“I see the problem. There ain’t no tire there.” Tom is hilarious. 😂
So glad they were able to keep their good humor
By the way, if you get the second camper, make sure you have a jack in it😂
Thank you, Jesus, for amazing passersby willing to help out!!! Made me cry.
That's the America I know!!🎉🇺🇲
It's obvious that God ALWAYS provides all we need when we trust Him.
Me too🙏
Ah yeah me too!
My dad often had car problems when we traveled long distance for vacation. We traveled from WV to upstate NY towing a pop-up camper. This is all so familiar and reminiscent of my childhood. He would also want to drive thru the night. One time we were trying to get to Long Island, Dad got lost in Harlem (this was in the late 60’s/early 70’s) and the car broke down. Mom said she was scared, but some angels dressed as street guys helped dad get the car running in the middle of the night. 😇 ❤😂
Where upstate NY?
Cooperstown and Keeseville. We would visit Mom’s family there every summer. I just loved it up there! We were trying to get to Shelter Island to visit family when Dad got lost and broke down in Harlem.
Aren’t people on the road so wonderful! I love how you all just took it in your stride. There’s really no point in getting stressed and upset 🤷♀. Just roll with it.
💗💗💗Love Love Love it when God goes before and provides people to help! Halleluia! 💗💗💗
I was open-jaw shocked to see this tire and am so very grateful that you are all safe and that the angels on the road found you and helped you!
Same! What a catastrophic tire fail! 😮 I’m just glad it wasn’t on the truck! Enjoy your trip! ❤
Tom took a weekend away from all his projects to a project! Copper Falls State Park is beautiful. Everything you are saying about camping speaks to my heart. We started living in our 5th wheel camper to start building our house. Decided to hold off on the house for a few years and have found such joy in living off of very little, and being able to travel and be outside all over the country for a few months a year with our kids during the work off season. Tip for dishes when not hooked up: fill an empty spray bottle with warm soapy water to clean and wipe dishes.
Oh that’s a great idea about the dishes!!
It was a 9 day RV trip with our 6 kids that changed my life and I discovered YOU!! Working on minimalism and cleaning out my house has been SO therapeutic! Glad you enjoyed our beautiful Wisconsin! Thank you!!
My husband always takes a floor jack when we go camping. And, an impact wrench. I used to think it was overkill, but guess not.
We were in the middle of a 4000 mile move when our trailer tongue broke. We had spent nearly a thousand dollars already putting a new one on. This trailer had been repaired so much already, we were running out of funds and in the middle of a foreign country. We had stopped at a gas station/hardware store to try and figure out what to do next. An old truck pulling gooseneck trailer with farm equipment pulled up next to us. He had stopped for a tarp on his way home. He ended up putting stuff from our trailer onto his to lighten the load, braced the tongue to limp it to his farm and then help hubby get the metal to repair it. (He was a farmer who does everything and hubby doesn't weld). He then welded on a proper tongue (they found out when they cut the old one off, it had not been repaired the first time with the proper thickness or grade of steel). A busy farmer gave us nearly a week of his time, a place to park our motor home and fresh eggs and milk and refused to take payment. There are amazing ppl out there and God has such a way of having solution before we even have the problem.
As kids to young adults, we went camping & we loved it. I remember my Mom cooking on a Colman stove outside. We have some of the best memories from camping. 😊
I agree. Learning to “make do” is a valuable skill. My friend used to travel with her two young sons and would actually enjoy when a plane was delayed and an overnight stay in the airport was necessary. It happened to me and my 12 yo son. We were stranded in the Denver airport overnight. The stewardesses gave us each to overnight kits (a pillow, toiletries, etc) AND told us where the seating was that had no arm dividers so we could lie down. It taught both of us to “make do” and enjoy the adventure!
My husband, 2 kids, and I stayed in our camper for 6 months when we sold our home & was waiting to purchase our new home. We brought with us bare minimum and put the rest in storage. Once we moved into our new home, my kids didn’t even want half the things they unboxed from storage. Come to think of it, neither did my husband or I want much of what we had either. We took I don’t know how many truck loads to donate. We live with less, but don’t even notice it!
When I was growing up, we had camper. We never did dishes inside. We had two dish pans outside on the table. For cooking, we ever used the stove inside. We had a 2 burner Coleman stove on the table or we cooked over the open fire. It did not kill us!
