    What Jeff actually said "Denny is trying to do things to stir up conversation, to get people at least having an opinion. Whether it’s a positive or negative one, you at least have an opinion. And the fact that he’s embracing that, I will give him kudos all day long. Go for it.”... and THEN responded to the question asked saying that although he likes what Denny is doing, it would not work for how they run HMS.

    • @csi2448
      @csi2448 Před 10 měsíci +2

      Thank you for this!!! You seem to be about the only one who gets it. Jeff was just telling you how things are done at HMS. He could care less how things are done anywhere else.
      And let's be real now, drivers having no personality or too much personality doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things. The popularity wave/bubble popped a long time ago, and it's never gonna get anywhere close to that level of popularity again. NASCAR just isn't something a lot of people care about these days. It's just the sad reality

    I’m glad this is a conversation we’re having now because the drivers just feel so generic and boring, not all of them but a majority of them. The only time you see a driver have some sort of personality is when they get wreck and get angry, you can’t relate to any driver when all they can do is thank their sponsors 20 times in an interview and say the corporate line so to speak.

    I agree with some of what Denny's saying, but here's the thing. Denny let's things get to him and that's part of the reasons he hasn't won a championship yet. Quit worrying about what the fans think and go take care of business out there. That's a reason Jimmie Johnson is a seven time champ. Same with Dale Earnhardt Sr, etc.

    I agree with Denny. The thing I want to point out is Ross Chastain was having his best season until after the first Darlington race where him and Larson got into it. Then Hendrick called him and then the 1 car fell off the map. I think Ross and Justin Marks needs to tell Hendrick to go f*** themselves. It's between the drivers, if someone wanted to stop Chastain they should have stepped up and no one wanted to. So the almighty Hendrick spoke and the 1 car slowed down. He went from creating stories and building his character in the sport to being a mid field racer. He got the one win, but he wasn't the same driver after the first Darlington race, I want old Ross back. NASCAR isn't F1, I think some people like Jeff Gordon forgets. Gordon never carried NASCAR on his back, that was the Petty's and Earnhardt's. They had a strong character and they created legendary stories.

    I was a diehard Gordon fan and I HATE his take.
    It isn't 2000 anymore. We can't rely on sponsors to showcase/advertise the drivers. They're terrible at that and it's a big reason why fans have been turning off the channel the past 20 years.
    The fans don't wanna see that. We wanna see the drivers be REAL people

    I have to agree with Denny on this. Everybody remembers the drivers from the past that expressed their opinions on whatever. From Earnhardt Sr, Smoke, DW, Wallace, the 2 Busch's and every other controversial personalities. Whether you liked or hated them, these drivers are what made NASCAR popular. Now days, because of sponsor's political correctness, you can throw all these drivers in a hat and draw out a name and you can't tell one from the other. Post race interviews, every single driver has the same scripted response. Have all these VANILLA drivers isn't going to grow the sport.

    I agree with Denny's overall point that we need more outspoken and exciting drivers. I disagree that it is NASCAR officials or rules holding the drivers back. I think Denny is still mad that he got penalized for admitting to needlessly driving Chastain into the wall on purpose. I think the problem is the culture NASCAR has built over several decades. There have always been a handful of firey drivers but mostly the NASCAR culture has been (keep your head down, thank your sponsors, and behave like a middle aged executive at a board meeting). That way we end up with more Matt Kenseth personalities and less Tim Richmond personalities. You can't go wrecking guys on purpose and bragging about it on a podcast but there is a middle ground between that and Chase Elliott pretending he has no clue who Kyle Larson even is after their pit road incident. It can't be all or nothing.

It's easy to be the villain when you're on top. When things are going well. But when you get beat, then you have to get used to being hit while you're down, and do it as a professional. Meaning you just have to take it. And it will unravel his team. I think Hamlin will not be on top ever again after this season.

    You're talking about the guy who is solely responsible for bringing Nascar to an international market so put some respect on his name first of all. You're entirely misinterpreting what he's saying. He wants drivers to be themselves whoever they may be. What he's criticizing is the distraction of playing a character to stir up controversy instead of focusing on racing. Chase Elliott is about as charismatic as a 2 x 4 piece of lumber yet he's the most popular driver in the sport by far and has incredible merchandise sales. He just races he's doesn't get caught up in all the BS you do.
