That was sublime, the bass was just outstanding. Sandy would be delighted, Simon's guitar was lovely. Thank you.

This is the perfect speed for this song. Oh if Sandy Denny was singing it !! But this is an excellent version, and none of the boredom associated with groups playing the same stuff for 40 years !! Beautiful.

How often she has gazed from castle windows all
And watched the daylight passing within her captive wall
With no one to heed her call
The evening hour is fading within the dwindling sun
And in a lonely moment, those embers will be gone
And the last of all the young birds flown
Her days of precious freedom, forfeited long before
To live such fruitless years behind a guarded door
But those days will last no more
Tomorrow, at this hour, she will be far away
Much farther than these islands, for the lonely Fotheringay

This is an excellent performance of this iconic song that somehow merged the old with the emerging new back in the day when Fairport Convention, along with Fleetwood Mac and other innovative bands brought a transcendental presence to an idealistic age, at least for some of us who had a dream, as Joni sang about Woodstock. I am not the nostalgic type, and that is why I appreciate what Simon Nichol, Dave Pegg, and Fairport do here playing "Fatheringay".

@@Notmehimorthem I envy you! Growing up in California, I was first turned on to Fairport when a friend of mine loaned me his copy of Liege and Lief, which had just come out. Later I got the "Sandy" album, which I still have, and fell deeper in love with her work. Decades later I saw a later version of Fairport when they opened for Jethro Tull on the Crest of a Knave tour, with Dave Pegg doing double duty as bassist in both bands! Anyway, thank you for sharing... I've recently been rediscovering both Ms. Denny and the band through CZcams, and the wealth of great music they created. Cheers!

C.A.T. I still feel their best album was What we did on our holidays. Have you checked that out. I was in London during the sixties it was so easy to find good music. Down the road about a mile away in The Roundhouse Pink Floyd often played, there were the first light shows. Fleetwood Mac too with Peter Green. Many other excellent bands too many to mention. We were so lucky, these were times of hope and optimism. I also saw BbKing and Chuck Berry in the Country club.
