- Thirteen days to turn a beat up trailer into a covered wagon camper for under $1,000.
We took an old trailer and spent $814.70 to get the camper you see here. That includes new hubs, new tires, and new lights for the trailer. All the building material, window, and canvas tarp included. Plus the bed and a comfort fan.
Stuff we had: Old trailer, paint, tool box, some screws, hinges, and insulation (extra from our attic). - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I was thinking a good way to fasten the sides of the canvas would be to sew in a sturdy length of timber along the long edge of the canvas and use short ratchet straps to pull it down tight? Only needed on one side of course! I like the overhang over the door to keep rain out I assume! Maybe the front of the canvas woud be tidier with a bungee rope sewn into a seam too, like the original "Pioneers" wagons. Please accept these ideas as just that, they are certainly not meant as any form of critisism! I think your mini covered wagon is simply magic!!!
Rielly I love your covered wagon trailer to go camping in,it is beautiful and you and your friend did an awesome job building it to completion
Excellent build! One thing I wouldn't do, put a latch on it that someone can use to lock you in it! I know the top is just canvas, still....
What a super good idea! And with saying that, that gives me an idea for my little trailer. Thank you so much for the idea. I look forward to some future videos on how you use it. I also saw that it looked like that you could fold the two ends down. So that remains to be seen in future videos. How soon is the next one, hurry up! Thanks again for the video and the idea have a great day and stay safe and keep your powder dry and your camper dry!
I enjoyed watching this. Beautiful work.
Very nice build! I use good old canvas and rope as well, but for my bicycle caravan.
Thanks for showing, I’m going to make something similar, watching has helped me with a few things that I will need to do too, cheers
Wow... Amazing work. Looking great. Keep it up..
Great team work 👍
Thanks for sharing I really like this concept and build
Great work guys 👍😁❤️
A modern cover wagon great job ,enjoy!
Hi Reiley! Just wanted to let you know that your movie Gentle Ben got me really interested in animal and human interaction and I've been obsessed with animal films and documentaries ever since lol. Glad to see you are on youtube!
What a great idea! Thanks for sharing.
This is a fun watch. Thanks for posting it!
Awesome dude, thanks for posting!
Nice build! I bet lots of people will comment while on your trips.
I think I need that Falcon!
I made something similar couple years back but taller I'm 5'3 so I could get dressed , like a gypsy wagon with canvas...but what I did was make the half round walls fold down, and up with laches like yours...take my bow supports off store on floor my bed went widthwise with storage under it..a bench seat small kitchette ,water storage and home compost potty...then my canvas treated w/ rubberized coating stretched acrossed pulled tight was flat and watertight streamlined shorter then my jeep ... I love ❤ your version too....
That sounds awesome!
You poop 💩 in the trailer? It sounds really nice 👌 though..
@@paulcook68 the word compost offend your delicate sensibilities...well get over it...no different then using a rv toilet and doesn't smell..
Bless your little heart!
@@sharongypsydove6080 Damn lady! I was just curious! 🖕
@@sharongypsydove6080 We have become so domesticated it’s a shame lol 😂 Poop in that trailer with confidence!!😂😜
Молодцы ребята! Привет из Владивостока!
Hello This is the very Good Trailer Projekt.😁😁😁😁😁
THAT.....IS.... AWESOME!!!!!!
Now that's team work for you!
Saw the video made me want one.
Quite simple and cute enough!
Very cool!
I want that green car next to the trailer your building LOL
AWESOME CAMPER
Love it!
Fantastic !!!!
Excellent!
Your amazing!!!
Love it 😍
Wow thats awesome
Didn't catch it but what are the hoops made of?
Excellent
Good luck.
Thamnk you!
Well done!!
Can you tell me why you didn't build it higher so you can stand up in it?
12:46 Best reward!!!
I'm glad you worked on it together. This is the kind of thing that makes marriages better!
