Last week, we heard the horrific details of an ambush that gravely wounded Sheriff Buford Pusser and killed his wife. The event became the climactic scene in the movie, Walking Tall.
Tonight, Richard & Gary will explore Buford's shoot-out with local organized crime figures which led to that ambush -- and also possibly to the fatal car crash that eventually took his life. Buford's deputy, Pete Plunk, joins the car crash narrative via a recorded interview with Richard.

I never thought his Car Crash was an accident...the book his daughter wrote "Walking On"....explained her father fatal crash at the end of her book!
I think it was murder. I can't believe he was that unlucky. 8 gunshot and 7 knife wounds and an accident killed? BS. He was murdered!
Great interview. I always thought his death was a car accident but after yr interview not so sure. Saw Walking Tall at my local theatre the line was around the block to get in.
I read PUSSER had just auditioned to play himself in Walking Tall Part 2 a few days before he died and the production company liked it and agreed to him starring in the film.
Such an interesting story of a true American hero.
This video is FULL of misinformation. Mostly, Louise wasn't shot in the neck twice. There wasn't a entry in her neck at all. There was an exit wound though. The first bullet hit her just under the armpit in the back, the second one also hit her in the back. Then while she was already on the floor, he shot her in the jaw, killing her. Look at her autopsy report, it's out there. Secondly, Buford didn't chase the "shooters", he was trying to outrun them, hence the second "ambush" site. Third, I doubt if Louise and Carl would've got away with hammering that many people without getting caught. Just the clean up alone wouldn't have been worth it. And lastly, I'm not so sure about Buford being shot and stabbed as many times as he claimed. Nobody ever got arrested for shooting or stabbing him. There are no medical records of him being treated except for the "ambush" wounds. People just believe the Hollywood build up and don't research for themselves.
He was shot in the face at least one other time. There is a picture of him laying in bed with a bandage on his jaw with Pauline sitting on the bed beside him.

Richard I would like to share my side of the Buford Pusser story to you in person.
I owned a 68’ corvette similar to Bufords’ back in the 70’s. At high speeds , it would literally start to float because it was nothing but engine weigh surrounded by light fiber glass. Buford more than likely “took air” going too fast and his Vette more than likely flew across the median and smashed into that little hill. Corvettes back then we’re WAY TO LIGHT for excessive speeds. Air would get under them and off you would go.
Did you own your corvette while making only $615 a month though?
I own a 1979 Red Corvette, what I want to know is how Buford actually fit in it. I am 6' 3" and my knee rubs against the turn signal lever. What you have to know, is if you don't know Corvettes, they have a strange steering system, they use a hydraulic piston to help steer, and trust me, they are one real headache, Leaks and such. I know how easy it would be to sabotage that steering system, all you really would have to do, is reach under with a 3/4 inch wrench and unscrew the tie rod end bolt.
I believe it was sabotaged too. I am certain he didn't murder Pauline as well.

The Stateline mob was no longer active when he died. Why would anyone affiliated with it waste their time bumping off an EX sheriff?? It was an accident pure and simple.
Just because he wasn't sheriff anymore doesn't mean he didn't still have enemies
