Good technical setup and review! A year ago I set up my livingroom TV with external amp and speakers, using Kinter K3118 and a pair of Micca COVO-S speakers. This was for watching news and sports, and sometimes a movie. Sounded pretty good, but a year later I wanted better. So I noticed in my closet I had a forgotten pair of Micca MB42X speakers, which I have really liked in the past. I replaced the COVO-5's with the MB42X - sounded great! I heard new lows, but not boomy or punchy. The highs were balanced with mid-range.
Later I found I had a Lepai LP-2020A+ Tripath TA2020 amp in my closet. Since buying that in 2015 (and using it for a while), I have often heard about the famous Lepai and how it's not made anymore, etc. So I replaced the Kinter K3118 with the Lepai. Same tone control and volume settings. Right away I thought the Lepai sound was very "digital" and intrusive and somewhat annoying. I tried the "flat" setting with the push-button out. Still annoying. So I put the Kinter K3118 back and it is balanced and warm, at high or low volume, using previous tone settings or even flat.
I am not an audio chip expert, so I wonder how the TI TPA3118 chip differs from the Tripath TA2020, in regard to the overall sound quality.
Additional: The reviewer mentioned the loud pop when the amp is turned off. I do notice that with the Kinter K3118, but the Lepai LP-2020A+ is quiet. However, where I have the Kinter installed, I never turn it off.
Beautiful!! This is exactly what I needed when I google "kinter k3118 vs k2020a+".
Thank you! I'm glad you found it useful.
TPA 3118 - 2:37
K2020A+ - 4:08
LP-2020A+ - 5:52
TPA3116 - 7:31
They all sound great for those prices!
Great job! Fascinating!
Atomic Girl - Thank you! Be sure to check out part 2!
Great video but that breeze sparking scares me. Lol
Insignia is the best, sound natural, open and wide. Next is breeze, like insignia but insignia wider
If I just want to use one of those amplifiers as a headphone amplifier. Do I need to hook speakers to it
I Can't figure out what difference between them, can you point out or score/rank them by your self feeling?
Great test! I thought in Insignia and 3118 amps sounded best
I think the Insignia is the best. It's just bigger and more expensive. In a different class really, but it's got the best sound with the most features.
it maybe class a discrete

Is the class T better sounding than the class D amplifier?
In my opinion, yes. More detailed and natural.
Class T and Class D are the same thing. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Class-T_amplifier
@@somegeezer4058 yes but it sounds different and its built different.
@@somegeezer4058bur class d amplifier switch on a fixed frequency and class t switch according to the Input signal
It sounds as if those speakers have plastic enclosures. Or is it simply the poor choice of music?
The speakers are not good enough to reveal any difference
based on what?
There was a marked difference between the very first two. You have a tin ear...
There definitely is, mainly with the 2020. But with the TPA’s there’s not much of a difference.
Nothing really sounds good because of crappy speakers, not so much because it's a youtube video