@Jennifer Grove a few reasons. We had never done anything like this so we were trying to keep it simple. We didn't want to spend too much on materials. We wanted to keep it light weight so it could be towed by a car. We also didn't want a ton of drag while towing if the walls were much higher.
We were considering buying a tear drop trailer before, so we were fine without standing room. It was mostly about giving me a warmer place to sleep and having a fun project to do together. 😊
Only an idea but, if you find that the cover allows too much light and acts like a solar greenhouse, paint the inside and the outside white, using good exterior latex paint. It’ll darken things up considerably. Of course, any good paint job, inside and out, will block light and increase water proofing. Interior lighting will be more effective with the lighter color.
If you built it like a real one it would flaot like a boat !
Insulate the ends and then go with a single layer fabric roof ?
Nice job. 3 things that I would have done differently is to make the end cap bulkheads hinged so they could fold down in transit, add a window on the door and lay down insulation and flooring over the plywood trailer floor. Nothing that can't be done now.
I don't see what is holding up the middle of the roof. I can only see canvas seams on inside. Is this a magic trick you will never tell?
Definitely Doritos ! !
Epic Thumbs Up !
😇❤
Wow Cool !!!!
Parabéns!
EXCELENTE WARRIOR
I like the wagon wheel rims. What's the year and model of that old green car in the drive? Loving the dutch door.
68 Ford Falcon, but she's gone to another home now 😉
Modern wagon train
That is awesome! Really cool trailer 👌 And what kind of car is that little green one in the driveway? Is it like a 60s Ford or maybe a Corvair?
A 67 Ford Falcon
Where did you find the canvas I've been looking for some
Cool
How did the carpet work out?

6:56. Little ditty bout jack n Diane!, how 🤔 did that get past the music copyright???? Happy trails y'all
“Oh yea, Life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone.” I disagree. I still get a thrill when my baby says she loves me! 42 years married this September!
Long after the thrill of livin is gone! Rock on! Classic song 🎵 👌
I was watching *"Fully Charged"* yesterday and they had a guy on from Israel who was showing how they build Electric Vehicles. You should check it out. It's all a big long flat platform with some boxes by each wheel. That's it. So, you can build whatever you want on that platform!
Dude, I got hella thots!!!!...
How is it driving down the road? Do you have to tighten up the ropes very often?
When driving down the road the canvas and metal hoops break down and are stored in the trailer. We fold up the canvas and cover the whole trailer with a plastic tarp when driving down the road. The trailer tracks well and has no wind drag. It is great to tow.
I have noticed that I usually need to tighten the ropes after the first night of camping but then after that it is good.
I have to have me one of these...................................
I don't get the association of the thermal insulated walls and door with a canvas roof, it's like building a dam full of purposefully placed colander-like holes. This odd decision aside, it is a nice project.
The trailer is relatively narrow for my wife and I so I end up with my whole arm against the wall while sleeping so I wanted to cut down on as much thermal transfer in the wall.
How does it work for transporting down the road? I looks like maybe the top either folds down or is disassembled ?
Yes, the canvas, ribs, and end caps all come down and we store them in the trailer with our camping gear with a tarp on top.
Iv see on made with canvas cover and it leaked ,the person said should have used ,tarpaulin instead, but it looks great 👍
It's treated, so it is waterproof.
I used canvas on a project and I actually soaked it with fiberglass resin, which I applied with a roller and it never leaked, but it made it very ridged. It works well if it is staying in one spot..
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
💡👏
😂😆 I like it
How do you travel with it? With the tarp on?
The tarp, ribs, and end caps come off and store inside with gear for travel.
The baby girl Nova
I believe it is a Ford Falcon. Probably mid 60s
What is the hoops made of?
Steel rods a neighbor gave us. I believed they used them in their garden.
👍👍👍👍💓💓💓
You love working alone sometimes, do you?
