  • What's going on everyone hope you are having a great weekend, here is another XR250 rebuild video to make Sunday even better! In the episode I rebuild the rear shock and repair the air box which had two large cracks on the air boot. I made some mistakes and learned a ton about vintage shocks with this rebuild so I am thankful for that. Not to much more to do to this old XR after this but unfortunately I am unable to do any physical work right now due to my knee surgery I am currently recovering from. So.. It will be awhile before the next one.
    Checkout the newest XR50 project bike here: • "Bad Weather" 2020 Chi... x
    This pit bike is going to be the focus of the channel and I plan to challenge myself even more on this one!
    I will continue this XR250 mini series on the side and hopefully I can finish it up in 2-3 more episodes for those who are digging the vintage bike content!
    As always thanks to everyone who keeps coming back for more FTF videos, and thanks to the new subscribers just finding the channel. I promise I got big things coming with this 50 build so stay tuned and see ya next time! -Mike

    Best video on this, my last thing I have to do on my 83 cr125 and I never messed with shocks on a bike. I have rebuilt several classic cars but that was before ptsd cooked my brain. This video gives me a bit of confidence, thanks buddy.

      It really isn't that bad, just follow the steps and you should be able to get it done! I have built around 6 shocks now. Any questions just let me know 👍and I appreciate the comment

    Good job! I will be rebuilding the rear shock for my 1982 XR500R. I looked everywhere for the oil seal but still nothing. I will probably rebuild it as you did, and hopefully, there are no leaks. Keep it up, looking forward to see the final result

      Thank you, yes the parts are impossible to source but if you are lucky the seal can be reused as I did. It does not leak, it is installed on the bike and it works. Final results soon!

    Bro the video was great 👍🏻 but your shock assembly was not right , before you insert the nitrogen bladder into the fluid reservoir first you should fill the shock body AND the fluid reservoir with shock fluid , fill slowly ( so no bubbles form) with enough fluid so it over flows as you insert the bladder first and same when you insert the piston head last , flip the shock over so the bleed bolt is at the highest point remove bolt and insert a threaded funnel and fill half way with shock fluid , pump the shock shaft in and out while observing for any air bubbles rising into the funnel when no bubbles are visible remove funnel and replace bleeder bolt , the shock is now ready to be recharged with nitrogen ( 150psi) , the enemy of a shock absorber is air in the fluid ! Hope this helps . ps ( do not use air in the reservoir bladder as it will expand and burst from heat when riding )

    Do you have a service manual for this bike(preferably in pdf) having a problem getting it started and comp is good and she’s getting fuel. Has spark but think it might be weak so replacing today. Also possibly timing issues but can’t find proper timing for the bike

  • @11GalleryATV

    Do you have any pressure in the remote reservoir bladder when inserting the seal head into the main shock body?

    • @FULLTHROTTLEFILMZ
      @FULLTHROTTLEFILMZ  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, around 40 psi just enough to fill the bladder and displace the air and oil around it in the reservoir if that makes sense

    • @FULLTHROTTLEFILMZ
      @FULLTHROTTLEFILMZ  Před 3 lety +1

      Sometimes you will need to release the pressure to fully insert the seal head if it won’t go in

    • @11GalleryATV
      @11GalleryATV Před 3 lety

      @@FULLTHROTTLEFILMZ Thanks! I couldn't tell from the video if you had pressure or not ... yes, that makes perfect sense to "over inflate" the bladder, per say.
