There were a lot of questions about Manor Lord's combat - this video should put most of those to rest. I was outnumbered 2 to 1 in this massive 600+ man battle! - Hry
Actually insane how one dude managed to be more creative than companies worth millions of dollars.
I agree - you can tell the game isn't finished, but what he did put in the game is REALLY good
@@Strat-Guides I can't wait to play the game. Seeing this shows how concepts and creativity are more important than anything in strategy games. Thanks for the video
Companies worth millions of dollars are extremely risk-averse, so they're just going to play it safe by directly copying what the current trends are.
Though with the glacial pace of giant companies it's more like copying what the trends were 5 years ago.
Yep, this game's story always reminds me on a similar success story a few years back: Banished. Same way, 1 guy made it all alone, to this day without publisher and it was a huge hit.
@@matthewgagnon9426yeah play safe tell that to the hyenas
It‘s like the old times, when you play a game and you actually can feel the developer did put a lot of heart in it.
Yes, exactly!!
And during all the years of open development Slavic Magic interacted with the community to make the game better, which is awesome to see.
Lets just hope he never loses his will to make it EVEN BETTER !
I don't think is fair to say devs don't care when almost everything wrong with modern gaming is outside their control.
This is so true, most games are made to be either
1: Super Competitive and filled with paywalls
or
2: Eye Candy with boring/grindy gameplay.
This game however, looks actually FUN.
Battles are already further developed than I expected. Incredible what Slavic is doing. Hopefully cavalry will be added to the game in the first couple of months of EA release. Once Slavic adds enemy AI settlements to the map things will get very interesting. But before he can do that he needs to further develop the city building.
I was pretty shocked to see the AI react to my movements and respond with some semblance of tactics (like skirmishing archers and flanking with melee troops)
Cavalry is definitely intended to be in game and has already been worked on. We saw some early testing footage of cavalry in game, not yet smoothly animated but functional. So those units are definitely in the testing phase before implementation.
You gave me a slight heart attack with the EA, before I realized you mean Early Access.
Yeah I was starting to think that calvary was gonna be a dlc😅
The fact that many of the units are actual citizens gives the combat an extra layer. Games with similar combat like Total War, I would just sacrifice troops as long as I had I slimmer of chance of winning. But here, sometimes it might be better to retreat when being the aggressor, in order to save citizens for when getting back to one's own settlement
Yeah I'll often use my Retinue first because I can replace them with cash, but peasants going down could disrupt my supply chain and cause a death-spiral if not fixed quickly
@@Strat-Guides guess you don't often use mercenaries? cause those sound like "use/sacrifice them first, then retinue second", as they're paid in gold and not permanently kept after the battle is over (unless you want to bancrupt yourself)
@@Heroesflorian if I recall I only had Archer mercenaries here, which are much better used shooting arrows then being a meat shield. My next video shows how I got the achievement using only mercenary units to beat the game, so I actually do have experience using them
@@Strat-Guides ah, I see... well, yeah, archers are a thing of their own I guess :D Thanks for the insight!
Btw, as I haven't played the game myself yet: Do those have limited or unlimited ammo?
Soldiers in total war are raised from your province population too….
Manor Lords... my beloved
Billios, my beloved we shall soon have our hands around it !!!
Buy it and put a ring on it
This game maked one man!!!
Knowing that CA will never make a Medieval 3, this game is the light in the darkness. Can't wait to get my hands on it!
I don't know if you've seen his video but according to Legend, they actually do have Medieval 3 planned. But we can expect it to not be soon since they seem to have 2-3 Total War games planned before it. At least it's planned unlike HL3.
I wanna see first person options, Bannerlord with top down building options! The ultimate 🤣
@@cheat200 After Warhammer 1 Total War games became extremely boring to me.
Same. I need medieval warfare and total war gameplay but I can't expect CA to do anything at all.
@@cheat200i would not get invested, they will mess it up and just keep on making the same old ever regressing game they been making for the last 15 years. the total war series is dead.
The real-time battles are a huge departure from Total war and Bannerlord. Later when the game is more developed, imagine an ally fighting a losing battle. Your army will take too long to arrive, but you can send your cavalry ahead to buy time!
