4:00. The short answer is. That is the exact frequency a 144 Hz Panel actually runs that. Just like a 60 frame panel will actually have a 59.49 optimal frequency range.
It's kind of like g-sync. It's lining the frames up with the display frequency.
Which makes it look smoother because you're getting more information per second. And it prevents frame tearing. By which some part of the frame is different from the rest of the display panel. Causing the picture to look split. Which vsync also gets rid of. But increases latency.
So if you have the option to run at that slightly lower frequency. You should usually take it. For better fidelity with no latency penalty.

I'm pretty sure it all goes back to color vs black and white analog TV transmission. Black and white TV was 30 fps, but black and white sets couldn't pick up 30 fps color. They could however pick up 29.97 fps color signals and everything since then has been a byproduct of that.

Monitors go to 143.856 because it's evenly divisible by the standard 23.976 framerate that has been used in movies forever. This means you don't have to use any pulldown which can create artifacts or frame drops although it would be really difficult to notice a duplicated or dropped frame at such a refresh rate.

4:30 - Having a tiny bezel allows for manufacturing tolerances. Getting those tolerances closer and closer to zero starts getting exponentially more expensive. The other option would be to bury the tolerances in screen resolution where you'd get 1430p to 1440p monitors with no interior bottom bezel.
Personally, though, I prefer more pixels. I also prefer interior bezels under glass to exterior bezels on top of the glass. They're more seamless and attractive to my eye. Besides, you'd have to get rid of both types to make an edge to edge display.

Good way would be to glue the screen nearest to the edge you can and have support behind it . Or entirely see through on little sticks basically and the main hardware is in a chrome cast sized container somewhere fairly close on the desk . I guess that's not very robust, the 2nd idea.

My laptop has a really good (but 1080p, but it's enough as 1 screen to me) so the next extra displays I'll be paying for will be AR glasses that work with Linux, Windows and Android (+ iOS etc those niches too if they so wish to lol).

This. It's either a thick exterior bezel to cover up the interior bezel, or keep it the way it is. Many people hate the lip of the monitor. Not to mention, it's 30 lbs. I ordered it anyway because the specs for a non-curved monitor is rare and becoming obsolete due to the popularity of curved ultrawide monitors. Hopefully non-curved ultrawides never go away because I get nauseated from the curved view. I may need to purchase an LG non-curved monitor as a backup and stash it away.

We can do a 4x pcie gen 3.0 connection over usb-c 3.2 gen 2 and lots of power. no reason to lock it down. Problem is sometimes it would wake itself up immediately after going to sleep (heard sounds of connecting devices so I guess KB/M got reconnected when monitor screen turned off) OR more importantly, sometimes when it did go to sleep, it wouldn't register KB/M actions until turned off and on again (which is a pain to do).
Other than this, it's an amazing monitor.

so about that weird slight under/overshoot on refresh rates:
the processor in the monitor isn't clocked at an even division of 120/144/240 or whatever you set. when the processor goes to make a subclock for the display's refresh rate, it gets as close as it can, but sometimes it doesn't get exact. some manufacturers probably do some firmware tricks to get the refresh rate displayed as a whole number, while others might just have the processor designed to clock at harmonics of the desired refresh rate.
tl;dr: the clock of the monitor's processor isn't evenly divisible by your refresh rate, so you get decimals.

4:00 it’s for NTSC compatibility, since to add color for that, they downclocked the refresh rate by 1000/1001. In PAL version, it’s straight 25/50/100/200 Hz while NTSC uses both 30/60/120/240 Hz and 29.97/59.94/119.88/239.76 Hz.
Not sure if that’s the case, but movies also uses downclocked values of both 24/48 Hz and 23.98/47.95 Hz. It could be to enable 3:2 pull down conversions, but don’t quote me on that.

