It just helps me out!
Here is the Breakdown and 4 Simple Steps:
1. 12 Hour Brine
2. 24 Chill / Dry
3. Inject / Rub
4. Smoke / Cook
For the brine, here are the ingredients I used, and you can easily just go with a simple water/salt combo to keep it simple:
1 QT Water
1 cup Brown Sugar
1 cup Kosher Salt
1 1/2 cup Apple Cider or Apple Juice
a few sprigs Rosemary + Thyme
a few Bay Leaves
1 whole head garlic, peeled + smashed
1 orange, sliced
1 lemon, sliced
1 tbsp Peppercorn
1 tsp cloves
Once all the above ingredients come to a boil, add an additional 3 QTs water, and 2-3 cups ice. You need the brine to be at or below room temperature before adding the turkey. Store in the fridge, or a cooler with a brine bag, and plenty of ice for 12 hours.
For the Injection, I used 8 oz melted, unsalted butter, an equal portion of Maple Syrup, and 2-3 tbsp Traeger Pork & Poultry Rub.
I smoked / cooked this bird at 350°f/ 176°c until the Internal Temp (IT) reached 160°f/71°c in the breast. The carryover heat will bring your bird to finishing IT to 165°f/74°c after a 30 minute rest.
While your Turkey is roasting, be sure to make this amazing Turkey Gravy from the neck and giblets: • The Perfect Turkey Gra...

‘Thanksgiving on a Budget’ vid just dropped! Thank you for all the support!
czcams.com/video/9b5e_IHbexI/video.html
Been using this video as a guide for 1.5 years now. After 3 turkeys, I’ve been deemed the “turkey guy” for all family functions. Great job building this recipe!!
We made this smoked turkey on our Traeger grill yesterday. It came out so amazing! However, my husband adjusted the temp and started low and slow at 200 for an hour to get a good smoke and raised it to 375. It took 4 hours for a 14 lb turkey but it crisped up beautifully and had incredible flavor. I think the brine, the flavor injection, and the rub are so important to the result. We are not big turkey fans and this came out so delicious that we will be making this again and again. Thank you so much!!
Love this Lynn! Your husband knows what he’s doing! I do a low and slow then crank the heat on my whole chickens! I tried to keep the Turkey recipe simple since there is always so much to do on Thanksgiving! Really appreciate you letting me know the results... you gotta check out my prime rib recipe / video next 😉 czcams.com/video/FZRevMJ4O00/video.html
I really want to try it specially because the Turkeys are very inexpensive right now. If it comes out good I would be ready for next thanksgiving. I have all the ingredients I just need to do it.
4 hours total counting your 200 time?
I’ve made this 3 times now and we go crazy for it every time. We aren’t big fans of traditional thanksgiving food but this recipe has been a game changer. Thanks for sharing it, Ryan. We love it!
Made this today and the family can't stop raving about it! Best turkey we've ever had by a long shot! Thanks for posting this!
wow, that's amazing! Thanks for sharing... We're coming around the Holiday season... are you making this again?!
Just finished putting my turkey in the fridge with this brine recipe. Thank you for making it so easy to follow!
My pleasure. Glad you found it useful! I just put my brined Turkey in the fridge as well 🙌🏼
@@ItsRyanTurley - it came out great and super moist. Thanks so much!!
My pleasure. So glad to hear!
Ryan, Thank you so much! I followed your recipe to the tee for my Thanksgiving smoked turkey. It was a total hit with my friends and family! and There was nothing left of that bird. They are asking me to do the exact same thing for our Christmas meal . Thanks again for making our Thanksgiving a hit!
Yo Mark! This is incredible! You really made my day after reading this comment. Appreciate you letting me know and glad the whole family crushed that bird! 😂🔥💯
This brine is the bomb! I did our Thanksgiving turkey with it this year, and will definitely repeat it again next year. Don't hesitate to try this.
Thanks Ryan!
Damn that’s awesome! Thanks so much for letting me know. Hope your 2020 finish is epic!