It's really interesting to have to muster troops from individual towns and meet up to march to battle. It's such a different feeling from all the other games and it feels much more realistic (standing armies wasn't really a thing for a long time from what I understand).
@@Strat-Guides agreed. Realism = fun if done correctly. Is your full playthrough on your long form channel?
@@jacksteele3028 yup I included a link in the description to that video and it's also at the very end of this video as a clickable link!
@@Strat-Guides Standing Armies depends. Kings Guards/Retinue was often always standing, in the case of... Henry VIII (I think, it could've been an earlier Henry) he had to give a year's notice to any village he was going to visit with his personal army, because of how much food they'd eat.
But most Standing Armies disappeared from Europe after the Roman Empire's collapse, but you start to see them re-emerge during the Mid-Reconquista in Spain, and The Hussite Wars. The Christian Military Orders are another good example too, from the Teutonic and Livonian to the Hospitallers.
@@Strat-GuidesI feel like if you have realism you need to be able to properly train and people have personalities.
Combat looks stellar! Slavic did such a great job
So far I've been having a great time! I'm about 40 hours in and still looking forward to loading it up again so that's a good sign :)
@@Strat-Guides I'm stoked that you get to play this early! I've been waiting since July 2020, I have a week booked off work just to play 😊
@@Strat-Guides Great video! Also i think there is an attack stance for a charge attack that might have helped routing those pesky archers faster!
As much as I would play this game for battles like this I would be tore up about casualties after knowing each dude on the battlefield funding all of the equipment. I really like the stakes at hand for each battle. This game is sick 🤘
I think this is the major aspect of the game. The fundamental portrait between expansionism and city growth; total war and paradox games always emphasized one, but lacked the other. So eager to test it out!
Yeah it was painful losing most of the male adults from each town AND all of their gear that I had to pay for or craft by hand :(
you can't pick up gear from the battlefield after winning? guess that will come later or its game unbalancing...
cause loosing peasants to war is heavy
@@mnm8818i dunno about you buy I wouldn’t want to be equipped with armor that is more then likely pierced from some type of blow
@@mailc3p477 Common sense dictates its better than no armor at all, and if brought back, can be much more rapidly repaired or recycled than building a completely new set ya know?
The unit card art is a really nice touch.
right on point 👌
bro this is why i love small studios they are not controlled by a greedy OVERLORD who is giving them 1 day to release a game at a insane price point im so excited to enjoy this content and support our boy slav
I think I'm going to give this game a try, remembered seeing it about 1 year ago and it has come a long way since then.
It's similar to how the demo ran, but I can tell he changed a few things and it feels much more polished. The combat is much better than I was expecting it to be (my expectations were very low though lol)
The Creativity this dev has Assembled here is incredible. One guy producing something more refreshing than an entire Ensemble of Studios is a bit of a Paradox. I hope in time this game leaves lazy strategy franchises simply as Relics of Entertainment.
I see what you did there lol
Really cool to see such a huge battle. You are wayyy further in than me!
Hey Resonant! Yeah I've been working hard to learn everything about this one :) I've got 2 more achievements to get 100% but the learning curve is pretty steep on this one so it's been a challenge
I am SO hyped for this game. Even just the town management stuff alone was incredible with the previous demo.
The city building is even better than it was in the demo! They tweaked a few things and I think it makes the experience much smoother.
Good to see you trying this game out too!
It's so good!
I've waited my entire life for this game. This is the game I wanted back when I was playing the original AoE and Tzar, then when the original Medieval total war was released it was getting closer to what I wanted. After all these years it has finally come. I can't wait to see how it continues to develop and I'm sure I will play it for years. The fact it even exists is a gift to the the strategy gaming world and I hope it's inevitable success will create a proliferation of this style of rts in the future. Well done and thank you to the developer . I can't wait.
Yes!! I’ve been waiting for this game since it was a whisper on Reddit. So excited to finally play it. Yes it’s early access, but as someone who loves both Stronghold and Banished… this game is something I’ve been waiting for for a long time.
The early access in this is actually really fun! It's probably 50% done, but it's definitely playable as it stands.
