my flights, but more about what the public might know. For example, suppose someone tunes into my RID and locates me and/or hassles me or something worse?

    I’m good with this idea since so many people inadvertently ruin things for the responsible operators. My only concern is potential cost.

    I would like to give a HUGE THANK YOU to Jason his staff and remote pilot 101. Your course allowed me to obtain my 107c certificate. And I learned and continue to learn so much.
    I’m ok with the rules for remote ID as long as it doesn’t invite thieves or angry drone haters to my control site. It should not be information for anyone but the proper authority’s.
    But I believe that is what you mentioned in the video. The “digital license plate”. And I’m ok with that.

      And Google compared to remote ID. Tracks and takes more info. But I don't see anyone throwing those phones into the trash

    • @raytschudy8643
      @raytschudy8643 Před 2 lety

      @@michaelweeks9273 , those drones do NOT broadcast remote ID. As far as your analogy of cell phones being tracked, the general public CANNOT track your phone. Under this FAA rule the location of the drone operator will be available to the public so they could in fact locate and confront you.

  • @maykevin5

    I think the biggest concern is will a internet connection be required for take off. We fly in some remote areas where there isn't any.

    Remote ID has appeared in the base part 107 exam.... What do you do if you lose remote ID, when does it need to be activated? good stuff, thanks Jason.

    I have this app called "Flight Radar" that shows me live feed of planes flying all over the Country. I just tap a location button and it centers on me to show planes in my immediate area. Do you think that this will be showing drones once it comes to fruition? I fly near an airport almost daily and have a NOTAM, and so I use this app to see altitudes of planes as they pass. This just adds to my tools for safe operation. I think if that is the case, I would be glad to know that there is another way for manned pilots to see drones in any areas that they might be flying low. As Professional Part 107 pilots we all know depending on the day and the lighting sometimes it can be tricky to keep perfect sight on your drone without a strobe and possibly even harder for a pilot depending on the color of the drone. Also thank you for your work keeping us all informed and trained up :)

    Hello 👋 From the beginning general aviation rules are what the FAA had! They did implement! Fly Charter Part 135 👍

  • @uavpilot112
    @uavpilot112 Před 3 lety +1

    Thank you, Mr. Schappert! I love Remote Pilot 101 and recommend it to everyone. I scored 100% perfect on my Recurrent exam! (Not to brag . . . OK, just a little).
    Changing subjects, I think remote ID raises a lot of concerns and most of the >50,000 comments to the FAA were negative. It certainly hurts hobbyists if they are restricted to "FRIA's." Manned aircraft do not weave under trees and buildings like FPV racing drones can at low altitudes--which poses little risk. Why not let them "race" and have a right to fly at lower altitudes?--instead of banishing them to scattered FRIA's like a caged canaries? They wish to explore dynamic environments--not fly lazy laps like a 60-year-old grandpa with a model fixed-wing plane!
    Also, I think the biggest concern is not law enforcement seeing where and how we operate. If we do things legally--there's no major cause for concern there. Just like we don't worry about our car license plate being visible--for example. Yet, I think many fear harassment from drone-haters in the general public. If they can simply open an app and see exactly where we stand flying our drone in real time--every "Karen" can report to the FAA or local police to complain (even when we have every right to use the airspace). Or, drone's getting stolen by "bad guys" using the app to track us. It saddens me there can be a stigma or bias against drones by those who don't understand them or see the beauty of aerial photography. Flying a drone is such an incredible uplifting experience!
    Drones already record flight routes and telemetry data. So, people should take note where and how they fly--as these flight records are embedded in your flight app automatically. And, can be called into question if you break the Part 107 rules. Remote ID shouldn't impact Part 107 users as much though--especially if we buy drones with the technology already built in. Wonder if it will require us to use cell-phone data while we fly? I don't have unlimited data! And, what if a person flies in a remote location where there's no cell tower connection--even if they turn their data on? Perhaps the drone will broadcast as it flies connected with the app or cell towers or via satellite? Then, we don't have to worry about using up our cell data.

    A weight of 1 pound falling 11 feet results in a kinetic energy of 11 ft-lbs. Which means my Phantom 4 Pro+ with a weight of 3 lbs could only fall from a maximum 3.6 feet to be within the regulations. Not likely a reasonable scenario.

    Hey Jason, i had a question. I have my Part 107 license. I saw your video with Ken Heron when you broke all this down. I’m interested in what you were saying about how being part of a credited school like RemotePilot101 will enable me as a pilot, the capabilities to fly over people and night time operations as well. You mentioned that as long as we continue our education through your school, we also won’t have to do the FAA Part 107 test any longer every time our license expires. Is this rule in place now? I’m curious because I’m coming close to do my License expiration, and wouldn’t mind joining your school if it opens the doors to operating over people and night operations, not to mention saving money from re-testing every 2 years as long as we are enrolled in your school. Any advice would help, thanks for your time🙏🏻

    Jason, I’ve been thru both your courses, and we’ve met at SpinUp2019. How do you believe a broadcast module would be able to keep a legacy drone from taking off, especially older drones that are no longer supported by the manufacturer?

  • @TheJoncic

    My only hope is the broadcast module doesn't impair flying and it doesn't cost a fortune.
