  • Unreliable access to electricity is one of the biggest developmental obstacles many African nations must overcome. According to a report published by Wood Mackenzie Ltd., Sub-Saharan African countries would need to invest up to $350 billion between now and 2030 to significantly improve electricity generation and distribution.
However, not all African countries are facing this problem. In fact, some nations, especially in North Africa, have made incredible progress in providing access to electricity. Other countries in Africa, such as South Africa and Gabon, have also shown promise. The World Bank defines electricity access as the percentage of people who have consistent and stable electricity within a given nation. Information for determining access to energy is sourced from industries and household surveys, among others. In today’s video, we will take a look at the 10 most electrified countries in Africa.

Load shedding in SA is as a result of non maintenance due to massive corruption on state owned enterprise like Eskom during the Zuma years and the two new power stations recently built which took extra years to build at inflated cost are currently not working to full capacity. Now after all the rot has been discovered, there needs to have regular planned maintenance with not enough capacity to the grid in addition to unplanned breaks, let alone sabotage claims, thus the necessary load shedding schedule until there is enough Electricity to the grid. Something which will eventually be fixed. In as far as rating of this video is concerned, nothing is hyped because access to South African households is as stated currently.

You should have said electrified and stable. A country like South Africa is electrified but not stable looking at all the loadshedding over there. That means all they have is infrastructure but no actual power. Same story with Ghana, power not very stable over there i hear.