Same I thought it would have a wider concept of being able to attack other city or something I don’t think this feature will be implemented any time soon because creating this is like changing the game and much more effort
ive been following this game for years! so glad to see u do a video on it.
It's so fun so far!
Can’t wait to see how a cavalry charge could rattle the enemy formations. The footman charging looks great
Amazing how one person created all this, passion is the best energy fuel.
I would love multiplayer/co-op here. Imagine having u and 3 other friends start on each corner of the map trying to conquer each other, with no pausing or fast forwarding could spend like a month
This is the game I am most looking forward to this year. It has a hype about it that I have not felt since talking about the release of Bannerlord, but I think this one will immediately deliver.
what a battle! nicely done.
one of my most anticipated games
Thanks for watching!
Love that you did a video on this. Been waiting for years and I cant believe it's coming out in two weeks
It's almost here!
Small wars like this was quite normal for the time, most "wars" were often between lords who had a beef over each others land claims.
Good point! It's nice to take a step down and focus on the more common experiences
This is legit insane. I was expecting disappointment with the combat, but it seems really well made.
Been waiting for this game for like 1 and a half years now, great to see you play it cant wait for the release
It's not fully done yet, there's certainly enough here for 100+ hours of fun IMO
lol single handedly destroying bannerlord, total war and city builder games at the same time
This game is not even the same genre as Bannerlord or Total War. What drugs are you doing?
@@vojtik135 Yea. I mean there is potential for this dev and his team to move into the TW genre. To present real competition to CA and Sega, maybe with a Manor Lords 2, or a project that is similar in nature but larger in scope with more emphasis on combat.
However, this game has nothing to do with Bannerlord. Two totally different things.
This game is going to be awesome, but if you're a TW guy, this isn't gonna scratch that itch. I'm very excited by what this dev and his team might do next with the resources they get from Manor Lords though.
The game just needs cavalry and it's a masterpiece
Yeah that would be amazing! You have to pay for each horse your town uses (for now only traders use them for logistics), but it would be cool to have to outfit each one with a horse. They're very expensive to buy too, so you can't just spam them
@@Strat-Guides I don't mean a full cavalry army since that's really unrealistic for a village, but a small retinue to chase archers and stragglers off
@@CsStoker cavalries are in the trailer and with huge numbers
One developer, extremely well done. This is amazing!
Is that kingdom come music? Dope.
Hell yeah! The music in Manor Lords is good, but when I think Medieval theme I think KCD :)
Hey anyways In case you didn't know WARHORSE is going to announce their next game on april 18th:))) probably KCD's sequel?
@@HushedBlade super excited I put 150 hours in kcd and still didn't do everything
I knew it! I thought I was tryping out dude, glad im not the only one who noticed
Thank you for this. So many other youtubers are or have been hyping this game into the stratosphere with over promising what the dev has said/shown for clicks
Yeah man if I see another "THIS GAME CHANGES EVERYTHING" or "Everything you need to know before release" video I'm gonna lose my @#$% lol It's so annoying, but I get their side. Everyone's just trying to earn a living. I just wish they didn't waste everyone's time with the BS clickbait to do it. I try my best to never clickbait (although sometimes I go into the grey area lol)
@@Strat-Guides the one that got to me was resonates thumbnail recently on manor lords that said "A NEW ERA"
I love the canopy clearing effect the cursor has so you can actually see units when they're in the woods.
woah this game is actually starting to look good. Didn't have high hopes for this after trying the first demo.
Oh awesome im glad youre going to be playing this, most channels ive seen with this pop up have not been youtubers i care to watch for various reasons. Im glad to know ill be able to watch manor lords content 😂 (please dont stop with bannerlord tho)
Yeah I'll be doing lots of guides and challenge runs for this game :) Bannerlord will probably continue for several years as I still have fun challenge ideas and mods that I need to explore!
I've never heard of this, but that battle/campaign map looks amazing
It's really fun! Early access opens up on the 24th I believe
@@Strat-Guides26th
oh dang, I forgot about this game. been on my wishlist forever. loooooking so good.
The troops' voice lines remind me of Rome: Total War so much
ROORAAARIE !
