- With Manhattan traffic potentially worse than ever and a second phase now targeting and fining recent model cars for their emissions, Eyewitness News went to London to see how their city fared with congestion pricing.
Moving forward is what the city of London promised it would do in 2003.
With great fanfare, it launched what it called its congestion charge, which uses a network of cameras and plate readers to toll every vehicle passing into the city center.
Their hope was to tackle the endless procession of traffic, one of London's most persistent problems.

It is better to lower the rail and any other transport fare charge so that commuters can be less financial difficulties.
Rail fare is too high , need to get down.
NYC subway is cheaper than driving bro
@@fredstanley419 Yeah but LIRR and metro north is too expensive
It’s called an MTA Congestion tax for a reason. Keyword MTA.
$2.90 is dirt cheap and you get free transfers. MTA is the cheapest transportation system in the world
how about NY spend some money fixing cities upstate and creating high speed trains like they have in japan, connecting them to NYC. This would actually help to boost the whole states economy, and offering lower cost housing solutions, 'Live in Troy, NY and work in NYC."
The trains in Japan work because they are not operated by the city but owned by private companies. When the government runs something there is no incentive to thrive because it's not their money that is lost.
@@user-vf6ru8gm9p good point
@@user-vf6ru8gm9plook at European countries or China, it can work
@@user-vf6ru8gm9palmost every other country I can think of that has high speed rail is almost always nationalized
I don’t think the residents of Troy want an influx of city commuters
if you aint disabled or got actual business involving moving product , you really shouldn't be driving in London , its cheaper and faster to ride the tube in normal times , covid times it was well quiet in july when we visited
Biased journalism? How about actually comparing the details of two plans? Manhattan's zone is surrounded by large rivers mostly, so geography itself may reduce the congestion seen in London near the borders.
yeah, right. it will do nothing but feed the city's insatiable greed
@@kingsittystudios2400 yeah right, people in cars never want to pay for anything they use, whether it's storing their pollution boxes, or driving at the busiest times when the roads are already clogged.
Paying money to sit on the subway with bums is crazy
paying $20,000 for a car to sit in traffic is crazy
Londeners don't hate congestion pricing. Only entitled car owners hate. Most londneners use piblic transportation.
This is incredibly biased reporting why didn't you talk about how congestion charging improved public transportation and bicycle infrastructure.
It’s coming now
So the only difference it has done is made Tfl richer and motorists poorer. Great idea!!!
In NY more people would use plate flippers
It’s for GREED at this point.
it's about reducing traffic, allowing the public street to flow more efficiently. Personal car use is a privilege, not a right.
@@streetsareforpeople723 it doesn’t work. You just saw the video in London.
@@nathanielsingleton6302They will watch a video showing you it doesn’t work and still try to argue. If it was about reducing traffic and not money, why not ban cars? They don’t even realize their groceries have to come in by truck but I’m sure that is okay. Maybe they want it walked or biked in.
@@nathanielsingleton6302Do you know how much bike infrastructure and public transportation has improved due to congestion charging?
Personal car riding is a priveledge . On the other hand public transportation is a right.
@@FakeOutragedThey don't charge for congestion the trucks that operate at night.
It woukd have been better to test out in the city with the most traffic... Washington DC
which politician do we rip off without a sidearm?
MONEY GRAB!!!!
Mta gonna be rich
We not London.
good to implement this incredible policy to address the condition of too many cars.
if there's still congestion, it suggests the price is not high enough
Dear Engr.
Good evening. This is Ariston Jr. R. Gorospe. the Author of Vehicular Brand Volume Reduction or Brand Coding.
I incidentally read your article about
“Out-of-the-Box” Solution to the Traffic Congestion in Metro Manila
“Some have suggested” according to USCAP“to use the vehicle type as the base for restrictions: no Toyotas on Mondays, no Hondas on Tuesday... Is it feasible? Toyota is largely dominant. A Toyota ban on some days would create a huge uproar. Would it also apply to ubiquitous Toyota taxicabs?”