I made this turkey for Thanksgiving and it was amazing! My whole extended family all loved it. Thanks!
Here getting a reminder for our Turkey this year!
Tried your recipe today, it was very good! Super moist and great flavor. It was my first time cooking a turkey. Thanks for the helpful vid!
Awesome sooooo glad to hear that brother! I hope your holidays are perfect! Prime rib vid dropping next week 👊🏼🔥💨
Thanks for the GREAT content brother! Much appreciated!
Thanks Dave, appreciation going both ways! 🙌🏼

Hi Beverly, thank you so much for the kind works 🙏🏼 I hope you have a great Holiday!
Super presentation, easy to follow and it was the best turkey I had period! Thanks for the compliments I received
Wow Barbara, you already made your Turkey?! I’m so glad to hear that, and this made my day! Many Thanks! 🙌🏼
Brooooo!!!!! Best turkey I have ever tasted!! Will never make it differently again. I was a thanksgiving hero in my family’s eyes. Thanks!!
Brooo! That’s all that matters, the family hero!! Stoked it turned out for ya. Cheers 🍻
Thank you Ryan, another great video.
Thanks Rich, glad you enjoy. Much Appreesh!
I came back.. Because I used this method last year and it was amazing!!! Big time favorite ever ever!! Thank you 😎
Ayyye 😏 so glad to hear that E! (ever ever 😂)We loved it as well. I might try something new this year 🤫 stay tuned!
Best Turkey I’ve ever had. Made it last thanksgiving and plan to make it the same way this year.
Looks amazing! Going to definitely try this on my traeger this week for the fam
Awesome, would love to hear how it goes 🦃🍁🍂 happy thanksgiving!
Thank you for posting! I purchased ALL of the ingredients based on this and will be starting the process tomorrow. First time making a Turkey on my Treager (Ironwood 885) Cant wait!
That’s awesome! Holler back with the results 👊🏼🔥💨
Great video, simple, good instruction, and demonstration, not too long, not too short.
Plus those almond pellets are the bomb. All my stick burning and pizza oven i used almond wood
Appreciate that very much Chuck! Yeah these Almond Pellets may be my go to.... so smooth!
This turkey is amazing. We had it last year and everyone is asking if we are having it again this year. Of course we are. It is the best turkey I've ever had and I'm in my 60s. Fantastic Ryan. Thanks for helping our family continue to make new traditions!!
Thank you SPT 😉 glad you’re having it again the fam will love it! (even if it’s on a Saturday) 😭 wish I could be there to try it, maybe next year!
Do you put your turkey directly on the grill or in a small pan
@@donaldstephensen8654 I put my bird directly on the grill because my grill was so small. But I have a larger grill this year and will be using a Pan. Cheers Don!
@@ItsRyanTurley ok thanks bud. Happy Thanksgiving
Made this bird today for my visiting Canadian family for their thanksgiving, was a total hit. Bird was wiped clean and everyone wants to make sure I make this for our thanksgiving. Thanks for sharing Ryan.
Wow 😯 that’s awesome Patrick! Stoked your Canadian family enjoyed it. Thank you for trying it out and letting me know ✨🙏🏼
Followed this recipe for thanksgiving last year and it was 10/10. Everyone loved it, it was devoured. Did it again on Christmas and since it was -10° out, I just did it in the oven (instead of outdoor Traeger) and it was still amazing. The butter maple injection really is key. Thanks for uploading and sharing
Wow. Thanks so much for sharing the good vibes and coming back for more! Love to hear you tried both methods. Wishing you and your fam all the best!
This turned out amazing for us!
Love to hear it. Thanks for sharing the success! Happy Thanksgiving 🙏🏼
I will be using this recipe this year...I will let you know how it turned out..Thanks for sharing this recipe!
Looks delish! Nice work, bro!
Yessss bro 🙌🏼 thanks for checking it! You doing a bird this year for the fam?