This a game i have always wanted, total war battles with city management levels! Can’t wait until it comes out officially.
It's really well thought-out too, I'm sure you'll love it!
I CAN NOT WAIT!
I NEED THIS NEOW!!!!
JUST TAKE MY MONEY ALREADY
Lol totally agree - TAKE ALL OUR MONIES
I can't believe its out this month. I've been waiting for literal years
I noticed a cool detail at 16:32. When you choose your milita archers unit card they respond with normal voice but when you choose the knights they speak with muffled voices cause they have helmets with visors on lol
Interesting, I didn't notice that! I love it when games pay attention to the small details for immersion :)
Total war execs: He made this in a cave! Out of scraps!
"Is this Medieval 3???" -Title youtube video of CA shills
its actually insane that one guy can make a gerat game like this and multi million dollar game companies fail to even listen to what their players want.
I really hope they make singular soldier experience very important/useful at higher levels. Would be awesome to have a few guys in your retinue that you bond with
I just love how you can choose your battle ground live
There are few strange mechanics/options, but by watching it, I feeled that vibe you get on huge reenactment battles (as participant) and I am really excited about this game becasue I never had seen in game battle being so realistic and immersive...
I NEED THIS GAME, It is my third year of waiting for it and last month is really hard XD
Only 2 more weeks - hang in there!!
Shocked really how well the battles are playing out. Looks organic and felt real. Amazing what the developer has done! Cannot wait!
i refuse to watch anything you put up until i get my hands on it im genuinely too excited i will binge every second then be wondering where the rest is
I totally understand!
I can already see myself sinking some hours in this gane, im so excited.
wow this looks actually competent, i expected alot more bad ai and jank
Yeah the AI was pretty good! Even the raiders will move around and reposition in the woods before they raid.
The music sounds so similar to Kingdom Come: Deliverance and I LOVE IT !
This is actually the KCD sound track - good ear! The Manor Lords music is good, but nobody can compete with KCD in my opinion
@@Strat-Guides I knew it! The moment I heard these couple notes in the beginning.
@@Strat-Guides Ah, lol, 😂
Its actually insane a single person did all this. Wow.
Hope he gets all the support under the Sun. Imagine when you can become a higher ranking Lord so that you could get Knights under you.
I hope this game becomes a staple in the industry. Its such a breath of fresh air.
Can't believe this game was made by one Polish developer 😍
If you can't tell who is winning, you're losing
- Sun Tze (probably)
Well, it's confirmed, we gonna need some cav added in this game.
For sure - I wonder if that's planned or not?
@@Strat-Guidescavalry, early guns and siege/fortification.
Honestly looks like the game i’ve been waiting for since 1989 😂❤
Nice. Ive been burned out on banner lord for a while now. Im absolutely pumped to be playing another game with Strat videos!
Sure I’m up for another great video
I thought for sure their archers would chase yoirs right into your melee line. I hiess my expectations are low from past trash AI. Well done, AI! This bodes well for the game!
Yeah I was thinking the same! The AI here is better than Bannerlord's at least lol they do try to flank, skirmish and load up on one side.
Very good to see that (unlike archers in TW) archers can't just skirmish to the ends of the map when facing melee troops
"I cant tell who is winning." Nice, some chaos and uncertainty to make it even more interesting. I feel like not having a statistic for every single thing going on in battle can actually be pretty healthy for the immersion.
So this is why Creative Assembly didn't make Medieval 3 Total War. They didn't want to compete with this single indie developer.
LOL so true! Imagine if a company with legit funding worked on a project like this? Pretty sad how money and ignorant CEO's/managers ruined the gaming industry. I'm really happy for these small dev teams though. I hope this dude becomes a multi-millionaire instantly from this and never has to worry about cash again (so he can focus on his passion)
1 view in 30 secs fell off hard
Lol I like this trend - glad to see it on this channel too :D
@@Strat-Guides Jus noticed that 1 view was me
@@Borgolii haha nice, you're first!
'With the enemy retinue broken, it was all over bar the grieving. All that remained was to bayonet the wounded, then it was back to the tavern for ale and to mourn our dead'.