THIS IS JUST TO SUMMARIZE THE CONCEPT POLICY VBVR
My answer,
Yes, it is feasible. Since I am the author of vehicular brand volume reduction or brand coding I have the mechanics on how to reduce car reduction by 45% on the road particularly at EDSA and to another thoroughfare on segregation of mixed dominant car brand per day .in 5 or even in 7 days through vehicular brand segregation reduction of the total car LTO registered based on allowed ratio kilometers .you can not do the concept by just one brand per day .but by of mixed segregation of dominant brand example if you have one brand like BLUE MAX AUTOMOBILE registered consist of ten thousand cars at NCR registered divided by 5 is 2k per day and other mixed car brand added segregate them again in one box per day on a number of units together with another brand you have a total volume segregated in five working days and car that are not ban to travel by segregation will have a window hour travel time if you have a total 20 thousand cars if you plan to have a segreation of banned cars of 45% on the road you will have widen the space to travel in a peak hour however never used the brand name but ont 5 colors different conductive sticker for the reason of monitoring and control of the growing numbers on travel time per day. and
Taxicabs and other public transportation will still be color-coding of MMDA.
Hope to hear from you and let's talk about it.
Stay safe.
Best regards,
Ariston Jr. R. Gorospe

this is the worst idea ever,
*best idea ever. too many people drive, it's just, fair to expect them to pay more for this. Too many cars are on the roadway, that is traffic congestion. Money for MTA is a bonus.
Best idea ever. Cycling infrastructure has grown rapidly due to this. Also public transportation has grown too
it’s there for the city to loophole charges
it's there for the city to address the condition of too many cars.
sad that’s what’s going to happen in NYC a lot of taxi drivers are going to lose money along with small businesses even might lose there business too
Im from the uk this stuff is evil, the act of having to pay it every day takes time out your day it makes you feel not free
relying on government subsidized roads and gas companies supplying fuel ain't free bud. Take away any of them and you're in your own prison if you don't have alternatives.
@@cboyardee no.. i mean freedom kind of free
Every day logging onto a site to pay for driving, and they also start control what kind of car you can drive
Id actually rather pay slightly higher taxes vs that because it’s not all up in your life every day having to think of it, like it dents even a nice day
@@cboyardee in london they found by getting rid of all the poor people they reduce emissions making them all have to have a near new car of a spec (which they cant afford obviously)
This is made by a billionaire stockbroker this law 😆
Most of them new cars are small feminine looking that all break after 3 years, overpriced kitchen appliances
May be you should use public transportation like majority of londeners.
Cycling is also a good idea.
@@JSM-bb80u so you think it’s great other peoples norms getting ruined because it pushes your thing
That’s like the opinion of a 5yr old where everything should be biased for the thing you like. and being antagonising and toxic to people that aren’t doing your thing
I don’t want to ruin bikes boats whatever I just want to chill and exist basic freedom
😂😂😂😂 the mta ceo just want his bonus because he know an audit coming soon . If the mta goes into bankruptcy again.
hahahahah
So technically this is insanity. It has been tried before in a major city and has failed yet NYC is going to do the same thing and hope for a different result. Insanity.
exactly bass ackwards. Technically NOT implementing an effective policy to solve traffic congestion (too many cars) is insanity, doing the same thing over and over---is what NYC and cities have been doing, until London, now NYC. Was rollout and current policy perfect in London? no there are fixes that can help. remove the exemptions for black cabs (must have a big lobby there), allow transition zones of half rate pricing, so it's not such a sharp change to the "free" areas, among other changes.
@@streetsareforpeople723 Streets Are For People In Cars.
@@streetsareforpeople723im from uk it’s bad they learned people didn’t complain so are doing it everywhere now, and your left are way more pushy than ours so it will probably be worse there
You know you have to log in a site to pay it? imagine having to do that every day, they are looking at number plates for your bicycle now too in uk to charge them
Don’t let this one in..