I currently have the same size & res. MSI display but curved (1800R) and without KVM and honestly, for coding, 21:9 is IMHO far better than even 2 16:9s, because on them you end up with a lot of wasted space and swiveling your head too much (with 21:9 I can switch back and forth between 2 things open each on half of the monitor just by eye movement alone), while taking up much more space and requiting additional video output that your laptop may not have. This is great option for anyone working from home on company laptop and having their own gaming desktop. Since I bought it a bit over 2 years ago, 2 of my buddies bought the exact same model and both are very happy with it and we all agree that 21:9 is superior for gaming to our previous 16:9s and 21:9 is the format that most movies are currently distributed at.
Over all, I think the increased price, in comparison with mine, is worth it for the KVM and superior mounting options (mine only has tilt and doesn't have VESA), but I would miss the display curve (if you sit at your desk with the monitor on it like me, the 1800R is the sweet spot, but any further than that, flat would be preferable) and would love it to have USB PD.
PS: I deliberately didn't state the exact model of my display because 1. I wanted to highlight a use case for product in video and my experience with similar one, 2. if you're interested, you should look for what's currently available to you and suits your particular needs and budget 3. I do have to have Logitech's' gaming software open on both so the swap gets a proper handshake after it derps at least once on both ends, but I usually have it up anyway cuz I'm horrible at remembering keybinds for a bit when starting up a game, TBI that affects memory is such a bish.

I got M32Q(400e), mouse keyboard connected to my display. Whenever i bring my work laptop to home, i can just plug in my laptop and thats it. I dont switch between work and personal use tough as i need to work :D I did not know i needed this, when i bought this monitor, but super useful. Also, my work laptop is 1080p and m32q is 1440p, IT DOES SUPPORT EXTEND THIS DISPLAY and no problem with me, main monitor is 1440p and laptop is 1080p, my first usb-c cable did not work, but i bought a better (USB-C 3.2 Gen 2×2) and voila. calendar on laptop and workstuff on main. Occasionally display setting on laptop goes "show only on this device, and kvm does not register, but switching to extend on laptop fixes this, this is only an issue if you connect the laptop to monitor when monitor is on i guess

    I have the M32U here (4k 144Hz 32"). It's perfect for work AND Gaming

Side note - if you want similar functionality the M27Q is a standard 1440p res at 170hz and has the same KVM functionality for much much less money

Did I miss how the laptop and desktop were both connected to the same port on the monitor for KVM? Buying a KVM that actually gives you the expected performance and results is tough. So if you have a 1440p 165hz (thru DP) monitor, ensuring a KVM is capable of passing that through isn’t as easy to identify as you would think. It’d be nice if more monitors included multiple Display Ports, like they do with HDMI. Unplugging and plugging in DP from my gaming PC to my work docking station puts a little wear and tear on my GPU DP ports. I just switched over to HDMI for using my monitor with my work docking station, so I don’t have to keep swapping up the DP. 144hz at 1440p is perfectly fine.

I bought a g34wqc a while ago for 500$ cad ... Il love that thing for working from home and gaming... I would say the only low point is the backlight bleed present in really dark content... Wich wouldn't be as present in the ips panel I believe

Have had this display for a few months and I absolutely love it. The only downside is that it doesn’t have enough power output to charge my laptop, so even though the KVM works flawlessly in switching between my laptop and gaming PC, I still have to run power to my laptop. All in all though, it’s a great monitor and I highly recommend it.

Any downside to flat panel vs a curve?

@@goudiejordan2 I have never had a curved monitor, so I can’t really compare it, but I would say as long as you sit in a reasonable distance from the monitor it’s a non issue.

10:25 I think the point of ultra-wide for gaming is that the extra width is more for just your peripheral, to see stuff sooner as it comes into the field of view. I don't think during a typical gaming session you'd scan each corner of the monitor. Look at where the HUD is. But I've never gamed on an ultra-wide, so that's just a presumption.

You can just set the game to a 16:9 aspect ratio, and lots of games where the hud actually matters let you adjust it inward, e.g. WoW.

I litteraly just bought this monitor. It's perfect the only issue is that the USB c connection drops to USB 2.1 speeds when I'm using a Mac.
From some internet suthing I found out that the latest version of Mac OS doesn't play well with some USB hubs. I don't think it's a deal breaker but I know a lot of people use macs for work.

Within a day of this coming out, display goes out of stock everywhere > followed by some retailers labeling it as discontinued

I know that you said 'only hdr400' I bought the VA panel version, I have never experienced any form of HDR or 1440p previous to this. I watched COCO and Avengers: Endgame, It felt so much closer to a visual movie theater experience. Colors were wonderful and It felt like I wasn't watching a flat window but it was like the entire environment was just past the monitor. More depth I guess.

I bought the M32Q 1440p 170hz monitor for $500 3 months ago and its amazing! Better part is somehow, when I hook my PS4 Pro to it, the 1440p monitor outputs at 2160p through HDMI... I don't get it, but I love it!

Does the built-in KVM allow the laptop or other connected device to run at 144hz still? That is my current issue with buying an external one. I want that nice smoothness when using my other computer
