- This client was letting this hornet's nest do its thing for the season, but once the client was stung and attacked while mowing his grass, he decided to call me to come and get rid of it for him.
This is an aerial nest building yellow jacket species, Dolichovespula maculata (aka Bald Faced "Hornet"). I removed the nest and fed it to my chickens, emus, rhea, and squirrel!

I keep getting wasps hanging out at my apartment. So i opened the siding up at night and used a red light to see. Took the entire nest, and triple bagged it. Sat in the morning/afternoon sun, cooled them.
Wife made my favorite dinner, no more wasps messing with her
"The hornets are actually yellow jackets." Sounds to me like the same guy who named Greenland & Iceland also named these hornets, errr... yellow jackets?
It's such an interesting looking nest. Kinda alien looking.
short but sweet..... got to see the squirrel..... hope all is good. see ya on the next one!
I tried that truce once. It didn't work for me either. It was interesting to watch it grow from a small paper tube to a full nest. Thanks for the video!
Animals know those voices are just for them.❤️
Look at them all fanning at the beginning, must have been a hot day.
The voice he uses for his animals is so whokesome
*wholesome*
Hereeee birrddyyyy
whokesome
Wholesome 🤭
It's kinda cringey
Squirrelly is soo cute
I love the close-ups of your animals. They are adorable!
I HOPE YOU HAVE MORE VIDEOS SOON💯
Nice to see u back. Love your videos.
Welcome back! Always nice to see the squirrels so well fed after these removals.
Finally he posted a new video 🎉
Very unique build.
@628DirtRooster is actually a beautiful nests and they are pretty strong and I bet it would probably survive a mild hurricane
That was an impressive nest! I like to leave them alone, but not if getting stung is a risk!
Loooooove watching the squirrel lolol
you speak an entire new language to your animals
I do not mess around with bald faced hornets. Highly aggressive towards everything, the nest is never fully asleep, and they're surprisingly crafty. When I lived in Georgia, I noticed one making a nest on my front porch. I chose to leave it alone because I don't like killing anything if I don't have to. I figured it would notice that the area was frequented by a human being and decide it wasn't a good place to set up shop.
Nah, it didn't care and made a nest anyways. At first, it was just the one, and we were fine. Then it was two, then four, then six, then eight. Things were still fine and they showed zero aggression towards me. Once their population reached about a dozen, though, they would stop moving and stare directly at me every time I came home or left for work. They'd move their bodies to constantly be facing me, like they were watching and ready to strike at any time. Made me uneasy, to say the least.
At that point, I figured that it was only gonna get worse from here on out, so I picked up two cans of wasp killer just in case one wasn't enough. While I was at it, I decided to check my back porch, which I hadn't used in months cause it was cramped and kinda dumpy. Once I opened the back door, I looked up at the light fixture and saw another nest, so I'm glad I bought two. I quickly sprayed both nests and then shut the door to hide inside.
Just before sunset, I poked my head out to see and the nest on the front porch appeared empty. The one on the back porch, though, none of them were harmed at all. I began to spray again, but watched them this time, and saw them all climb up the nest and onto the back of the top of it, which was protected from the spray. I simply changed angles and it them this time, making sure that I got them all. Upon that realization, though, I thought to check the front porch again, where I saw just one wasp left, back at work trying to build it up more. It was not spared.
It’s always a good day when I get to hear a “Rhea the Reee” 🐦🖤💛🐝
bro talking to the squirrel has the potential to be a cartoon voice actor lmao
Hello from insanely hot Florida. Thanks for a new video! ❤❤
Very cool-looking nest!!
Yay, a new H.K. video! My weekend has been made!
wowwww i never knew BFH were yellow jackets amazing coool i love yer menagerie of chickens and emus cuteee
When they started coming out of the hive en mass when you began vacuuming made me blurt out "oh crap" and all I could think about was running away.
The way you sais squirrel! 😂
2:00 Always remember to bring a towel!!
Brilliant as always.
Nice!
Good to see you!
Greetings from Albany, GA
Dude...love your videos right up to the weird baby talk you do with the animals. LOL
That was an unusual looking nest. You are the Hornet King!
Nice job! It's that time of the year! Thanks!
Those are some well-fed animals. The nutrition must be really good.
I want these by every door in my house.
Imagine someone trying to break in and ya poke this thing from inside your house.
Great removal!
so fun to watch!
Great vids
Awesome video
Sauron has come back for the ring & his nazgul Generals 😂😂😅
Nice
Loved it! ✌️😎
Nice work
this is awesome we have been watching since the begining of your channel
Looks quite possible that the spire at the top of this nest is for heat control/ventilation...
Maybe, like a chimney
Possibly, but then why do 95% of them build on the side of the structures that get hit with the most direct sun & heat? They need the warmth to incubate their eggs & larvae. I think they keep building because as the colony grows, so does the nest & they take that pre collected envelope & expand the nest. They make several layers of envelopes as insulation, like you said, but also to remove from the inside as they expand the nest & rebuild the envelope even bigger on the outside. This year they are thriving up north & I have already removed 17 from softball to 5gal bucket size nests.