That was a rather long and complicated battle, definitely Not what I woulda expected from a City Builder, it was much better, Good Job. :)
This looks amazing, I was aware of this game but now its a must buy. Battles feel authentic.
The city building and management is amazing too
Its amazing seeing how BIG the fights are let alone the base building is so well designed (minus some bugs and a few things needed tweeked) its amazing this was created by ONE guy it shows rhat passion and dedication is beating these "AAA" games that do it for money and making that Quarterly payouts. Excited to see the future of this game.
Creative Assembly is done, the Dev of Manor Lords has already delivered what I would want from a Medieval 3.
I played the Demo when it was free so this will be an instant purchase.
Oh man, I've been looking forward to this game for a long time, put it in the back of my brain and kind of forgot about it. It's coming out soon too! Hotdog! Would love to hear your thoughts on it and some of that A+ content you do, on it. Thanks for posting this video/reminding me of it. Great stuff!
I played the demo when it came out over a year ago and it's definitely gotten better! It's still not finished, maybe 50% or so, BUT the content that is here is really fun. I'll be making guides, let's plays and challenge videos for this game :)
Holy fuck I knew this game was gonna look good but this is even cooler then I expected.
This really is a TW killer. The only thing “missing” that TW has is sheer number of units represented in the battle, which could be addressed in the future and, honestly, is the least important thing for lots of gamers when you get so much more from what ML is offering. It is so awesome that one guy made this.
I've been screaming "get your archers involved" 😂😂😂
Lol It was a looong day that day :P
I cant believe this game is made by one person. So overwhelming
That looks sick! cant wait
Hopefully we see videos about this on the channel. This looks great
I was so hyped for this for over a year. Then the dev says it's mainly a SimCity with combat sprinkled in here and there
The combat isn't as often, but when it does happen - it feels much more impactful. It's definitely not like TW though
I need to buy this just to support the king who developed it. Wow. Amazing.
I kind of wish the game was a bit brighter and vibrant looking. It's hard to tell who's who in closeup battles.
Can't help but agree, this game is special. Full of soul and an obvious passion project refined to a masterpiece. 💞✌😊👍
I haven’t been this hyped for a game since KingdomCome Deliverance. I’m glad it seems like it will live up to the hype. Unless this has just been a marketing thing, it looks like the combat will be a bigger part of the game then they originally said it would be.
Warhorse doing a reveal soon for their new game, hope its KCD2 lol
Awesome to see fairly large battles are not only possible but functional in this game! Really hope slavic focuses on city building first and the battles econd though, eveything in its time.
Love how the troops actually feel like they have weight behind them unline in modern total war
Yeah the command to push harder or to give ground and fall back slowly are really nice. It opens up a ton of tactical possibilities
There might be a game mechanic where being in the trees reduces arrow effectiveness like in Total war games. Would definitely be worth testing.
Omg this game looks amazing! It really scratches that itch for resource management, strategy, and medieval warfare. It feels like Age of Empires and Anno had a baby with Mount and Blade that was better than any of them alone lol. I really hope they add the ability to join in on the battle like in Mount and Blade. That would really set this game apart and possibly make it the best in its class for years to come. Amazing what has been done before final release.
This game is like a childhood dream come true.
That's already amazing to see such big battles in a EA state... And there will be more units to come as well.
This game is going to be like stronghold and total war hybrid.
It's like settlers, banished and total war combined. Wet dream come true
I'm a history nerd and those longbow volleys always give me goosebumps loving this game
Oh yeah...this actually looks pretty fun! 👍
Wish it was more like Bannerlord for combat. The village system is great but it needs that gritty combat
This game has a lot of potential to explore new concepts for strategy games. I would love to see a game that could introduce the need for supply lines / baggage train for armies on the move .. or military camps .. - The engineering and positioning during campaigns is something very overlooked/simplified in games.
the chasing fleeing units around a battle field will get dull quickly but other than that looks amazing.
This is insane im going to love this game
MAN, this looks SO good... let me PLAY ALREADY!!!
Hope this game becomes big so we can enjoy more of it
Can't wait to play this
Really liking how this game is looking.
THIS GAME IS GORGEOUS.
