How beautiful!!! My Nana lived in Spearfish canyon for many years. It was a truly spiritual/peaceful time & place for her and for all who came to stay with her. (People heading to the Sturgis Rally always made peace a little more challenging during that time of year 😁 the choppers would echo through the canyon 100x a day) but her peace, never escaped her. While there, she became very close with the Lakota people, and helped to save/uphold their rights/land during that time. She was an amazing woman, and so are the Lakota❣️God bless you, LetreJete!!! 🙏❤️🙏

Better get rid of them through Baptism through His (Catholic) Church and enlighten yourself the difference between living the Bible for entering into Heaven from memorizing the Bible as if it is a textbook for passing an examination for school. @Patrick Montgomery I have had conversations with protestants who talk about Mary the way you do and the demons always talk that way about her in solemn exorcisms.. no difference really. One of the reasons why most protestants stay in error and do not convert to the one true Faith which is Catholicism is because they are under demonic obsession.(anti Catholic sentiment is demonic in nature)
If you knew just a little bit about how wonderful the works of Almighty God are in the soul of his Mother Mary, you would weep for your sinful speech about her.

I have always admired Native Americans partly because of Hollywood. Remember High Chapparel, How the west was won and Centennial. I used to cry watching the scenes as how the govt betrayed the treaties that they signed and how the soldiers were sent to protect the white settlers by killing Indians. It was really sad. I am proud that many embraced Catholicism but as usual the sick protestants will try to lure away catholics to their own incomplete religion. In all these controversies about the sins of Saints, it is important to note that the greatest sinners can become Saints. Look at the thief crucified with Jesus, when he repented at the last minute God welcomed him straight into paradise, he did not stop over in purgatory. God looks only at the heart, men look only at outward signs. God is the best judge of who can be a Saint. Whatever the Holy Father binds on earth is bound in Heaven.

Very great information here. Thank you! If I may add one point ~ would love to share this with my secular friends, and the history is so rich and helpful to know, however, because the modern vernacular has shifted to using "native American" in place of "Indian", I know that this linguistic issue is going to be problematic to many of them receiving the message of the homily.
Just a note/thought, that if next time consideration can be given for the current verbiage (even though I don't agree with it changing all the time), the message may be even more shareable. Thank you again for the great and timely content!

Kateri's original birthplace called Ossernennon which is also the North American Martyrs was attached by French soldiers as part of a campaign to stop Iroquois raids on Algonquin converts and French traders. This happened but the Mohawks regularly raided the praying town Kateri's mother was from and finally burned to the ground. The French commander DeLacey brought cannon into the field which lead to the Iroquois negotiating a peace settlement.

Kateri did not flee because her family had picked a husband for her. It did happen that her aunts did try to get her to marry but when it came time for the actual ceremony which prior to Catholicism included a meal, Kateri fled to the woods and did not return until much later. Her family was very puzzled by this behavior and gave up trying to encourage her to marry well before she left for Kahnawake. We Mohawks have not practiced arranged marriage in the way Europeans view it. Clan mothers would watch young people and make suggestions, even setting people up as we say today. But either going person was free to refuse the suggestion.

You might check into Catholic books on Amazon, specifically on the saints, or perhaps a bookstore where they have a catalog for ordering books through the store. But I would suggest a large library to see what's available, then look at Amazon. If you have access to a Catholic bookstore which carries strictly Catholic books, that would be the best. Look up Butler's Lives of the Saints - the older the edition the better - like back to before the 1950s or more. The newer editions are edited, shortened, and many saints removed [the newer editions date the feast days according to the new calendar however]. Also the newer editions discount many of the stories as "legends" or "unprovable" etc which challenges the Faith and trust in these holy intercessors. All saints and their lives give great encouragement to us and models of how to live. Best kind of daily reading you can do! So much more hope-giving than our current events and depressing daily news.

Great overview on St. Kateri Tekakwitha! I usually fully enjoy your content here on this channel as it has a real traditionalist perspective on our religion (not a fan of the overly left direction some bishops have been taking their parishes which is chilling), but I think the priest here could have minimized the use of the word "savage" a bit. I understand there was historical context to this but don't think it added to the story at all. Keep up the great work.

Love this but at 9:40, our English word "savage" comes, i thought, from the French word "sauvage" -- which means "close to nature/the natural" -- i hope this nuance goes along w/yr talk, bcuz that is how i come sharing it. ☮️🙏🕊️ ( Sorry to be years late to the party 😅)

Kateri did not walk all the way to Kahnawake which was a mission for Catholic Indians. She was smuggled out of her town by a brother-in-law and friend while her uncle was away trading at Ft. Orange. The initially took a canoe east about 30 miles. Then from the spot where they disembarked it is about 100 miles due north to the mission.

All those residential schools were great. And they were never abused or had their lands taken from them, right😉

Tekakwitha means She pushes things. It can imply a person does not see well but it also implies a person who puts things in their proper place. This was not her name when she was born. We do not know what that name was. This was the name given to her after she survived the small pox epidemic.

Kateri was home not working the fields with the other women because she had injured her foot the previous day when Fr. Lallemont first spoke to her about Catholicism. Up to that point she had not attended any catechism classes out of obedience to her uncle who forbade his family to interact with the Jesuit.

Kateri's mother was a prisoner of war. This warfare characterized by quick raids was a common occurrence between the Algonquin Confederation and the Iroquois Confederacy of which the Mohawk were. Kateri's mother was adopted by another family and was the usual custom so that she would be a citizen of the Mohawk Nation. There is no evidence to support the claim that she was forced to marry Kateri's father.

Kateri was not able to be baptized because her uncle opposed it and no one would sponsor her until another Mohawk missionary of high status pressed her uncle to allow it.