Used this recipe for a couple of Turkey legs on my Traeger and they were incredible. A little sweet for me for a whole turkey but def a fantastic recipe if you are a smoked turkey leg fan.
That’s awesome! Stoked to hear it turned out. Next time you can reduce or remove the sugar and apple cider from brine, and just use a salt/pepper rub. Would be amazing!
I always come back to this video every year. Comes out amazing every time!
Wow, thank you!
Just did this recipe last night for thanksgiving today. This turkey smells amazing and is absolutely delicious!! I might try using A food grade 5 gallon bucket instead of bag for the brine next time. My turkey was 18 lbs and I had a hard time with the bag and liquid. Thank you for sharing the recipe.
First time turkey smoker here. Followed this recipe (for the most part), and it turned out fantastic! Your syrup/butter injection made a HUGE impact: thanks Ryan, will be doing this again, highly recommend!
Hey Sean, love to hear that! Yeah this recipe is pretty much foolproof… I hope to make a remastered video of this recipe next year. I’ve made some changes! In the meantime, check out my perfect prime rib video here: czcams.com/video/FZRevMJ4O00/video.html
Made this last year and it was better than I could have ever imagined! I had to come back and double check the recipe and method before I try it again this year.
For people who are cooking this for a lot of people and are nervous they may mess it up, I did a practice run on a whole chicken a few weeks before just to be more comfortable.
That was also the best chicken I've ever had.
That’s awesome! So stoked you tried it and enjoyed it! Smart move in the chicken pre-game too… 😏
Great injection recipe! I will definitely try it next time.
I’m getting ready to put my Turkey on now. Thanks for the tips.
My pleasure bro! How did it turn put?!
Oh my word! We did this. It was AMAZING! Will be making another like this for Thanksgiving! Thank you so much for sharing your technique!
Love to hear that! Yes it really is wonderful, I will likely do something similar again this year! But I never cook the same thing twice… Thank you so much for the comment and the support!
Ryan, great video it was clear and informative. This will be my first turkey smoked on the Traeger but will probably smoke low for the first two hours and then finished at 350 degrees for the remaining time. I complement you on your tidiness and the background music.
Wow Stephen, thank you so much! That is definitely a good plan as I do low and slow then crank the heat on all my spatchcock chickens. Keep me posted on how it goes!
Great video. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for watching!
Wife is working and I am attempting my first turkey! After lots of research I decided on yours and also subscribed. Currently on the brine stage. Having fun so far, thank you
That’s awesome good luck! You may be in charge of the Turkey every year after this one 😅 this is fool proof I hope your family enjoys! Keep me posted please 🙏🏼
Making this for 1st time next week and can’t wait to see how it turns out
Really great presentation, thanks!
My pleasure James, hope you enjoy!
Hello Ryan, and thank you so much for this video. I have never commented on CZcams, but I have also never had a Thanksgiving dinner where the turkey was the star. This was very special for my family since this was my 1st year hosting my parents, and the 1st time I cooked everything on my own. Unbelievably DELICIOUS. Though I did not have the official rub and made my own, I believe the technique is most important to the result. Thanks again for this exciting holiday culinary contribution, I will be repeating this for Christmas!
Wow Jennifer, it’s an honor to be the recipient of your first you tube comment 🙌🏼 I’m so glad to hear the Turkey was the star of your dinner! I too, prepared my first Thanksgiving for my parents this year, and they said it was the best tasting bird they’ve ever had! I also changed the rub up a bit from the original video, but that’s between us 🤫. This comment honestly made all the hours of researching, preparing, and editing...worth it! Stay connected ❤️
@@ItsRyanTurley how long was your total cook time?
@@Caliguy760, You have to use a meat thermometer. Time at a guess is 1hr per pound... but basic guess really. 10 lbs 10 hrs... wow!
Great job, thanks for sharing time and temperature.
My pleasure, and thank you! Keep me posted on how it turns out, happy holidays!
Nice! Keep up the good work!
