  • Hey everyone! In this episode we are on job number 7! This is our first house outside of Metricon - This time it is with Orbit Homes, who have given us a different style than what we are used to, including the two mitred piers at the front.
    It was a new challenge for me as a bricklayer, and I did the best I could, however the result could have been better.. like anything else in this business.
    It was definitely a learning experience, and I know I have many challenges to face in the future, both as a bricklayer and as a businessman. This will continue on as I progress with this business in the future.
    Without further ado, welcome to a new episode, and if you like what you see in this one, make sure you subscribe as we are bringing content to you weekly!

      I've heard a lot about this brick cutter gig! I was meaning to try it on my 3rd job but never got around to it. Could be worthwhile getting them to cut all the sills/splits too. Only one way to find out!

      @@bricksbyty yeah mate it saves heaps of time, if I have brittle bricks I get all the sills cut too. Just splits cost about 100 with sills 200. You’ll make the money back on time saved anyway.

    Good job and keep learning. Remember everyone starts somewhere. Try getting a saw that allows you to use water. The dust is really bad for your health.

  • @p.maesthetics7154
    @p.maesthetics7154 Před 2 lety +3

    Nice work,I see nothing gone wrong,it just takes time, nobody can come in and slap it up in 30 mins, although a brick saw would definitely help,you could have saved 70% of the time you spent cutting if you had one,saves the work of getting dusty and bending over to cut,and I'm pretty sure alot of these company homes require a saw that runs with continuous water flow...at least mine does..anyways catch you the next one!

    Man you are brave loading that up hahaha!
    Get a brick saw when you got the cash.
    And with those mitred bricks in every corner you had which you should of had like 8 of them - butter and stick them together first then let them go off on a flat surface for like 5 mins or so..
    then delicately lay them last ! way easier cause it’s like laying one brick If that makes sense.

      Im a bricklayer from England 👍 well done BTW on your first attempt...i remember once building a bungalow and front garden wall for a property developer....we had no solids and site so I put mitred tops on 4 piers on the garden wall he liked them that much that the next job was a huge boundary wall around the grounds of a huge new build house we ended up with 24 piers to build and he wanted a mitred top on every one!! I ended up making my own timber template out of ply it was 2 pieces of ply fixed together on a 90 degree twice then we just clamped it on the top of the pier making a square which would house our mitred bricks we had gauge marks on it aswell and diagonal dividers than slid in and out from corner to corner it was then just a job of filling it in giving it a couple of hrs to stiffen up then take it off and move to the next one while my mate pointed up job done 👍

    Nice job in the video I couldn't see anything wrong with the top you need to get a demo saw with a 14-inch blade so you can cut faster I've been using a Stihl ts420 for like the past 10 years maybe more so that is the one I would suggest

      Ts420 must have bit of kit for a bricklayer no faffing about with cables 125mm cut or there about 12inch blade no good to a bricky as it doesn’t catch right through to back of the brick even more so when diamond where’s. Mate I would’ve just cut the 16 small corner ones and the rest just square cut at 50-70mm and filled in with mortar or get the renderer to smooth out the top of the pier. No one ever going to jump up there and you’d save heaps of time. But brilliant work anyway.

    Tooling on your veneer at 30:40 looks like crap. Bond on house looks like crap also almost joint over joint.
