America needed a national hero. In the movie, Walking Tall, Hollywood introduced us to Tennessee's crime-busting sheriff, Buford Pusser. Richard & Gary offer 40 year-old tape recordings by Buford's deputy and friend to help tell the story behind the movie.

Sheriff Pusser was elected three times. Each term of Office was for two years and he severed as Sheriff from 1964-1970.

He was also a constable before and after he was sheriff. He was the chief of police of Adamsville when he was first elected constable.

They couldn’t have driven 100 mph that morning, i’ve been on New Hope rd many times and there’s no way anyone could drive 100 mph on that road today …much less in 1967. However i get your sentiment, a lot of people question Buford’s account of what truly happened that day.
The State of Tennessee recently exhumed the remains of Pauline. Hopefully before long we will have an accurate account of what really happened to Pauline Pusser. I’m looking forward to having some answers.

Buford just killed the ones that refused to pay, but unfortunately him and Pauline were “separated” but still living together the night “she was ambushed” there was no such car with “no headlights”