Dawn and Tom, your kids are so blessed to have such calm and serene parents. I can only imagine the stress and anxiety that would have unfolded in my family if this had happened to us! It’s really amazing to me that you guys just took it all in stride and stayed cheerful and positive. Love you guys!
The older I get, the sexier I find a man who is handy with tools. Very comforting and helps the pocketbook.
My hubby always have a hydraulic Jack in our vehicle. Thankfully we have never needed it, but he has helped lots of other people with flats.
It was interesting hearing your thoughts on camping. To me camping is just so much work. So much preparation. So much work while you’re gone. And so much work when you get home. It just doesn’t sound like a vacation to me.
See, we've done tent camping years ago and we decided we aren't campers. We rent cabins instead and enjoy that.
Wow Dawn, you got so lucky on the minimal structural damage of the camper from the flat tire. We had a flat tire on our camper that totaled it, literally punctured a hole in the floor. It was crazy! And such a beautiful camping spot in my home state! I love your simplistic heart and Midwestern values. I totally relate & so much appreciate all your advice and guidance!
It was so great to meet you at the CHEC HS Conference in Denver. You are cute as a button! Totally adorable, I love your personality and how comfortable you are even in person. Thanks for sharing you & your family's home & life! God bless you & your family my friend! (You do feel like a friend 😉)
Well, now I’m crying…. I haven’t tuned in in a long time. I had my fourth baby in February & I’ve been fully enjoying her presence ever since. I know that I’m WAY behind on decluttering, cleaning, etc. We are “campers”, too, so the message of this video deeply resonates with me. I can do this in just 15 minutes a day, right Dawn?! 😭🫠💓
Don't worry about decluttering and cleaning; your wee baby is the only thing (and the other 3) that you need to be thinking about. The mess will be there when you are ready. Congratulations on the newest one.
Good timing for this video! My husband and I are going camping in a couple weeks, and now I know to make sure we have a jack in the car!
For you guys, camping and vehicle issues go together like peanut butter and jelly! For me, camping and rain go together! Glad this one was pretty mild.
Doesn't matter where you go or what you do. It's the change of scenery (and routine) that refreshes. But yes, a bit of the outdoors (and fresh air) unclogs the brain. You guys go through campers like I go through freezers.
Before i went “whole hog” and bought a camper van I tried car camping in my subaru. I love it. It is amazing how little I need to have fun and thrive. I always thought a studio apartment was way too small - but now I think it’s what I want. Lower rent means money for the camper van!!! Yay!
We blew a tire when we were going cross country...scary...glad you were all ok and that no damage was done to your RV...lots of times when you blow a tire like that it does a lot of damage...glad there are still good people out there willing to help.
Wow that tire😱its worth gold when someone stops to help ❤
The difference in accepting inconvenience is living it or just occasionally camping. I am living in my camper... it's difficult, but it is the ultimate in minimal'ing. I love it. Also being able to accept your inconvenience's is you are getting to spend time with friends and watching your kids have a good time. The best of life.
We love camping too Dawn! This was so refreshing to hear your message and connection to camping. I love slowing down and being present in the moment! Camping brings us closer to nature and connects us with God! It's so good!
We don't go camping, we stay more in a chalet kind of house. But each time I'm amazed of how little we need. Glad I'm not the only one thinking this after a trip. ♥️🙈
We just went on a 2 week vacation with a 3 year old. Now imagen him in diapers. Make it a handluggage only. Boom. There we are, the ones with just 3 bags, no suitcase(s). We did rent a car. And we knew there were stores. And we bought whatever we really needed.. food, drinks, diapers, wipes and sunscreen when the 100ml ran out. Everything else we took along.
Amen to Tom's comment regarding RV parks vs State Parks. I totally agree! Great video.
WOW I can't believe 2 Adults and 4 kids it comfortably in that little camper. My goodness. I really liked your Keystone Passport! :-).
We love to stay in the UP on Lake Superior..... no people in our area. Mosquitos and biting flies can be awful til we learned to go in late August / Sept. The winds shift from the north about then so insects are blown away from the water. We love going in Sept.! Perfection!
It’s a homeschool trip, learning what to do and how to make substitutions in emergencies👍🏻😊There is a GREAT thing called roadside assistance insurance Tom….get some 👍🏻🥰
I'm sorry you had a hard time with AAA, it has bailed us out more times than I'd care to admit. I suppose wait times could vary a lot regionally.
