- Alina and Art were lucky enough to witness a full day of the volcano raging, but that's not all - a small lavafall is now filling the Meradalir valley.
Experts are predicting that eventually the lava will measure as much as ten metres in height, after which the molten rock will roll on towards Suðurstrandarvegur, the nearby road.
Volcanic pollution now hangs in the air, ruining the summer weather in the capital area. But luckily, changes in the wind are forecast. Geldingadalsgos always has something new in store...

You did an excellent job, Alina!
I always thought that the Grapevine editor in chief and his videographers were a class act, but this was one of the best overviews of the volcanic system that I have seen so far. How you manage to keep walking up steep trails in bad weather and high air pollution without getting out of breath astounds me. It's very hard to give a coherent view of all this complex and changing geology, but your talk plus the breathtaking video views pulled it all together.

yes, talking coherently toward a camera in a foreign language is difficult enough, doing this during hiking is even more difficult, congratulations Alina! Good Job!

Art needs some awards for shooting these videos. Even the last one, just walking though the park...but half the time backwards and up slopes and still everything in frame. And these volcano ones on the sides of mountains. Impressive work.

Considering the wind conditions the audio quality is great. This lady is a great narrator.

That's cameraman Art. He has the ability to take these fantastic shots and never falls as he's doing it. His slow panoramas and drone shots are the best in the biz.

I've wondered that in several videos. Reminded me of the saying, "Ginger Rogers had to do everything Fred Astaire did backwarfds and in high heels"

You shone as brightly as your coat, Alina. Excellent report but the real star is Art and his remarkable ability to be superb on all terrains.
Absolutely brilliant commentary and camera work as usual. The whole team is so professional and amazing in the effort they put in to bring us these broadcasts. Does anybody else realize how difficult it was to walk up a hill, watch where you were walking so as not to fall on your face, and still report useful content without notes for that length of time? Good grief that was impressive!

Where I live (in Brisbane) 15c would be a cold mid winters day.
The "precious fiber optic cables" are pretty precious. Losing that means a lot of necessary connectivity disappears.
Would we lose the livecams if the fiber was destroyed or are they on a different setup I wonder.

I'm very much enjoying Alina's reporting and perspective. In the US, some folks use the word 'like' way too much, just as the use of 'um' or 'em', but I'm not trying to be a jerk - just saying. I think she is doing a fantastic job, and her dialect is perfect.
There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism, in my opinion. In the long run it helps shape an ever better reporter.. a win win all the way around.
Here in the UK young people are always saying "like" !
In Canada too, it's so annoying to hear that many 'like's in a conversation. I don't know how they develope such habit, cannot correctly link what they want to say then use this filler?

That's a great job walking and talking. You read about volcanoes in school but seeing it boiling away like a pot of water in slow motion because of the scale of it is always amazing. Assuming they are lucky enough the rocks don't break or shift I see how people are thoughtless about how fragile their boots might be if the heat melts them but that person with the long robe touching the rock is just in another world of their own.

It is really quaint to here people in Iceland say the weather is hot when the temperature reaches 16 degrees Celsius or 60 degrees Fahrenheit. In the US a summertime high of 16 degrees Celsius would be considered abnormally cold. This week in Texas, my location the temperature routinely reaches 35 to 38 C. Now that is hot.
Try 44 Celsius in Utah. That is uncomfortable.
@@traceyhacking7109 It's been miserable and DRY in Utah for so long now. Off topic, yes, but it's a sad sign of the damage climate change is doing to our world.
Great job, Alina! You make the multitasking of climbing and reporting look effortless. Also, I didn't know German is your native language. Your pronunciation in English & Icelandic seem spot on. And, I can't forget Art, who continues to show his mad skills at cinematography, including filming while waking backward over lava rock terrain!

Actually when you spoke of Hawaii and pronounced the "w" as a "v" as per Icelandic pronunciation that was CORRECT. "Hawaii" in correct Hawaiian pronunciation is a "v" sound rather than a "w" sound! I grew up in Hawaii in the 1940s and learned this then.

Alina and Art, you have made another wonderful video. It's amazing how the volcano has its own pattern - quiet for awhile, then amazing fountains and fast lava flow again. I am quite enjoying the softer side of Reykjavik Grapevine with this very clear narrator at the helm. So cute that the editor decided to keep in the part where the wind ripped the notepaper out of her hands and she had to jump over to retrieve it.

The day I can explain what VOG is in a second language as well as Alina does is the day I can say I’m truly fluent! Great video again.
What's even more impressive is that she is probably fluent in at least three languages. Obviously english and german, but we can also assume icelandic.