Haven't seen anything from you for awhile. Nice to see you again ❤
I love watching you take down the nest but I love the way you talk to the animals too
I can't wait for the longer videos! I've been having hornet king withdrawals!
I think that upper portion is built to aid in airflow to facilitate cooling.
The baby talk 😂🥹
a rare find indeed
Really like your content, subbed!
There's a possibility that this spire design creates a stack-effect that causes the rising warm air to create a natural draft that helps to cool the nest.
lt is good to see you back my friend and thanks.....
Old nasty stinky flying Shoe🇺🇸
Wow they look frightful. I'd hate to get stung by one .😮
BRO I MISSED U SO MUCH
Where was he?
Isn't it funny how most of us imagine that same sort of voice for little mammals. It's like this shared idea that we all have.
feels illegal to be this early to the hornet king
In Oregon where I live I destroyed a Vespula alascensis nest that was the the size of a football in the ground. This is going to be a long wasp season.
I mowed over a yellow jacket nest yesterday that I didn’t know was there never seen activity there, only got stung once thankfully but not it very active
It's huge.😳
See folks, 2:21, this is why you don’t bag a nest and just leave, cause there are returning foragers that are coming back from foraging.
Is it me,, or are there a ton of bald face hornets this year?
That’s not a unicorn, that’s the dark lord Sauron
Good video. So nice to see the animals. How long have u had the 🐿️
Yikes!❤❤
the horn looks like a draft air ventilation....
as heat inside the nest rises it goes up the horn and vents out of the openings on the horn
just an educated guess, since the whole family is known to make ventilation like this, for example ants and termites
beautiful nest but once they start attacking people, they have to go...thought i was going to have to get the Hornet King on a trip to central NY for a yellow jacket ground nest buried around a tree stump and had at least 3 entrances....after some high potent sprays, the numbers disappeared but these had to be the most non-aggressive yellow jackets I have ever seen...i was expecting them to come flying out in numbers but either I got them at a good time or the nest wasn't as big as I thought or it was in the early building stages and the numbers weren't up yet...anyway, I got all my tips from your channel and it only took me 20 bucks worth of sprays to take care of the problem
I just got stung by yellowjackets today. About 15 - 20 stings.
Given the amount of holes in the spire vs the main envelope, I wouldn't be surprised if they engineer that as a ventilation chimney to promote hot air flowing out and letting cool air draw in. Do you only see unicorn nests when they are flush under a hard surface? On a tree, by contrast, they can let it have that football shape....
Do you think they build the spires because they’re trying to extend & build around the shape of the building? Only thing that makes sense to me. They’re little architects building around the buildings.
I can imagine those Yellowjackets are common all across America.
Baldicorns
Hey man, got a question, have you ever dealt with warrior wasp nest? If not, would you be able to do the removal with your gear or would you need more special and safer gear. Im asking cause i heard that they are so agressive and painful.
Do you think the spire is made to provide additional protective layers to the envelope covering the comb that isn't underneath the roof? Interesting structure.
Ostriches now simply swallow the whole nest pieces.
Is it a Unicorn? Or is it something else if you catch my drift… 😂
Hey buddy
I hope you can find a squirrel to mate with Squirrel!
Shame the yellowjackets weren't smart enough to figure out that the understand the people weren't going to hurt them, otherwise they'd have kept living.
Do you know what the ones by the entrance were doing flapping their wings just sitting there? spreading pheromones or trying to cool down the nest or something?
It’s called fanning, and they do it to cool the colony down.
👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎✌✌✌✌
And they say Unicorns don't exist.
Edit: Hello from the Polistes ruled state of Texas.
Hello😅
I wonder... Considering how hot the weather has been, could that horn be for ventiliation, similar to a termite mound?
Would the spire be to shed water from the part of the envelope that extends beyond the eve?
Is it possible that they make the nest like that to help dissipate the heat?
Are you worried that the paper from the nest might be made from things the wasps get that aren't safe for your animals to eat?
I would never be that brave to do that, oh and what happens to the hornets do you take them to the wild?
@Hornet King Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm curious why you don't do any nighttime removals? From what I understand, wasp and hornets return from foraging at night, and most if not, the whole population would be in the nest asleep or non-active?
Should have played the Gundam Unicorn theme
For this year.
I wonder if that spire allows them to regulate the temperature/ humidity inside the nest?
Anyone knows?
Do they make something delicious? Label your vacuum "H" just to be sure.
So do all the dead hornets sucked up become compost?
Kinda looks like the Mouth of Sauron
Hornet King I have been hearing about alot of heatwaves nationwide. How hot is it in your neck of the woods? Also does the heat make the yellow jackets and hornets extra aggressive?
Do you put anything in your hoover before getting them? I work doing pest control in the uk and never thought about using a hoover for wasps 😂
Do you have any content on relocations or keeping them as pet wasps?
Do dragonflies eat yellowjackets and hornets like they do bees?