We just spent a week camping in NW Iowa - our kids spent most of their free time climbing a tree and playing with sticks. Kids need so much less than we think!
When I was in my mid-twenties, I drove an old dilapidated station wagon (think: plastic in the back windows because I didn't have money to get the broken glass repaired, etc.) and was driving home from my house-cleaning job one very busy Friday afternoon in the St. Louis, MO area. I had a friend with me who had no car at all. Suddenly, there was a loud noise and major bumps on *highway 70 on a Friday afternoon*! It was a blow-out, with a tattered tire about like the one you (Min. Mom) had.
Thank the Good Lord I was in the slow lane and was able to cripple to the side, with no major problem. But I had no idea what we were going to do. Neither of us had any money and we certainly didn't know how to put my dinky little spare on the car. We were standing on the side of the road, with the cars whizzing by. I said a quick prayer and suddenly, someone pulled over and a 40-something man hopped out of his car. "Hi Ladies, need some help?" he shouted out cheerfully, above the noisy din of the heavy traffic. He didn't say much, just cheerfully got my spare out of the back (and thank God I even had *that*) and he actually whistled while he changed the tire. I had no money to offer him and was very apologetic over that.
It didn't matter; he didn't want any money. He just cheerfully hopped back in his car and waved goodbye to us. I still thank God for that man, to this day!
What a beautiful place to go! But man alive the mechanical glitches when trying to travel! Love the bins in cabinets, so convenient they act like drawers and keep things from sliding around!
Those Helper guys are Awesome!!!! Tom, you are so down to earth I enjoy You & Dawn both!!
I agree 100% with your feelings about camping. We love it.
“Good people aren’t hard to find, they’re right around the corner at the end of the line…”
My husband and I were talking a few weeks ago about why we love camping so much when it is so much work. We decided it’s because there is lots of creative problem solving involved 😊
I have never been able to afford a holiday. Campers are so expensive, I could never afford one. I physically can't camp with a tent. It would be nice to get away thought
Beautiful trip ! Ooooh Lake Superior ! Never been . But I’m a Five Great Lakes Girl myself ! Nothing like this part of the world, eh ? I grew up by Lake Erie ( Buffalo) , and have swam in that ( from the Canadian side) & Lake Ontario
( Toronto) . Have sat by Lake Michigan ( lChicago). I love the water. What a sweet camper ! I’m so glad you took this trip. Well deserved !
Wow so unbelievable kind of those guys to help you all!! God works in magic ways
I think it was the best thing taking the kids camping. Good for you. We still camp with our adult son. Just a peaceful time.
It really got me thinking today how much we really need in our lives.
Living simpler is honestly the best way to go. ❤
Glad you were all safe and blessed by the passerby’s who helped, keep making those special memories with your kids❤
At this point I’m impressed that you guys are willing to go camping/drive out of town anymore 😂
I am so thankful that you guys are ok with the tire blowout. I am 64 years old female and I enjoy tent camping! I have been camping for over 45 years. I enjoy being in the woods. I have camped all over the country. As a teenager I used to go to the creek and catch crayfish and other things by hand...lol😂
Me too Kathy I am 56 and I have first birthday pictures of me at a campsite with a party hat and a cupcake 😂
@@ruthmgonigle5914we've brought our kids camping a few times this summer our daughter is 4 and our son will be a year in August! I'm glad we're not the only people crazy enough to bring a baby camping😊
When we started camping I made a supply list of what we needed in the camper. Before each trip and I checked off each item. that saved me so many times, and was so useful that I made one for just traveling. No more incidences of forgetting to pack some important item like undergarments.
I do the same. The kids also have a list in a sheet protector and they use a dry erase marker. I have my lists and they have theirs. Works so well.
There's a reason the UP has a town called Paradise. 💜
I am always amazed to watch ppl good at glamping. For me it was prep cook clean... 30 min rest, start all over. "Fun" didnt happen. I wanted it to happen but it became time to cook and clean again. I'm glad some ppl have figured out how to do it right.
You guys crack me up 😂. My dad kept buying different campers, trying to find the perfect one😅
Camping, for me, makes me appreciate what I do have like countertops and room.
I hope you put a jack in the camper for Dawns parents.
I love sweet people! Proof there's so much good in this world.
Also important as the quality/rating of a trailer tire is that they are also rated for speed . Most trailer tires are not rated for over 65 mph.
I truly miss our family camping trips. So many great memories! Getting out in nature is medicine for the mind & soul!