Ayyye thank you Robb 🙏🏼
Wow, Ryan, so impressed by all the work you put into making this turkey, but very well worth the effort! Not the kind of thing you'd do every week, but definitely for special holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas, it would be a treat! Flavors of apple, and honey, and maple syrup, yum!!!
Thank you Dan! It really wasn’t a lot of effort just a long waiting period over the 3 days 😆 well worth it though... thanks so much for checking it out! Hope your holidays are great!
Ryan, just want to say a big Thank You! I used your turkey recipe and it turned out fantastic! Many rave reviews from the family like "you really out-did yourself"... "best turkey I've ever had" etc, etc. I spatchcocked it but everything else was pretty consistent with your recipe. I didn't have a low-profile aluminum pan to catch the drippings, which didn't make for the perfect gravy but next year I will find one and get the turkey recipe down as well. Again, many thanks Ryan!!
Wow Chad that’s incredible! So stoked you gave it a try, and that your whole family loved it! Now it’s time to prepare for prime rib season, this video will help. Cheers! czcams.com/video/FZRevMJ4O00/video.html
3rd year in a row doing this bird, absolutely love it!
Wow. This is truly a shock! Sending thanks and gratitude! Happy Thanksgiving to your family! 🦃
I tried this turkey it was one of the best I had ever cooked
I am watching this video again for my Thanksgiving turkey. They liked it last year and I'm doing the same recipe this year.
Awesome Jennifer! I think I remember you. Stoked you came back thru! 😭 now you gotta try my prime rib recipe for New Years! czcams.com/video/FZRevMJ4O00/video.html
Thanksgiving 2023 - can confirm this recipe is the best. We almost over cooked it, our 12lbs turkey only took 2.5 hours. It was perfect, literary the best we ever had. Thank you for this great video!!
Awesome! Great news you saved the bird 😅 Appreciate the kind words 🙏🏼
Just did this Turkey. WOW. It's a big hit. Killer recipe.
Love to hear it! 🙏🏼 Now check out my perfect prime rib vid: czcams.com/video/FZRevMJ4O00/video.html
definitely the PERFECT Turkey. Cooked this for my Friendsgiving and it was a hit!
Thank you.
Ayyye! So stoked to hear that 🙌🏼 My goal for this channel is to make everyone the star of their kitchen/backyard... Let’s GO!
@@ItsRyanTurley silly question, what did you use to tie the turkey legs together and where did you get it?
@@SavannahStarrett no silly questions here 😭 that is butchers / kitchen twine you can find it at most grocery stores. Also some butcher shops / meat dept will give you a few feet if you ask nicely 😊 🤫
While your Turkey is roasting, be sure to make this Perfect Turkey Gravy: czcams.com/video/bxTq9VPko7c/video.html
Is turkey thaw before the brine
Ayyye Ray, yes the Turkey was thawed before the brine. Holler if I can help, and thx for tuning in!
Best turkey video I have seen
Wow. Thank you so much 🙌🏼
Thank you!! Best Turkey ever! 😎👍🏻
Ayyyye, stoked you tried it!!!
This recipe is a keeper. Got raves from everyone !!! Thx Ryan. Gravy was the best I ever made also !!!!!
Thanks so much brother! So stoked to hear that! Yeah the gravy was sooo good and glad you made that as well. I’m going to spatchcock my bird next year, so stay tuned!

Thank you everyone that has subscribed to my channel, we’re almost to 1000! Let’s GO!
Can’t wait to try this! 🤤
Can’t wait for your feedback. Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃
Best smoked turkey I have ever made. A family friend that doesn’t like turkey but was famished and had some. He said , “ I don’t even like turkey but this is awesome”. Everyone loved it. No left overs to worry about or even enjoy. It was devoured.
Thanks for sharing this detail, Larry! So stoked to hear! 😆 ...leftovers are the best tho’ you might have to Round 2 😢
Trying this for tomorrow!!🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
For realist?! Ueahhhhh! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
It was the best turkey I've ever had. The dripping made a great gravy. I placed the extra stuffing in the dripping pan. It was exceptional!

