    Welcome to Australia,
    Here we supply you with unusable wifi that you need to pay 60$ a month for. Also included in the pack are regular 14 day day wifi cut-outs that you don't get compensation for and ALSO we give you great customer support that wastes your time while not fixing the problem. Blitzing Speeds below:
    download: 0.2 megabytes
    upload: 0.05 megabytes
    ping: 5000ms-10000ms
    Enjoy flushing your 60$ down the drain every month because the only things you can do are watch 144p videos that buffer every 5 seconds and also web browsing. ENJOY.

      I must say, I'm on TPG HFC 100/40, and although it's pricey at $100 per month, it's awesome. Even during peak periods I'm getting around 60-70mbps, and off-peak it's pretty close to the advertised speed. The uploads are particularly noticeable, as I'm a musician and often share files.
      What sucks is that this is not the norm, and that's outrageous. I have a friend in a well-developed (and relatively new -- ie maybe 20 year old) area whose 'net is so poor that if another family member uses it all while he streams video, the stream drops. Crazy.

    I have worked with over a dozen different internet providers and thousands of consumers and in my professional experience this video is not entirely accurate, primarily because you will not receive the full speed you are paying for with many cable providers dependent on whether that company uses dedicated lines or not. Many companies are built on a broadband network, the service will essentially be shared with your neighbors and the network has busy times usually between 3pm-10pm. My professional opinion will be listed below.
    Email and basic browsing: 1-6mbps (1-2 people simultaneously)
    Any standard definition streaming: 12-18mbps (1-2 people simultaneously)
    Any high definition streaming: 18-50mbps (1-4 people simultaneously)
    Video gaming/Streaming: 50+mbps (1-4 people simultaneously)
    The technology for faster speeds are available in a majority of densely populated cities and are priced fairly relative to the expenses needed to set up the cable/fiber optic lines. Satellite internet service will always be much more expensive and will typically come with a low-ball cap to the amount of data available monthly, so avoid it when at all possible. If you run a VPN, I'd recommend over 100mbps/100mbps at minimum, but whatever works best for your budget and service needs is really going to be at your discretion.

    • @augia5051
      @augia5051 Před 5 lety

      Walt of All Trades because all the data is sent to the vpn servers first to be encrypted, then sent to whatever server you're reaching and vice versa. Also the vpn server you're using is most likely in a different country

    Definitely agree; more than 25 mbps is virtually unnecessary. I'd probably be considered to be a "power user", but I manage to survive with a 24 mbps connection. However, what _really_ pisses me off (particularly with AT&T), is the _upload_ speed. 2 mbps. That's truly pathetic. Almost unbearable for a content creator.

    When you have to download a 50GB game......... :( You might need more than 25Mbps for that. 50 GB = 400,000Mb. 400,000 / 25 = 16,000 seconds. 16,000 seconds = ~266 minutes = ~4.5 hours.

Then I have my mom always on the internet, such as yahoo, youtube, facebook, twitter, and cookie clicker all at the same time, just for her business. Glad you brought up the per user thing. That is often overlooked. Another critical thing in my opinion is the number of wifi-connecting devices on that network as well. While mobile devices don't use a lot all the time, there are times they can, but they are almost always using a little. This will only get more important to consider as the "Internet of things" becomes more of a household standard..

I have myself and my parents in the house, we all watch CZcams and sometimes watch BBC iPlayer as well as surfing the internet. I had 2 options, stick with my 5 Mb download or upgrade to the faster FTTC BT Infinity option. So, I went for the Infinity option which now gives me a download speed of 38 Mb which is great for 3 people, no problems with buffering anymore like I used to have if I was watching HD CZcams and my dad was trying to watch BBC iPlayer.

    Very good video. I always wondered what speed I really needed. I have FIOS...speed test shows....31 Mbps (download).....52 Mbps (upload). There's usually just 2 of us here and we use the internet basically for browsing/streaming. Rarely do any downloading, never do any uploading. Based off of what you said in the video, it sounds like I could probably downgrade my internet package (fortunately, I'm able to choose between different internet packages).

  • @johncall6137
    @johncall6137 Před 5 lety

    Also partially depends on the technology. With cable where your connection is shared with neighbors, you don't often get the full bandwidth you think you're paying for in this age of streaming, it's more of a "burst" than an "average" or "expected" measurement. In such a circumstance I would usually recommend 100-150 Mbps if you can afford it.

    My deal is this: I have Comcast economy internet, 3mbps. I have my computer and an second ethernet cable going to a DISH Wally box to get the interactive TV, including the local weather forecast. My internet will not support both. When the DISH interactive service WAS working a few nights ago, my internet would not even pull up. When Comcast sent a signal to my modem, my internet worked but the DISH interactive service dropped. Simple question please, what speed of internet do I need to support both of these services, my internet and DISH interactive service? Thank you so VERY much!!!

    I had a 100/10 plan with Comcast that cost about $54 per month. I frequently download HD movies and television shows. Some of those movies can run as high as 7-8 gig each. My internet connection was actually around 118Mbps down so my downloads were capped at around 14.7 Mb/s. With this speed and an excellent connection to the download server I was getting movies downloaded in about 8-12 minutes with 720p television shows taking around 1-4 minutes depending on size. I have a lot of downtime for work in the form of traveling from job to job with some drives taking 2 hours or more. Fortunately I have Xfinity mobile which is really just Verizon with unlimited data so if I run out of movies or shows on my phone I can just stream youtube. I wanted to get my downloads done a lot quicker so I upgraded my modem and my service to 250Mbps which in reality is 277Mbps. With this speed my Ultra HD movies now only take 3-5 minutes with television shows taking 0:23-1:39 each. I am very happy with this upgrade as it allows me to pick what I want in the morning, start the download, get ready for work and by the time it's time to leave my downloads are all done. On my old 10Mbps plan I had about 4 years ago with most HD files capped at 2gig each it still took over 30 minutes per file. This was terrible at the time. I might actually upgrade to 1Gbps which they offer in my neighborhood for only $40 more per month than the plan I have now. My uploads will still be capped at 35Mbps and if I needed more I would need to go to the 2Gbps-down/2Gbps-up plan which costs $300/month with a two year contract. Fortunately I don't do too much uploading so I currently don't need these speeds. I would reccomend to anyone that downloads files over 1Gigabyte to at the very minimum get the 100/10 plan which I believe is actually now 150/10 for only $55/month it's only $15 more than the 60Mbps plan at nearly 3 times the speed. In my area for home use the slowest plan available is the 60Mbps plan at $40/month. Business plans are much different though with the cheapest business plan being 10/1 at arount $60/month.
