Why do people always have to choose someone to be the absolute greatest?
If a person can not accept the known God, he creates and chooses his own substitute god ... according to his taste, according to his ideas.
Pat is a very good musician and, above all, he had the luck of a great career ... also because of his willpower and extroversion.
Bill Evans, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Hermeto Pascoal ... are highest level.

The coolest thing of all is he's holding the straight 4 count on cowbell the whole time, and everything is in perfect sync.

Yes, I miss Freddie, MJ, Bowie, Prince, and Whitney, but no one else's music plays in the background in my head on the daily. 5 exceptionally brilliant solos, each a completely unique approach. Lyle’s full of harmonic twists, Cuong Vu creamy boppiness, Bona joyous personal expression, Sanchez superhuman pulse and rhythmic strength, and then my favourite Pat solo on CZcams - pure melodic impulse, ripping through the tune. When he pushes the gr300 up an octave I get chills.

    Wow, blown away!
Long time Matheny and Mays fan, but something magic happened this time lol
I got it... it "grabbed" me, and I realized just how amazingly good this performance is!
Each artist is tapped in and play as if they're in each other's heads... seamlessly.
Music this good is on a whole different level- it really is art.
The synthesizer effect on guitar- classic Pat Matheny! The chorus doubled by the trumpet, and voice layer of Bona.. back to Wow!
The keyboard solo going from piano to synth magically in the middle of chords.
How about the band cues on the drum solo- another level! Tight, but loose... loosely tight.
The George Benson-like scatting on bass!
Great use of volume dynamics. Is that the artists, soundman, or both?
A big shout out to the camera man also, who obviously knows the music. That makes or breaks a video. Excellent job!
Jazz fusion is not enough to describe music this intelligent, and entertainingly good!?
    Thank you for posting.
Thank you Pat Matheny Group for all the wonderful, artistic music over the years.

It's like "DAME" this is a rare gift that I've given myself. Every glance and every view of the countryside is a celebration of discovering simply what's under a sun that sheds a thousand hues of light on the basics. I mean bass player goes OFF the control chart if there ever was such a thing. Drive everyone into amazement. The drummer kicks ass. Flam paradiddles are not easy strokes on one tube muchless three or four. As JZ says in response to one of his own drummer's solos "that shit ain't easy". The whole of paradise of the country landscape that Bilboa creates is untouchable. And then Pat goes wild as Richard sings through an interpretation that no one will every forget. One helluva excursion off the beaten path in the meadow untouched

I don’t think “guitarist” first when I think of Pat Metheny. He is a musician first and a wizard at that, as he transcends his instrument completely. His improvisational ideas do not depend on the conveniences or the idiosyncrasies of the guitar. His improvisation is freedom. Whatever comes to mind he can play as if all he is using as an instrument are his brain, ears, heart and spirit. His sharing this with us is an uplifting gift.

Trumpet and Pat Matheny's synthesized guitar sound different. Trumpet is a live brass instrument, guitar is a picking instrument though passing through a trumpet voice.

Станислав Вайкерт these days you have no idea “what’s playing what”
Buy a Roli and see what they are doing.... Pat could have EASILY been a Trumpet patch that has been created lately
AWESOME he still plays the Roland
Patch that he makes famous, HE USED TO BRING OUT AN UNBELIEVABLE “CHIME” SOUND “LIVE”..... as the ENTIRE AUDIENCE GASPED!!!
Pat has been an “Audio Inventor” since hooking up with Lexicon (TimeLine, Primetime, PCM 41, PCM 42) Synclavier, not to say the BRILLIANT MUSICIANS THAT SIT NEXT TO HIM!!

I hate having to justify a comment to half wits, but seeing as you asked...
Rodby looked up at Bona cause he just played a fucking killer solo and that's what musicians do, we celebrate each other's talents and victories.
Btw give me one link that shows Rodby to be the better soloist!

One of the greatest piano players out there, incredible human being, Lyle Mays is by far one my favorite acoustic piano players. Kudos to Pat as always - none other than the greatest guitar player that ever lived so I won't say anything about Pat even though I just did. We need PMG back at least before this whole thing comes to a close! Oh, check out Richard on the bass, (Richard Bona) simply mesmerizing! Oh, and BTW, the drummer (Antonio Sanchez) is Latino and from Mexico, nice mix!

Lyle Mays is the most avant garde, Bill Evanish, McCoy Tynerish swining pianist on the scene. He and Metheny are simpatico and his sound is absolutely refreshing, and he romances the sheer hell out of Metheny's trumpet sounding guitar riffs. Study Metheny, he played horn before the guitar and his whole sound is like a slow, long, blow when he's hooked up to the synclavier...simply divine. Yessss I am a fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
