    No sympathy for the ref or VAR man! The push on Salah was two-handed, a clear foul and a penalty. The officials chose to ignore the foul before the ball driven into the net!

    • @Metallic_Hydrogen
      @Metallic_Hydrogen Před 6 měsíci +11

      They'll only count something like this as a foul if the player flops to the floor and rolls over a couple of times. They've made it so that simulation is necessary, because a foul isn't a foul unless players go to extremes to show one has been committed.
      Similarly for penalty decisions it seems. If you just show mild acknowledgement that you know a penalty incident has occurred, the on-field ref and VAR, will ignore you NB Salah when Odegard handled to bring the ball under control. But if your entire forward line gathers around the ref instantly with outrage - which should really bring bookings for all harassing players - a decision which wasn't given, will all of a sudden be awarded in complaining players favour NB Man City at Everton on Wednesday. VAR will then support the on-field decision.
      In short, if you play football the right way, you get penalised, and if you're a bunch of moaning diving s you'll do very well.

    Great video. I didn't know Tierney was at that match as a fan when Gerrard scored kissed the camera. Klopp was shouting 'always the same' to him when he blew for no reason on the Gakpo goal. Great point about the advantage he gave up when Burnley broke too.

      Honestly neither did I, was given to me by a sub, I'm thinking it might not be correct but from everything I know about Tierney, his age, his area, the size of Wigan when he was growing up (I actually grew up not too far from him and I'm a similar age), there's no chance he supported Wigan.

    From 18/19 and before, I think we all thought that the referee decisions came down to mistakes. The game had progressed and was now much faster than it was before. They had experimented with additional referees, but even still, they showed time and time again
    Big mistakes were being made. They needed help.
    VAR was supposed to do away with that. It was supposed to give them time, resources, and space to OBJECTIVELY see what they were missing before. This had to be it.
    2019/20. The first year. The rough edges were there for all to see. VAR was slow, cumbersome, and just seemed to get in the way a lot of the time. Fans were unhappy, but largely, it was doing pretty good. There are always going to be subjective decisions in the game, but many were being made, which seemed to be corredt where before they were weong. It annoying but we could let it slide because it's only the first season.........
    *4 Seasons Later*
    I. Am. Worried.
    This has gotten bad. This has gotten so bad. At the end of a game week before VAR, there would be a bad decision questioned. Maybe even 1 every second week. But now it's 3, 4, or 5 every single week. And the fact that they are so secretive and selective with their decisions especially when its the errors that are being made, they are so massive and so frequent, it has driven me to believe there is something more to it. This many referees can not make this many errors this frequently.
    Liverpool alone are -6 from VAR decisions already this season, and that doesn't count decisions like Luis Diaz goal, either of the 3 handballs not given against United, Arsenal, and Chelsea. If you were counting every major decision the PGMOL has had in a Liverpool game, you are easily talking about -12 NET decisions. We are only 19 games in......
    And what separates Liverpool from the other teams.
    Well, we have a manager who has openly criticised a particular referee. An ownership that has directly challenged the PGMOL, and a city which is uniquely distinct from the rest of the country for a lot of reasons. The head of the PGMOL is Howard Webb..... need i say more about that, the two referees in charge are from Greater Manchester and have had aggregious refereeing performances against Liverpool before and something is starting to add up here.
    This is a very one sided analysis, i am aware of that, but Liverpool have unquestionably had the worst decisions go against them this season, but that is definitely not to say they are the only ones.
    One of the unforseen consequences of VAR is it has now given the PGMOL power to unequivocally decide the fate of games. Before you could have decisions go your way, but it still needed to be made quite quickly and be evident to the naked eye. Now you can have a tiny handball be the reason the play is pulled back 5 minutes and the exact same kind of handball not be given for the opposite tewm in the exact same match.
    Its dangerous. We need transparency. We need to hear the audio in realtime. We do need VAR, but we need it to be better.

    Isn't it high time FIFA allowed ref's assistants ( a.k.a. the linesmen) to help the ref..? In American sports there are up to four refs (or umpires) on the field in American Footballl, on the rink in ice-hockey or on the court in basketball. Whenever a close call has to be made all the 'umps' have a conference at the touchline before their decision is made.

And I’ll never understand how Mo gets shoved forcefully towards the goal results in a whistle for goal interference. If that’s ok, then let’s just start shoving players every time your opponent kicks the ball. This seems to be a completely untapped tactic!

  • @senarphis
    @senarphis Před 6 měsíci +1

    I don't think that var is a bad idea, but I think it should be reformed. I think offsides should be checked following a goal every time. For me that was one area of the game that needed the certainty that a video replay gives.
    For all other potential offences, I think teams should have two 'challenges' per half, only useable by the team captain. If they challenge a refereeing decision, and it is found in their favour, then they keep their challenge. Challenge it and are found against, and they lose a challenge. Once they are gone, they are gone. The referee's on field decision is used unless a challenge is called, and var simply does not get involved unless a challenge is called.
    Not the perfect solution perhaps, but I think that it's time to ask if it is working properly in it's current form

    • @thetopfootycoach
      @thetopfootycoach  Před 6 měsíci

      I'm not a fan of the challenge system personally, I know it's used in the NFL for eg. I just think with the technology they have, the referees should just do their job better? I mean the tech is there to aid them, it's the fact they still get it wrong which is the problem

    I am going to be a contrarian and sort of back the referees....
    To be fair to them, it is a difficult job, as we all know footballers now are cheats and will blatantly kick a ball out of touch, claim it is their throw-in, and then give a linesman a mouthful when they give it the correct way.
    Even pundits nowadays will praise footballers for diving or pretending to be injured, saying they are "clever".
    At saying that, one of the advantages of VAR is that it does show how bad referees actually are.

    • @thetopfootycoach
      @thetopfootycoach  Před 6 měsíci

      I think its a really difficult job, of course I've come across many awful referees at lower levels but they don't have the benefit of technology like those at the top level. Conversely I've come across some really top notch referees at lower levels, who you can tell have played the game and they manage the games well (rather than controlling the games).

  • @ph8077
    @ph8077 Před 6 měsíci +1

    No, Forest & Wolves are just random victims of the overarching incompetence of these idiots. However, Liverpool are consistently persecuted due to the power & agenda of Webb & his Manc Ref Mafia! This also explains Utd sitting in 7th only 6 pts off 4th place despite having a goal difference of -4; they should be behind Chelsea based on performances - where possible, there are 6 or 7 refs that do their best to help Utd - & similarly, Liverpool's opponents - stay in games until they are either winning or losing by a decisive margin...then they revert to refereeing the game properly & fairly. These useless & corrupt officials are a disgrace.
    Btw, I'm the most balanced LFC fan when it comes to criticism of players, manager & officiating decisions....unlike many of the Scouse fans such as Neil Mellor for example on LFC TV - he just comes down on Liverpool's side on absolutely every decision or issue!