Lake Superior is so beautiful!!! I'm only a couple hours away-- thoroughly enjoyed this video 😊
Praise God for the help! I’m so impressed by the way you and your hubby took this in stride.
I LOVE camping! My husband HATES camping. I really wish my sons had had the experience. Your children will grow from the experience. I'm so glad that God was with you when the tire blew! God bless.
What a mess with that tire, but thank goodness there were some awesome people to help! Thanks for a great video; looks like it was a lot of fun 😎
A suggestion for camping in Florida next time is Hart Springs. It’s along the Suwannee River and has a fresh water springs, all kinds of amenities and an awesome campground!
Thanks so much for taking us along with you! So fun! Tom is great… I love the two of you together. ❤
I'm with Tom on the safety measures fir the kids. Lots can go wrong in nature. At least make sure the stuff you can control is handled. ❤
❤"There's always angels on the road!"
We always had a plastic basin that we would full with the soapy water to wash the dishes when we were camping.
We just got back from Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park in ND. If you haven’t been there, you should go! Our kids (ages 2, 9, 18) loved it! In Bismarck there is a free museum and cultural center next to the State Capitol that has wonderful, interactive exhibits.
I loved your talk about improvising! I’m so glad the the tire loss wasn’t worse! Looks like a marvelous time! Happy camping next time.
I hope you put an extra spare and jack for when your parents use camper. So glad people are still willing to help others I need
We had a very similar version of the camper you showed. Ours had a jack-knife couch with Murphy bed. Loved that Murphy bed. Now we have a smaller camper and an outdoor kitchen set up. You can get a folding table with a sink (these are usually used for cleaning fish) and have it drain into a bucket. What a difference it makes and the table folds up for easy storage inside the camper.
Dawn, you and Tom seem like good people and I don't wish to sound unkind. Admittedly, I'm the daughter of a mechanic and would never drive anywhere without a tire jack, tire gauge and jumper cables. Oh, and a basic first aid kit, of course. I say this with kindness and love in my heart and hope other campers/travelers will check for these things. Not sure about the underside framing of trailers now but def ask Tom to look at the axle/unibody to see if it got bent. You both did the right thing in slowing down and getting to a safe place. Sending much love, L
Yes the having less to do and more time outside is great but it is not a vacation if I am working even harder.
I love how you improvised in the kitchen 🥰 When I saw that shredded tire I wished you guys had AAA or something.💗 I never had it while my husband was living, but now that he passed, I decided to get it for me (although in 4 years, I've never needed to use it... yet)
@@ritadyer9295That is why I keep some cash so I can tip the emergency worker.
@@ninadukette3340 Great idea, love that!
AAA will even come to your house to put on your spare if u have a nail in ur tire or whatnot. So worth the peace of mind. Cool those guys liked helping out, dude are so kind to each other.
Glad that you all were safe after that tire blow out, as it looked very dangerous, especially given you were in the fast lane. So glad those lovely people were there to help you all out. The trail you showed us looked really fun. I can’t believe that you still chose to build things in your rest break Tom, be careful of that back of yours. Your dogs are so adorable, if it was me, I would want to be around them all the time.
We have two plastic dish pans and do all our dishes outside. The small sink is hard to do dishes in without making a splashy mess. Plus the dish pans can double as carry tubs for loading the camper. 😊
May God bless those men who stepped up to help+ There is something about living out in the country or just being out in nature that brings peace to the soul.
Making memories, getting unplugged, time with friends and family...that's my why! I can do ANYTHING with and end date in mind, one weekend, or one month.... it's not forever, it's just for a season.
My 8 year old boy, who is autistic, adores you. He wears black shirts everyday, because Minimal Mom does it. 😅 just thought you should know that you have a young fanboy. 😝
I had to stop the video and replay it - I've never heard "hammock" pronounced the way you did? Is that a Minnesota thing? I've always heard it pronounced with the stress on the beginning - Ham - muck. I find dialects and accents fascinating! Looks like you all had a wonderful time!
Wonderful Family time and Love of Friends and Kindness of Strangers Beautiful video
We’ve been camping at Copper Falls for 40 years. 1st tenting, then hard sided RV’s. You should try Ashland, sites right on the water!! We winter in AZ in our 42’ 5th wheel & love it! Just the 2 of us now. Perhaps you’ve heard this saying in the RV community. 6 for cocktails, 4 for dinner, 2 for sleeping😂
We just had a flat tire on our camper a few weeks ago on the interstate. Someone came up beside us and motioned to my husband telling him so we were able to get pulled off safely before it was down to the rim. So glad you are all safe!
