Nope, I will never be nostalgic for the Switch system. I've had it ever since launch night back in 2017, so if it were to be nostalgic, I would already be feeling that nostalgia. Now there are games on the Switch I am nostalgic for like Mario Maker 2 and Botw, but that's about it. Saying Mario Kart 8 would be cheating because most of that nostalgia comes from the Wii U version

10:31 is the answer to all your questions. People sure couldn't stop bitching and moaning during the Wii U era about "gimmicks", "gimmicks", "gimmicks" and how Nintendo should be more like the others and Nintendo heard that message loud and clear. People felt the same about the Wii U back in 2016-2017. So people will be bitching about the Switch in its last years, they'll be desperate to jump ship to the next console, once we get used to the next system we'll forget about the pains of the Switch era and look back at it fondly as the "Nintendo renaissance" when the next era introduces new problems.

I honestly despise this response to criticism because of how common it is and how it kills discussion. Is this a frequent result of successful companies? Yes. Does it always happen? Probably in the long run (capitalism wahoo). But there are still recent projects put out by large companies which I would say were innovative and made risks. My point is, it doesn’t *have* to be this way so if we notice this happening, we should criticize this occurrence - Nintendo included. Also, this channel’s main focus is Nintendo so of course they’re going talk about this issue in relation to Nintendo.

The Wii U had Miiverse, where you didn't need to interact with the community but still felt apart of it, because some games incorporated some features that would allow you to see what other players were doing with messages and pictures. I always loved seeing what other players were drawing and messages on the Wii U home screen when I booted it up. This is was the Switch lacks, even though it is more successful, it doesn't have much "personality", with it's boring UI. Plus the company since losing Iwata and Reggie has been devoid of fun advertising and more "straight to the point" orientated. So in a sense, yes, it has indeed gotten boring. the opposite tbh. people can be nostalgic all they want for the wii u era but it was mostly just low budget mario spin offs and really boring stuff like tennis ultra smash or paper mario color splash. other series hardly got to breathe, it was just the sane thing constantly. meanwhile the switch is like... heres tears of the kingdom, heres fire emblem engage, heres pikmin 4, heres kirby and the forgotten land, heres paper mario ttyd, heres metroid dread. its nothing but nonstop fun and whimsy. nintendo is more fresh and interesting than theyve ever been
and yeah "the directs arent as silly" but like. anytime nintendo tries to be silly they get super harsh criticism and angry comments that theyre wasting time
and sure "the switch home menus bland" but its easy to navigate and understand, and it loads lightning fast. if the switch had a charming musical home menu that took awhile to load, people would despise it
nintendo is super fun, they just listen to criticism way too much

This new "boring" Nintendo is making better games, so nyeh.
The Wii U era felt _miserable_ as a fan in terms of quality releases. The only "fun" things were certain specific moments of their directs. We remember them, and most of them became super iconic, but no one talks about how they almost always felt dissapointing in terms of actual content. I don't outright _regret_ buying a Wii U, but it was also the first ever generation where I also bought a Sony system and I think that says a lot.
I've been a Nintendo fan since the 90s. The Switch generation has been incredible. Every generation has its fans, but I honestly think that a ton of people will look at the Switch as a little bit of a golden age in the next few generations (or hopefully, the start of one if the next system is also a hit).

I personally feel like Nintendo doesn't take as many risks in their games anymore. They don't innovate as much as they could. All the Mario sports titles are bare bones and just basic on the switch, including the Mario parties. Most of the games on the switch are good yes, but they don't do anything crazy. They don't turn the series on it's head. I think the GameCube is the best example of when Nintendo games where insane in terms of just what those games did. Mario Sunshine, Double Dash, Metroid Prime, Lugi's Mansion, Pokémon Colosseum, ect. All those games took their franchise and did something new with it. People might disagree, but I don't think TOTK is that good. I like a lot of the systems they added to the game, but overall it's just an expansion of BOTW. It didn't do anything to flip zelda on it's head. Look at Windwaker. We went from Majoras mask and Ocarina of time to windwaker and that was a drastic change in what we viewed Zelda could be. I really hope with the next system they go back to the gamecube era of games and make things fresh again and subvert expectations in a good way

The marketing was creative in this era, because it had to be. Nintendo's games were extremely mid in the late Wii and WiiU era, and they were surviving on nostalgia and brand loyalty alone. Good games market themselves. Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8, and New Horizons not only saved Nintendo, but brought them back to the top.

I definitely loved the Direct skits and whatnot during the Wii U and 3DS era. I even loved the Star Fox Muppet skits they had back in E3 2015, but... I'm pretty darn sure a majority of people that were around during that year should remember just how much of a dark year that was for Nintendo. I wasn't super Internet savvy back in 2008, so I didn't get to see how bad Nintendo's E3 in 2008 was. A lot of people felt like Nintendo was leaning a bit too close to the casual audience at the time.
After Iwata's passing and Reggie's retirement, future Directs got rid of filler and fluff and focused on the stuff that a lot of gamers actually wanted; the games.
So yeah, while I agree that the Switch's menu UI is bland and their Directs are a lot more streamlined, I think it might've been for the best since at the end of the day the games are what makes a console really sell.
If they ever wanna go back to doing skits, they should just focus on doing that for the game that they're advertising.

Look, I know most people do hate them taking down fan games, emulators, and tournaments, yet they still were able to bring out bangers onto their games.
