- Super Smash Bros ultimate has a lot of hidden easter eggs, and one of the most interesting are the titles given to every character on the Boxing Ring stage from Punch out. These are meant to sound like cool nicknames, but some do this job better than others. So today we’re throwing all of these boxing ring titles into a tier list! So join me as I rank all 100 Boxing ring titles in super smash bros ultimate! Yeah this might be one of my dumbest rankings to date…

That and changing Terry's title by just removing "hungry" from his title "The legendary hungry wolf" was a bit weird
You know what? That’s true! It would’ve given Joker a much more mysterious and almost intimidating feeling if he was announced as “The Wild Card” or “The Trickster”, plus it’s a direct reference to Persona 5/Royal so it would be consistent with how Joker is referred to in the Velvet Room by ‘Igor’ and Lavenza.
Mario having the title of "Mr. Videogame" in the biggest videogame crossover of all time is basically perfect, I seriously love how Smash always talks about how iconic and important Mario is to gaming in stuff like this, the Codec calls, Palutena's guidence and any other thing describing him, he's just that legendary

With context he's essentially the Father of all platform 2d video games and the reason there are loads of video games are having movies shows and mangas since he's basically the 1st to have all 3
Fun fact: the french ring title for Piranha Plant is "les dents de la terre", it means "the teeth of the earth" and it's a reference to the french name of jaws(1975), "les dents de la mer" (the teeth of the sea)

The whole “chosen by the keyblade” thing is even less cool when you consider that Sora was canonically the keyblade’s second choice. Like, he wasn’t chosen, he just happened to be the only other option present when the first choice fell through.
I mean... he was still chosen by the Keyblade, that was the whole point.
I know KH lore means you have to say "UHM ACTUALLY" a lot but I think we can give this one a pass because it still fits.
You know I find it even more funny that Sora does not even believe he was chosen by the keyblade even though the Keyblade chose him over Riku.
And even lesser cool when 80% of the cast can wield a keyblade

@@vanessasandoval96 That's because you can't afford to make mistakes, it's only when you suffer too much damage that you get knocked off stage, so don't get hit too much. It's like Punch Out, when fighting the harder bosses a couple mistakes is enough to lose. In return Mac has super armor in some of his attacks, his tilts are pretty strong, his counter has pretty good range, a KO punch, and finally his speed allows him to both run away and rush down opponents.
Mac can punish super hard but he can also be punished super hard. A true example of an extremely high risk high reward character.
So how do you not make mistakes, be patient. Some characters are not meant to play like everyone else.
Nah, I was also convinced it would be Mario at #1. The rest of them are titles made to make the character sound or look cool/intimidating, or even clever references to the series, but Mario's is just so simple and to the point. Mario IS That Guy. Hes Him. Its so effective, especially the "himself" part cause its basically saying "This man doesnt even NEED an introduction. Yall already know who this is"

It's also the context which makes it work even better. "Mr. Video Game Himself" goes super hard when it's in a video game meant to celebrate as many iconic video game franchises at this point, not even just Nintendo. Like... I'm personally a huge Kirby fanboy and that gives me a strong bias for sure, but I can't really dispute something as absolute as this. 😂

9:03 "Ashen Demon" is a lot more intimidating if you do know the lore actually. Byleth is referred to as the Ashen Demon because of "The way she/he takes the lives of their enemies without any emotion on their face" and that is definitely intimidating

Ok so in Smash 4, the boxing ring titles were different between American English and European English.
I'll always remember Mario's European title, which is "Smashes Bricks with His Fists" because it might literally be the worst possible description for Mario.

Extra fact about Mario's Boxing Ring title: The name "Mr. Video" was actually one of Mario's planned names in Donkey Kong before it was scrapped and changed to Jumpman (and later "Mario" in Donkey Kong Jr.), so his boxing ring title might actually reference that.
For Diddy, I would’ve gone with “Best Little Buddy”. It’s not the most intimidating but it’s a little more creative, as it fits with his role in the DK games 😅

A brief Kirby Lore factoid that makes his fighter name even better. In Star Allies you fight Void Termina as the final boss and in the arena you’ll fight Void as the stronger variant. Void Termina and Dark Matter is what is born if void is born from negative emotions and malice, Kirby is void but pure positivity instead. “The Pink Demon” then works as a reference to a possible outcome where he became a Destroyer of Worlds instead of Destroyer of Cakes.

Byleth's moniker is very intriguing when dissecting. Byleth's very name comes from a demon, yet Byleth in FE is a human being. That, along with the fact that Byleth isn't fond of being referred to as such makes it more interesting.
They're a human being named after a demon, yet their infamousy as a mercenary with them not emoting much made people not want to see them as anything more than a demon.
A very cool yet sad moniker.

In Japan, Erdrick is THE Legendary Hero. Like, if you were to ask any random Japanese person who they thought of when thinking of the title "The Legendary Hero" (伝説の勇者 Densetsu no Yuusha), 8 out of 10 of them will likely say, "the Hero of Dragon Quest III". The reason why the various Links or the other DQ heroes even have titles other than "The Legendary Hero" is because Erdrick monopolizes it: that's how freakin' big Dragon Quest III is over there.
They should have capitalized the THE like you did imo, to get the message across better

The Wiimote Sounds, the Boxing Ring Titles, *these* are the things I love about the Smash Series. Little easter eggs, callbacks or just fun stuff related to everyone's home series. It's not a Crossover if you don't do this at least a couple of times.