We have been wanting to get a smaller camper and you are inspiring me that we can make a smaller one make it work!
Looks like great fun, except for the tire. I think peanut is super cute
Thank you for addressing "why would you go camping, it is harder". It reminds me that I used to think I hated ironing. I discovered at one point that what I disliked was the fear that my crawling baby would pull the iron down on top of themselves. I actually like the smell of hot cotton and the smoothness of freshly ironed clothing and household items (tea towels, pillowcases, handkerchiefs)
Love these camping updates! And all the pics of you and Diana as kids, too cute!!!🏕
I think when camping it makes you slow down... being overall more intentional with everything...it is all curated out of necessity... and some "niceties".
I love the kids' hammock village! We have hammocks at home in our backyard and I love to go out and read in the shade. We tried sleeping out in them one night, but it got too cold.
The container store is where I just got the shower dispenser you love for $60! I also ordered one frame per kid that holds art work. You frame one piece and it opens up to hold up to 30 things so that’s the container limit on kids art to display 😂👏
Oh I love the art frame idea!
RV tires may look good but if they’re over 5 years old it’s time to get new ones. I’ve heard of too many tire bombs. A lot of the times it will total the camper. Get the Goodyear Endurance. Trailer tires are not one thing to go cheap on. They’re called china bombs for a reason!
So thankful for the angels that stopped and helped with the tire. Fudge striped smores, yes please! Such a fun video! ❤
I love how people are God’s “hands and heart” in these situations!
God is so good!! 😊
I reeeally love your insight on how camping reminds us how little we Really need to be happy ❤😊 this hits home. All the things that we truly want, and the lack of "things" leaves room to do our dishes i ln a teeny tiny sink, etc.
And hey I've been to these falls!
I just recently started watching your channel. Have been watching Clutterbug for quite awhile but just recently have been bingeing on your videos. Thank you!! I have gotten some great tips that I'm actually going to try or have *already* tried...it's ALL good and has been extremely beneficial for my little family. Your positivity and heart come through on your videos. Thank you and May God Bless you and your family richly.😊👍❤
Your container packing method really cuts down on the work and over packing. I started using containers to hold stuff in the our RV. My husband thinks we should have duplicates of everything to make it "easier" . But that's not working as I still want to bring in the breads, opened bags of chips, etc. I'm switching to your way! Minimizing efforts maximizing results.
BTW. I've committed to watching ads all the way through while repeating this mantra in my head. Don't click it, don't need it! 😂❤
** Doing the same on Tom's channel. Truly the least we can do as thanks for the inspiration and entertainment you both provide.😊😊
I am seriously considering the mattress you recommended. You promote so few things. It's obvious you believe in them and are promoting for our good as well. ❤❤
I SO love state parks! And sleep in my SUV when camping. I take less & less every time. Next time you are in Tennessee visit our state parks! (The Smokies are very busy!)
We love camping too! We visited and hiked in all the Minnesota State Parks in less than a year, mostly in a small tent. We are in the process of converting a van into a camper, it will be done by the time we retire. We look forward to long trips living simply.
I may have missed it but hope you got jacks for trail and truck before handing off to the parents! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
So glad everything’s OK. Love your camper! We love camping, too. Such a great place for some vacation time. I love the hammock Village! Such great memories! Jane in SC ❤🙏🏻
My parents have a layout like your "ideal" camper. It works great for them with the gradkids.
I have fewer " things" than many of my peers - no internet at home, no cable TV, no dishwasher, no second home, only 1 car, not alot of discretionary funds, no vacations.
* Internet - the library or my phone plan.
* Public Broadcasting- has most of the shows I like to watch or via my smart phone.
* Handwashing dishes or use paper plates.
* I find it hard enough to clean one house let alone a second house.
* I can only drive 1 car at a time so no need for another one.
* As for extra money, this retired lady can do side gigs and is blessed to have a full pantry.
* I am retired so each day there is time to relax and be peaceful - isn't that what a vacation is for ?
So in reality I have more than enough especially when it comes down to my decluttering
I love camping! Agree with everything you said about being in nature and needing less stuff.
I had to show my husband how you said hammock . I say it the exact same way as you and he thinks that is an unusual way to say it . Well, there are at least 2 of us who say it that way! :)
