I've studied dozens of your videos and appreciate all the knowledge you have provided. unfortunately, I didn't find your channel in time to purchase equipment you recommended, but I was able to use your techniques with great results. Hey Chris, best of your videos on cutting in. I am a homeowner and have painted a lot of stuff in my many years and figured some of this out on my own, but you put it all in one great video. I hold my breath too...! I hate taping and it takes so much extra time as well, best to take your time on cut in's and you actually save time and frustration. And you are right on in using the right brush, that I have not always done so will pay attention next time. Thanks from all of us home owners out here!

I am also a paining contractor and spend a lot of time training new guys and gals how to cut in ceilings. I do use the tips you suggested as well as another mental trick. I tell them to repeat in their head the word "downhill" while cutting the line. Believe it or not it does work in keeping them from bumping the ceiling. Try it, it doesn't cost anything.

I just paint around my house, but like everything I do, I research it for hours on youtube before hand. I have to say that you have the best, most practical, and confidence inspiring painting videos! You have helped me out as I am moving from one room to the next doing paint and floors. One thing that kind of makes me chuckle when I watch your videos is your emphasis on accentuating the last syllable in many of your words. Not picking on you by any means, I just picture I am listening to an intelligent Northern version of Forrest Gump lol. Once again, I stress that I am not in any way making fun of you, it is just rare to hear stress on last syllables lol. Keep up the good videos so us amateurs have resources to do the job right!

Zowiee, over a MILLION views! I know you went to a three inch brush, so I tried that and it works better. A larger brush, which is heavier, and for me is easier to control and not as squirmy. I use a Purdy Clear Cut and usually use Benjamin Moore paints. I also use a head lamp so I can see very clearly into the corner. I just makes it easier for me. I am not a professional, but for some reason I do a lot of painting and show others how to paint. Thanks again Chris.

Thanks for all the great videos. Although I have been painting for years I enjoy watching others techniques. Never too old or too good to learn something new.
Holding your breath is a great tip but if I can expand on that a little for the beginners. Exhale first then hold your breath. Your body is more relaxed after an exhale and you will be much more steady. Actually pulling this technique of exhaling from rifle markmenship. the exhale technique has worked for me for years anytime I need a steady hand.
Obviously you can only remain relaxed for a few seconds but it is more than enough time to pull a laser straight line with a brush for about a foot. Just far enough that you will need to reload your brush. As demonstrated in the video, work the brush up to the cieling and just before you start dragging the line exhale. Don't force all the air out of your lungs just a natural exhale.
Don't forget to breath again when reloading! 😉

Thanks. I still suck at this but using the correct stiffness of brush helped. You make it look so damn easy lol

It's nice to watch videos on everything that I already taught myself from the many years of mistakes. Lol wish CZcams was around a long time ago. Thanks for these videos my husband and I have watched them all.
I do have one question though.. Why do painters wear white clothes? 😬

@@louishollandjr I find that sort of silly. A painter is bound to get covered in paint over time...

Great job on all your videos man. I've been painting walls for years with 'meh' results. Can't wait to try out some of your cutting techniques. Thanks !

Love the vid! You're very detailed in your explanations. I work with a crew doing high end, custom jobs but am relatively new to painting. Boss man says "painting is easy till you know how!" Anyways I noticed on other cutting I'm videos people don't "cut into your wet," like you did and I was also taught to do.'appreciate the tips on the brush in regards to the type of product being used also. Btw: subscribed and liked ! Will definitely be tuning in. Great, elaborative tutorial! I switched over from corporate to the painting profession! Wish I had done it a long time ago and plan on doing it for the long run!

***** I do! If I'm doing a lot of cut ins for a few hours I'll get tired and need a cup of tea. Mind you, I'm British so tea is nearly as important as oxygen. :-)
