I saw Brecker and co. play this at Jazz Alley in Seattle, probably around this time, and it forever changed my life. I walked into that show an awkward kid with a mild interest in jazz and walked out a JAZZ FANATIC, which has lasted me pretty much up until this point. I had no idea the music could be that exciting. Michael Brecker is still missed, I'm glad this recording is still available, and too bad it's incomplete.
Michael Brecker effectively makes this piece his very own which is no easy feat and equally speaks to his mastery of his instrument and understanding of the music. He will be sorely missed
Michael deserved every piece of recognition he got, and then some. Even if I slide under the radar completely, I will not care if I can play half as well as he could before I die. If someone lives on through their music, this is one hell of a way to live on
EL SAXOFONISTA MICHAEL BRECKER ES UNO DE MIS MUSICOS FAVORITOS SOBRE TODO ESTA OBRA MUSICAL "SONG FOR BILBAO" ATENTAMENTE GERONIMO RODRIGUEZ RAMIREZ MUCHAS GRACIAS.
This video is amazing, no doubt about it. Some time ago I saw a video in wich Ralph played with Geri Allen and a counterbass songs like "Bemsha swing", "A child is born", etc...I wish someone uploaded it again.
We have now several versions of this song featuring the great Michael Brecker. And a chance to compare drummers, from Ralph Peterson to Ralph Penland, going through Antonio Sanchez and Jack DeJohnette. There are drummers for all tastes. But only one Michael Brecker!
RP usually goes over the board. Too busy, too loud. However, he is the drummer of choice of several leaders, and he leads his own "Fo'tet". I think there is a reason behind this. Don't you?
check out the michael brecker models of Guardala. Thats his mp, or try a peter ponzol or jody jazz. They are all really pricey. I think SR Technologies also has a very similar mouthpiece, but again expensive loud mouthpieces :D

RALPH PETERSON, RALPH PETERSON, RALPH PETERSON, AD INFINITUM.
In this recording he used a custom-made Dave Guardala, but he also used Otto Link (early days, eg. 70s) and Dukoff (early 80s).
Dude this video is incredible! please post the rest