You never said what you taught the canvas. 😂
Skykids brought me here

so, I can´t understand why is bottom half of camper termo-insulated (without vapor barier, OMG) and top half are only tarp where is absolutely not thermo-insulated...
Where we live is incredibly dry and it was just to prevent those moments when your body touches the trailer wall when you're sleeping and it's freezing -- now it's not 😊
I love how people who would never attempt this project criticize. I personally think you did a great job!
Enjoy the fruits of your labor and don’t let the idiot Troll’s comments bother you👍
@@kristinmcclendon2543 thank you for explain. So, I live at central Europe (CZ) , this kind of design is here not usable. Have a nice campings...
@@robarcia2328 So, You is right, I never build a camper- it´s not possible (street-legal) in my country :-( I have built only house with my hands, it take 2 years my free-time.
I was hoping you would finish it a bit better the canvas looks sloppy at the ends and I think you will find once you are towing it at speed shit will get messy and you will wish you put a ridge pole in
The canvas, ribs, and end caps all come down during transport.
@@kristinmcclendon2543 i did some thing similar with pvc pipes and chicken wire.. minus the fancy lower walls and dutch door. the pvc pipes were mounted similar to monkey hut construction.. using a center beam with ribs extending down and chicken wire to support a tarp in bad climate weather. used it as an off ground tentt to travel from new orleans to ohio when camp grounds were closed during pandemic.. rolled into a Loves covered with tarp set up camping cot and slept well in a rain storm.
Sorry the box on front does for me take away from the look perhaps a wooden chest might have looked better, just a subjective opinion not a criticism.
Just using what we already had, but a wooden box would look good 👍
The time lapse made me dizzy, would have enjoyed three or four episodes and get to know you! Otherwise the design seems good, but mostly a blend of puréed ideas…
same.
Comedy 🤣🤣😅😅
Midget house?
Lmao 🤣
tongue box does not match.
We kept cost down by using what we already had.
@@kristinmcclendon2543 Great job!! It looks good.
Nice but you can’t stand up in it.
Not tall enough to stand up in so ... dog house on wheels.
No its an extremely cool bed on wheels.
It is like a teardrop trailer. Just meant to sleep in.
Why do people ALWAYS build these so that you CANNOT stand up in it I do not understand why anyone would make it so short inside where your on your knees or sitting on your ass?? believe me if I was going to go through all that trouble I'd damn well be able to stand up in it!!
This is similar to the idea of a teardrop trailer. It is just meant to be a bedroom of sorts. By keeping the walls low, and having the removable top and end walls we were able to easily tow this without having to create something from more expensive/difficult materials to be able to tow at freeway speeds. Ultimately, it worked for us.
Hi, In the Holy Bible in Daniel 7:13-14 it says "I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. (14) And there was given him dominion and Glory and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve Him; his dominion is an Everlasting dominion, which SHALL NOT PASS AWAY, and His Kingdom that which shall NOT BE DESTROYED." God loves you so much that He sent His Holy Son Jesus from heaven to earth, to be born of a virgin, to grow up and die on a cross for our sins, and to be put into a tomb 3 days and rise from the dead the third day, and He (Jesus) went back up to heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, & abominable, & murderers, & immoral persons & sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire & brimstone..." Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus & put your true faith and trust in Him today & please repent. Will you have a Real encounter with Holy Lord Jesus and stay in a Genuine relationship with Him daily please?
Uummm... time and place error.
@@jjm9902 you're an error!! 🤣
No religion on a trailer build video! Come on! What if God is just a fictional character like superman?! You ever think of that?
@@paulcook68 Who created Superman??
Hey, G.Marie, when life gives you a good gut punch & your Jesus is nowhere 2b found, I hope your fall back to earth won't be too hard. ( You know, that artificial, " I'm better than you, " sanctimonious & condescending high that you're riding will hit you in the face some day.
💭 You don't have much of a life, do you? Leaving your loooong comments that nobody is reading. 🤣🤣🤣