Made and served this today for Thanksgiving. Also smoked the bird at 250 for the first 2 hours then bumped it up to 375 for the last hours. It turned out great and everyone loved it. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe.
Nice Chris! Love the lower temps to start for a smokier bird. Great call! Check out my perfect prime rib vid next: czcams.com/video/FZRevMJ4O00/video.html
That turkey looks amazing!!!
Why thank ya!
I'll follow your recipe as a tester this weekend, in preparation for my first ThxGiving with my new smoker.
YOOOO! That's awesome! Would love to hear how it turns out. Hope you enjoy it Kyle!
@@ItsRyanTurley Followed recipe 95%. My guests got delayed, so I dialed it back to 225 and rested it double foil wrapped in towels in a cooler for 2 hours. Created my own rub, because my wife is allergic to peppers. Still AMAZING, warm, juicy, and the 4 of us ate it all. I took pics. Wish I could pist them.
Thanks for making my Thanksgiving great with this recipe
Awesome Randy! Thanks for sharing the good vibes 💯🔥
That’s what’s up bro. Great vid as always
Yes bro! Thanks so much, appreesh 🙌🏼
Turkey looks great man!
Appreciate that John! Enjoy bro 👊🏼🔥
I have watched your video three times to make sure I get this right! Trying it on a smoker for the first time this Thanksgiving.
Ayyye Mark, thanks for the comment. You got this brother! Once you smoke a bird, you’ll never go back! I do a spatchcock chicken once a week! Holler if you have any q’s.
Hey Thanks so much! I need that injection tool now. The bird looks so delicious. I was gonna start tomorrow night with the brining process but it’s great to do both wet and dry brine. Other videos just do one method. It’s Tuesday night and I’m making the brine right now! :) Thanks again! :)
Thank you! It was so tasty! You can usually find the injector at most grocery stores and some hardware stores. Yeah the wet brine and dry rest is the best of both worlds! I have my brine going now too 😆 enjoy!
Awesome job Ryan! I have been thinkin g of doing a bird, just never have. Turkey legs yes. Looks amazing. the little one with you while loading the pellets is adorable! Thanks for sharing my friend!
Thank you so much brother! Yeah she is becoming quite the sous chef! Whenever I say it’s dinner time, she runs to her drawer and pulls out nitrile gloves and a silicone brush. It is adorable!

This is very first time smoking a turkey, and I have to tell you I am so ecstatic I opened your video. My turkey was close to 18 lbs. so it took a little longer and the top of the bird just cleared my junior Traeger. I'll go smaller next time, but it was absolutely delicious, moist, and the best smoked turkey ever. Your recipe is a keeper! Thank you,

Ryan, Thank you for making this video. The recipe is great. I have made this Turkey for the past two years. All the guests tell me it is the best Turkey they have ever had. I use the Kosmo Turkey Brine which works very well.

What a beautiful and moist Bird.
We can't wait to make this smoked turkey for this Thanksgiving.
I hope it's as good as yours. You spoiled us last year, Mijo.
Thank you Mama! We will miss you this year, but hope you can nail this bird for the family this year. Love you!
You can't go wrong with brining and even though it's time consuming it's well worth it!!! Apple and honey rub, butter and maple injected, I have just GOT to get me one of those injectors!!! The Perfect Turkey is appropriately named and oh my that turkey leg eating moment got me😋👍!!! Magnificent cooking once again Ryan!!!!
YES Brother! I brine every whole chicken that passes through my kitchen, and would not let a Turkey go through the Turley treatment. haha! Yes a $10 injector is well worth the investment, as I use it on my pork shoulder/butts as well. You will be so glad you did! and than you for the kind words and checking out the vid!
Will be trying this! Come on Thanksgiving!!!!
Yes brother! Keep me posted on how it turns out. Happy Thanksgiving!