I'd honestly say, King Dedede's Title, while not the most intimidating, works well with his character as someone who went from a "king" who basically just gave the title to himself, to someone who his subjects actually admire after the many games of King Dedede's small but nice character arc of being a proper hero.

In the Wii Fit series the female trainer is usually the mascot of the Yoga class of exercises while the male is the mascot of the Strength training, don't know if the titles are references to that, just want to bring it up
Min Min's title may not be the most _creative,_ but it makes the most _sense_ for her. EVERYONE in ARMS got a secondary ring title/nickname (like how Spring Man's is "The Bouncer", Ribbon Girl's is "The Airess", Byte & Barq's is "The Clockwork Cops", Max Brass's is "The Commish", Dr. Coyle's is "The Rad Scientist", etc).
One thing I like about the boxing ring titles for the Mii Fighters is that, as basic and boring as it is, it kinda implies that they're the same 3 people just constantly shifting and changing their faces at will, fun little piece of lore if that's the case

Alph isn't the captain though, he's just the engineer, so that would be pretty stupid too. Alph is just a lame character in general
"Koppaite Captain" doesn't really fit Alph all too well since Charlie is actually the crew's captain while Alph is just the engineer. I think better titles for Alph would be "Engineer of the S.S. Drake" or "Savior of Koppai"

Kirby has actually had the title "The Pink Demon" in previous entries, such as Kirby: Planet Robobot. In fact, with the release dates, it can't be for Forgotten Land, as that game came out long after SSBU. Another one of those "home-series titles" (though a damn good one at that)
Another reason Mewtwo's "A Legend Reawakened" is sick is that Boxing Ring is a Smash 4 stage. Mewtwo came back as DLC in that game, which makes it fit even better.

9:18 Dragovians are human-dragon hybrids, and Eight’s mom is one of them! That makes him a quarter-dragon, which is why he’s my favorite Hero.
It may be thanks to his Dragovian Blood as well that he's one of, if not the ONLY Hero in the Franchise completely Immune to Curses.

Also the reason why Byleth is called the "Ashen Demon" is because they're well known in their games for killing many without a shred of emotion on their faces. It's also pretty cool playing as a protagonist who has an already confirmed mass kill count lol

“Mr. Video Game Himself” is definitely the best title, Mario is recognizable worldwide even by people who don’t play video games and has appeared in more than 200 of them, it’s just so fitting. The title itself is also smug and confident so it goes pretty well with the boxing ring theme.
Fun fact: In Spanish, Docter Mario's title is "Te receta Jarabe de Palo" (It prescribes you Stick Medicine), with the Sufix "de palo" meaning when someone beat the other dude in a fight, but also "Jarabe de Palo" is the name of a Spanish Rock Band

The name “Ashen Demon” for Byleth actually became a lot more well known with the release of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. In Three Houses I think it was mentioned in basically 1 or two support conversations and that’s it, while in Three Hopes that was basically the main way to refer to Byleth. It’s an interesting title to mention since Three Hopes actually only came out in 2022, which is quite a while after Byleth’s DLC release in SSBU

These have always been one of my favorite details in the series. Mario's title has and always will be my favorite. It truly shows how massive Mario is as a character and I love it for that reason.
I don't know why they didn't call Sora "Guardian of Light", since not only It's an actual title of his, but also the conflict between the Guardians of Light and the Seekers of Darkness is the whole point of the Dark Seeker Saga

Diddy Kong: The Jungle Racer
- A reference to Diddy Kong Racing, which also happened to be Banjo's first appearance. It also emphasizes his agility and speed while sounding way flashier than just "The Acrobat".
Doctor Mario: The Painkiller Killer, or The Toughest Pill
- He's here to BRING the pain, not kill it! MUCH more badass than "The Prescriber", although I felt like they were onto something because it feels almost like they were edging toward a WWE name there.
Shiek: Master of Disuise
- Sounds cooler than what they got, plus it's a reference to the reason why Shiek even exists: in Ocarina of Time, Princess Zelda adopted the disguise of Shiek to evade detection from Ganondorf.
King K. Rool: The Kremling Kommander
- WHY DIDN'T THEY USE A K INSTEAD OF A C, IT SHOULD'VE BEEN KOMMANDER, THAT'S ONE OF K. ROOL'S BIG SCHTICKS! *C'MON!*
Banjo & Kazooie: Perfect Sync
- This name is just acknowledging their practically flawless teamwork. They always seem to be on the exact same page for whatever move they're about to do together. Imagine having to do that with someone, even your best friend! You'd probably have a LOT of trouble coordinating attacks together like B&K do!
Pikachu: The Yellow Bolt
- No brainer.
Falco: The Ace of Space
- Similar to what we got, but it sounds almost like Ace of Spades, which makes it cooler imo.
Steve: The Builder of Worlds, or The Landshaper, or The Terraformer
-Any of these makes him sound more grand, plus the Builder of Worlds is a nod to a Terraria boss, the Eater of Worlds.
Pac-Man: The Yellow Chomper
- Just sounds cooler.
Female Wii-Fit Trainer: The Zen Warrior, or Perfect Balance
- Cooler than Yoga Warrior. No other notes.
Bowser: Tyrant Koopa King
- Still keeps the part about him being King of the Koopas, but it has more flair to it with tyrant added, plus it's a reference to what the literal translation of Tyrannosaurus Rex is: Tyrant Lizard King.

imo the fastest thing alive sounds cooler. blue blur is cool but it doesn't describe how fast he is, it makes him sound just quick. fastest thing alive says how fast his superspeed scales I'm comparison to everyone else on the roster. truly makes him sound like he's faster than the speed of sound
